    Germany is out ...

    Germany played at this tournament a slow, predictable football. They couldn't surprise not even the small team of Latvia about no one could say that wasn't an team to beat.

    The crisis of the german national squad was obvious long before the start of the competition in Portugal and in their frienly matches were observed a series of failures:
    15 November 2003
    -> France won 3-0 a friendly played in Germany;
    28 April 2004-> they lost 1-5 against Romania, in Bucharest, when the romanians used their reserves;
    06 June 2004-> Hungary defetead them 2-0, in Germany;

    Even before those friendlies were the qualification matches when coach Völler had the same problems: the team didn't played anything, the wins were narrow and often obtained after a serious struggle against modest adversaries that were embarassing them in almost every match.

    The problems of the team are quite easy to identify:
    :arrow: 1) the strikers need many occassion before they score goals;
    :arrow: 2) Ballack isn't initiating dangerous attacking actions in the final third of the pitch;
    :arrow: 3) when the ball is in the possesion of the midfielders they rarely give good passes for the strikers;
    :arrow: 4) overall the team's play isn't combinative at all and as a result they can hardly surprise any opponent;
    :arrow: 5) the coach has his fault in this situation as he had plenty of time to solve at least some of the problems but didn't:
    -> he keept Ballack on the pitch even he didn't deserved it;
    -> didn't gave Schweinsteiger a chance earlier as playmaker;
    -> Fredi Bobic is getting older and slower;
    -> Klose can't play any ball that is down in the grass;
    -> Kuranyi is out of form;

    Above all the team is playing in a 4-4-2 offensive formula but the players don't show their full potential!

    Do you think that Sweden would eliminated them in case the germans were qualified?

      I made 3 attempts to enter Germany but the software didn't worked ... now it had taken it and everything is alright. Strange thing ... just like Germany's play at this EURO 2004 :twisted:

          Spot on, GlobalR2R, but I will just say it's easy to be the general after the battle...
          I agree, it was a bad overall performance by Germany on this tournament, but I expect nothing more than a championship team in WC 2006.

            What an useless thread. Germans could have played with full defensive for a 0:0 and would have won in the penaltykicks.

                Why nobody begins a thread on why Latvia/Switzerland/Croatia/etc. are out ? Is this one any more interesting than the above-mentioned ?
