  • Volleyball Women European League - May

    (Silver group)

Estonia vs Switzerland, May the 23rd, Wednesday @ 16:00 CET

Volleyball Women European League Silver. Switzerland turned in with a very young and experimental group (mostly a U21 team) in this competition, where they got brushed aside by Sweden with 0-3 on first gameday. Estonia have assembled a very strong team oriented around hot prospect Kertu Laak, in addition to Peit sisters, Ennok, Kullerkann etc. Estonia is a better team than Sweden right now and they should have no problems dismantling young Swiss team with 3-0 at home.

Estonia to win 3-0 or Estonia -2.5 sets @ 2.30 sets are my choices. I believe fair odds are around 1.60 on a 3-0 win by hosts.

Sweden - Switzerland result from last weekend.

Failure is a required element for success but not a sufficient one.

You've got a great track record in Volleyball (especially the women's teams)... The only thing I find a bit odd here is that the Swiss national trainer, who seems to be quite tactically adept, seems to think that this will be a close, hard-fought, match:

Timothy Lippuner, coach of Switzerland: "I think Sweden is the favourite in this group, so Estonia and Switzerland will fight for the second place in the pool. I expect a close fight and I think it is quite possible that this will be a five-set game."

Normally I find that coaches try to downplay expectations rather than raise them. Generally, I have also found Swiss people to be more inclined to understatements rather than overstatements...

But maybe he's got a high degree of job security and is misreading his opponent and/or overestimating his team...
