I'm hoping for Belgium vs Croatia final, if they dont meet each other before. Fingers crossed.

Keep hoping... Sounds like a real long shot to me. Two nations that have never been a final. Maybe a game for 3rd place if they both exceed expectations.

We were third once before. We can make it this time.

Agree with Wiserthanthecrowed i simply think Belgium will have big problems on this side where they need to eliminate two good teams to go to the finales.. they were not tasted yet in group stage so i think this hayp about Belgium is probable too much. They are good team but i think not ready to go all the way . I give Croatia more cheance to reach finales then Belgium.

I also give more chances to Croatia but only because of the path. Belgium for me is much better than Croatia, way more solid, more talented, more deep. Its not a hype about them, they are becoming elite team imo and yes they werent tested enough with that easy group but they really impressed. I think they will not have any issues with Nippon. Too much quality difference. I thought asians are smarter than this but resting their regulars and almost being eliminated by fair play rule, imo is just dumb. Their defending is naive and they can look like a good team going forward but they actually had an easy group and im not really sure they were really tested either, when it mattered the most, they almost failed. Its not a bad team but if Belgium wont mug around this can really end badly for asians. Belgium -1.5 for me.

This one is a no-brainer imho. Belgium -1,5 can only be under ? if Japan takes the early lead somehow. In all other scenarios this should be like vs Panama or Tunisia. For Japan didn't work out putting 5 at back vs Poland when defending. Belgium has great potential, very fluid game play, leads the tournament in goals scored, goal difference and goals from open play. They are fresh, fielding a B team vs England while Japan didn't manage to take a draw at least in a match that meant so much to them with 1st team. Don't think that Belgium will mug around after 1-0 defending it, it's not their style. Also i think that Japan lost last 5 against European teams, correct me if i'm wrong. Adding to that physical dominance from Lukaku in the air or duel, this is one way street for me.

Yes, I like Belgium -1.5 here at odds of above 2. Belgium are the one team that keep on attacking once they are in the lead. Belgium so far are perhaps THE surprise team of the tournament together with Croatia. This is a high-scoring outfit with a lot of attacking flair. And Japan? In my opinion, by far the weakest side in the R16. Japan are a team in transition that just got lucky so far. They won their game against Colombia because the Colombians were playing with 10 men from the 3rd minute. Nonetheless Colombia still put up a good fight and would have deserved a draw... Japan got lucky again when they beat Senegal for the runoff spot based on fair play... Barring the unforeseen, I see a comfortable Belgian victory in regular time. I can see this ending 2-0 or 3-1.

this is the weakest japan we've seen in years. their trademark short passing and off the ball movement were left in the past and now they try to play what.. "modern" football and tactics? lol, with these players its not going to work out. frankly, japan were quite fortunate in the group stage and i dont mean that yellow card rule. i'll give you a simple example: early red and a penalty vs colombia who were without james for the most part and yet 11 vs 10 was an equal game, colombia even having a slight advantage. thats the reality of japanese football right now - crappy gk, average defense, good wing backs (the only good thing) below average midfield (out of form players) and average offense (if inui doesnt play, then below average).

belgium looked motivated in all games so far, unlike the qualifying stage where they werent as convincing. they are not a team that has a rich history so i doubt they have grounds to be overconfident at this stage. the mood in the team is good, looks like the bench is also well prepared, judging by their performance against england.

no matter how you look at it belgium has the advantage in literally every aspect of the game, including the bench. relatively taller, quicker, more in form, better prepared, higher individual quality, i just cant see japan being able to do whatever. the only issue i have with the handicap is that japan can play organized defense and belgium generally struggle against such, however, that hasnt been the case in the group stage, although panama and tunisia arent exactly world class. one way or another belgium will win this game. japan over on yellow cards can be an option as well, many players in midfield/defense who arent afraid to make fouls, geneally shirt pulling. belgium has more than enough pace to force fouls, maybe we'll see a red card even

It is a pity we had to watch another poor match on this very poor WC.

I feel so sorry for Japanese, but on the other side, I am happy to watch Brasil v BElgium.
And dont start to bash belgium now, they will show their worth in quarters.

Brazil-Japan wouldn't have been bad to see either, Japan was a very pleasant team to watch in World cup especially tonight they kept playing even after leading but it was the coach mistake not to make the defensive changes especially after Belgium started to make offensive changes.. and after Hazard hit the post right after the first japanese goal... Good game but disapointing belgian defence, i think Willian and Neymar will be very hard to hold for them.

As I said, we should not judge Belgians from this match... we did these mistakes all the time, all the teams played poor-great-poor-great, so we need to judge Brasil v Belgium neutrally, man by man, and I think it will be very tough for Brasil...

It is different to play against a "smaller" team which is playing counter attack with 2 fast players, and different than playing against a team which is also attacking. Every "small" team can cause trouble these days to better teams but when time comes and THEY have to create, then they can't do that like the bigger names. If we change roles and Japan was attacking at this game and Belgium was playing counter with Hazard and Lukaku, Japan would had concede at least 6 goals.

As Macot said, Belgium against Brazil will be a whole different story and a team with a much better performance

This game was the ultimate proof that the best decision of a bettor is not to bet on this World Cup.

Pre-game this looked like one of the most straightforward and one-sided games and bets of the tournament. Knowing how many surprises happened, I decided not to pull the trigger early, but to wait and analyze the game in-live. During the first 30 minutes Belgium was all over them, total pressure and the goal was "in the air". Every sane bettor would have immediately put money on Belgium handicap at these circumstances. I deicded to play safe and conservative, and went for Begium-1AH.

And in the second half out of nothing Japan scores two goals and are close to netting a third. Absolute shocker. In the end I got my money back, but I see it is pointless to bet on this World Cup. There is little place for sane analysis and logic, there is too much random factor in each game. I just feel like I am in a casino.
