    Currie Cup

    Sharks vs Cheetahs

The Sharks were due to visit the Pumas on Wednesday but a Covid positive in their camp saw the game called off and the Sharks lost top spot to the Bulls, who now have a 9 point lead in the standings with two extra games played.

The Cheetahs played out a 44-44 draw at home to the Lions in midweek and they remain bottom of the standings, 7 points off a play off place. They do have a game in hand on some of the other sides but 3 of their 4 remaining matches are road trips.

The Sharks are without a few players, but they still have a good side. The Cheetahs look short on depth and are coming off a frantic 44-44 draw in midweek with the Lions, which I think will be felt in their legs later in the game.

This season the Currie Cup matches have been big overs, including the first match between these two sides 3 weeks ago (47-30 to the Sharks away at Cheetahs).

    Bet 1: Sharks -4.5 @1.82
    Bet 2: Over 60.5 points @1.92

      Currie Cup

      Western Province vs Pumas

Western Province were on a bye in midweek and they return to action on the back of a hard earned 40-39 home win over the Cheetahs last weekend.
In the first match between these two sides, WP beat the Pumas comfortably away (37-23), and I think if anything they are a stronger side now.
They are also under pressure to win the match as they are currently in a fight with 3 other teams to get a play-off spot, with only a few matches remaining.

In what is a big boost to Western Province, Gelant (South African international) made his return from injury off the replacements bench last week and has been named at fullback for this match.

They named a strong team for this match and they should win this.

      Bet 1: WP -6.5 @1.91
      Bet 2: Over 60.5 points @1.87

        Double based on the above

        Sharks + WP @2.14

          Rugby - Currie Cup

          Pumas vs Bulls

The Pumas are in the fight for a play-off spot, but they have named a weaker side, which suggests they are targeting the weekend's game against the Cheetahs, which they are more likely to win than this match tonight against the Bulls.
The Bulls will not play at the weekend and with a win here they can pretty much guarantee their top spot on the ladder.
Therefore I expect a big Bulls win with bonus point.

          Bet 1: Bulls -12.5 @1.86
Bet 2: Team Total Points - Pumas Under 26.5 @1.80

            Rugby - Currie Cup

            Western Province vs Lions
Both of these sides were poor last week.
WP were 14 points up towards the end of the game and they allowed the Pumas to score 14 points to grab a draw.

Western Province have a stronger squad tonight. Having Ruhan Nel and Gelant in the backline is a big boost for them and they should be able to put the Lions away, who aren't with their best team tonight.

            Bet 1: WP -5.0 @1.89
            Bet 2: Double - Bulls + WP @1.76

              Rugby - Currie Cup

              Cheetahs vs Griquas

Both teams have been involved in high scoring games. This season of Currie Cup has been a high scoring one in general anyway.
Both teams are still in contention to catch the play-offs and both teams need to get a 4-try bonus point tonight to help them with their points tally.

              Bet 1: Over 8.5 tries @1.93
              Bet 2: Over 68.5 points @1.87
              Bet 3: Griquas Over 30.5 points @1.85

                Rugby Union - Currie Cup

                Pumas vs Cheetahs

The Pumas have been playing well at home this season, except against top teams, and if they can reproduce the game they played against the Bulls last time out (lost 26-33 and the Bulls are the top team), they can win this comfortably.
The Cheetahs were lucky to get past Griquas (33-32) in midweek and I think they are going to run into trouble against the Pumas here.
The Currie Cup matches this season have been predominantly overs.

                Bet 1: Pumas -3.5 @1.97
                Bet 2: Over 67.5 points @1.87

                  Rugby - Currie Cup

                  Lions vs Sharks

The Lions look as if they lost interest in the competition, not that they are rock bottom and without any chances of progressing to the next stage.
They have been poor this season and they have looked out on their feet the last 2 matches they have played, as a hectic schedule has caught up with them.

The Sharks will be looking to secure a home semi-final. They have selected a strong team for this match and I expect them to come out firing.

                  Bet 1: Sharks -9.5 @1.91
                  Bet 2: Sharks -4.5 HT @1.82

                    Rugby International

                    Argentina vs South Africa

This is the second match between these two teams as part of The Rugby Championship. Because of Covid restrictions it is played in South Africa.
Last week the money came for Argentina on the handicap with the line moving from +12.5 to +6.5, and Argentina lost 12-32, in a match where they didn't put many problems to the Springboks.
This week however, the money has come for the Boks, with the -12.5 a few days ago, now gone to -16.5.

Having seen them how they struggled to break the South African defence, I think Argentina unders is a good play, as well as the Boks to beat the handicap.
This Boks side doesn't concede tries easily, in fact the Pumas didn't score any try last week, and despite not playing expansive rugby are usually good for 2 or 3 on their own. They will be targeting a bonus point (3 tries more than opponents) and achieving that would see them comfortably beat the cap.

In their last 10 games, South Africa conceded this number of tries:
                    0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0.

Argentina struggled to score a try last week, although they did come close.

South Africa welcome back their top players for his match, as they were rested last week after the demanding tests against the British & Irish Lions that they won.
Argentina made some changes to their squad too, trying to bring more physicality to face the Springboks, but South Africa with their first choice team are a tough team to score against, as the British & Irish Lions saw themselves. The Springboks are the World Champions after all, and they will want to maintain that tough defensive record, as well as defend their crown as Rugby Championship Title Holders.

                    Bet 1: South Africa -15.0 @1.82
Bet 2: Team Total Tries - Argentina Under 1.5 @1.72
Bet 3: Team Total Points - Argentina Under 15.5 @1.80

                      Rugby - Currie Cup

                      Griquas vs Pumas

Griquas have named an unchanged starting lineup for this encounter, coming off a brilliant victory over Western Province that put them in prime position to make the last four.
While there are scenarios where both sides could reach the Currie Cup semi-final, the winner of this contest will be assured of a place in the last four.

Big match for both teams, a lot on the line with the play-off spots in contention.
Both teams like to take the 3 pointers, they have good kickers.

                      Bet 1: Total tries Under 7.5 @1.73
                      Bet 2: Under 60.5 points @1.83
                      Bet 3: Griquas -2.5 @1.80

                        Rugby - Currie Cup

                        Bulls vs Cheetahs

The Bulls have been the best team by far this season. They have suffered just 2 defeats, to the Sharks away and at home to WP in the opening round, when they had to field their reserves.

Any lingering hopes the Cheetahs had of making the play offs evaporated in Nelspruit last weekend when they lost 28-19 to the Pumas. That left the Cheetahs with only the Lions below them in the standings and 8 points off a top 4 spot.
The Cheetahs have won just 3 games this season.

The Bulls need 2 points to ensure they finish top of the log and I cannot see a Cheetahs side with nothing to play for stand in their way.
This squad has so much depth and I think that they will run away with this.

                        Bet 1: Bulls -17.5 @1.87
Bet 2: Team Total Tries - Bulls Over 5.5 @2.47
Bet 3: Team Total Points - Bulls Over 39.5 @1.82

                          Rugby - Currie Cup

                          Sharks vs Western Province

The Sharks don't have any incentive to win and may mentally switch off ahead of the semi-finals, whereas WP can progress by winning.
The Sharks are second on the ladder, whereas WP are just outside the play-off zone, and this is the last match of the regular season.
WP are without Gelant and Roos and they are not the same team without these players. Western Province have opted to continue the rest period of top try-scorer Evan Roos and Warrick Gelant is out with a minor injury niggle.

The Sharks can put an undermanned WP side away.

Marius van der Westhuizen is a great overs referee.

                          Bet 1: Sharks -5.5 @1.85
                          Bet 2: Over 49.5 points @1.81
                          Bet 3: Over 5.5 tries @2.11

                            Rugby - Currie Cup

                            Bulls vs Western Province

Captain Coetzee returns from injury for the Bulls and their squad for tonight is very strong. They are the defending champions.

They are a well coached team and should win this comfortably.
Evan Roos is out, which is a big loss for the Province.
They won't be able to compete for too long against a very strong Bulls team and also playing at altitude.
Although it is a play-off game, I go with the minus, as the team that gets ahead will keep taking the 3 points and with no losing bonus point the team that falls behind has to chase early.

There are good conditions for this game and playing at altitude, so I'll take the overs.

                            Bet 1: Bulls -9.5 @1.85
Bet 2: Team Total Points - Bulls over 31.5 @1.92
                            Bet 3: Total Points Over 52.5 @1.87

                              Rugby - World Cup Qualifier

                              Canada vs USA

USA looked strong against England and in the first part against Ireland until they crashed. Canada is not the team they used to be and can't see them staying in the fight for too long.
Canada have lost their last 10 matches against all opposition and were smashed by England and Wales in the July internationals.

At the same time, USA scored four tries to run England closer than they ever have done, and while the way they fell apart against Ireland was disappointing, they still showed enough in the first part of that defeat in Dublin and they will be too strong for Canada.

For the Eagles, captain AJ MacGinty is back from injury, while Canada are missing several key players.

                              Bet: USA -13.5 @1.84

                                Rugby International

                                Australia vs New Zealand

These two countries played twice already this season, both times in New Zealand, both times the All Blacks won.
This is the first match on Australian home soil. It's going to be a sell-out crowd in Perth.
The Wallabies have named a strong team for this match and most importantly they have re-called Samu Kerevi. It's a solid looking starting 15 and likely perfect conditions.

Australia have won three out of their last five Tests against the All Blacks on home soil, two wins in Brisbane and one in Perth.
The Wallabies have shown that they are capable of creating good openings for the likes of Andrew Kellaway to exploit and the All Blacks**8217; defence is not that tight under Ian Foster.

In five of their last eight matches, they have conceded 20 points plus, whereas in each of the previous 11 matches the opposition scored less than 20.

In their two clashes with the All Blacks to date, Australia finished strongly in the first half, but haven't started too well in the second.

In the first half however, in both matches, the Wallabies started strong, putting the All Blacks on the back foot and forcing them to give away penalties.
The Wallabies showed that they are capable of scoring points, especially now that they have the dangerous Samu Kerevi back in the squad.
Winning the race to 10 points is not beyond them, as well as scoring 10 points in the first half.

                                Bet 1: Australia +20.5 @1.70
Bet 2: Team Total Points First Half - Australia Over 9.5 @1.86
                                Bet 3: Race to 10 Points - Australia @3.25
