        Just saw this topic.
I have several arguments in favor of legalizing marijuana and I'm not a user.

Would generate taxes, jobs and weaken the drug dealers, since it is the most widely used drug in the world.

Marijuana does not cause physical addiction as suggested in that thread, cause psychological addiction. The alcohol and tobacco yes, cause physical addiction. The psychological addiction is dangerous? Yes it is, but someone who is addicted to marijuana, can become addicted to anything, such as gambling, for example. The problem is not the drug but with the person.

Drugs are used for a long time in the world but only in the recent centuries became a problem.

Is a lie when people say that marijuana use can lead to use of stronger drugs. People say this based on shoddy studies where they ask users of stronger drugs if they smoked marijuana before. If you ask a cocaine addict is obvious he will probably say he used marijuana, but you have never seen a study that encompassed all marijuana users and asked if they had used stronger drugs. If you do that you will see that the index is small, ie not the marijuana that causes the person to use other drugs, but the same reason why that person began to use marijuana (escape from reality, family problems etc).

And my main argument, THE SUPPRESSION FAILED! The number of users only increase. When the alcohol was banned in the U.S. the alcool mafia generated more crimes.

Marijuana is not legalized because it does not matter to politicians. There are people important who profit from it. I live in Brazil and it's getting close to the World Cup so the politicians want to change the image of Rio de Janeiro. I always heard some things like "the confrontation with drug dealers is difficult", "the outlaws are heavily armed", "the drug dealers are highly organized". Well, in one week the BOPE (Special Operations Battalion), along with the army and military police, ended two of the most important shantytowns in the context of the drug dealing here. Why this was not done before? Because did not interest them.

You bring some interesting arguments for legalization , but I think your opinion are wrong at the end. The border between physical and phycological addiction is not so clear and sometime we can consider a mix, or better a phycological addcition may come physical too !
It's not sure right comparing mar. to tobacco and alcohol , these are elements, may be insane, of our culture , of Western culture, not mar. for sure!
Moreover use of stronger drugs is helped by previous use of mar. or light drugs! No doubt !
Tell me one single heroin user not using mar. before ?
About crime: I'm not sure legalization can resolve the drug problem, the question is huge and very complicated.

heavy drinking and all kind of drugs are wrong

marijuana would eventually burn your brain. I know people in my country who killed people because they were 'smoked'. and not on the roads... but plus many drinkers and drug addicts are caught in traffic!

for this you also burn in hell, you destroy lives. so think twice before smoking weed! do you have soul issues, or psychological?
