Italy-Russie:
-Italy won its 4last matchs loosing only 1 set(yesterday against Holland 26-24) whereas Russia lost 3 sets (2against Holland)
-Italy has more experience than Russia (especially the setters). Look at what he russian coach is saying about his team after the match against Bulgaria "Our defense is still weak and tonight our attack wasn’t optimal either. We need to play perfect against Italy tomorrow because their game is complete. Although our setter is tactically good, technically she is not on the same level. Marina Sheshenina is still young and we don't have any preferences for the finals" Even if the choices of the setter are good, if the pass isn't "clear", the spikers can't attack well... Azerbaijan is the little surprise (for the journaliste but not for mee) in these 1/2final.I see this team play, and it's a very strong theam (excellent in reception, and their strengh is they never abdiquate).
To show you that they can beat a strong team, i decide to show the results of 3rd round of women's world qualification (wich took place in Russia):

They only lose one set against Russia (Gammova, Sheshinina, Safronava, Godina were still here)
Italy is the better team in these championship and i think they will win the title. But this match isn't so easy as lets it predict the odds.

I must say that your picks are wrong, because:

1) Azerbaijan in women volleyball is much better team than for exapmle azeris football team, actually at this moment it's one of the best teams in europe. Italians should win, but after hard match, definately not 3-0 score.

I agree with you. Moreover, Poland is playing in front off its public, and they want to conserve their title (they won in 2003 against Turkey in final).
The russian setter isn't so experimented (born in 1985) and it's a desandvatage for a 1/2final.

We have 2:0 and 24:21 and 3 match points in a row and we lost 3rd set 8O . Now we are losing in 4th and if we lose this game won game ... :evil:

Strange game because in my opinion it was close game only in 5th set.

In first three sets we were visibly better (in 3rd up to 24:21 8O ).

4th set was hard for our side becouse it's hard to win a set when players didn't jump at all 8O :lol: so Russians were obviously better side.

And finally tiebreak. As I said it was close set. Poland won 16:14 but the blind Bulgarian referee gave point to our rivals even if the line referee showed good ball for us ( tv replay showed it was a 200% good ball). And eventually we won 22:20.

Conclusion : if it seems that Poland(men or women) is going to win a game in straight three sets - for 100% it will be a 5th set game :evil:

For today Italy is a favourite in the final. Mainly because 1 reason - they've managed to finish yestarday's match in straight 3 sets. It's huge advantage in volleyball when matches are played day after day. And I'd say it's the only reason the italians are favourite here

We should finish the match against Russia in 3 sets too (24-21 in 3rd set), but because of our stupitidy and some unforgivible setter's errors at the end of 3rd set, we had to play 2.30h's match with dramatical tiebreak 22-20.

polish advantages:
- greatly increased team's morale after the match with Russia
- better block (Mroz, Skowronska)
- better serves (small amount of errors, more acces)
- excellent in defence (Zenik, Swieniewicz)
- knowledge about opponent (Glinka, Swieniewicz, Sliwa, Zenik, Skowronska - serie A1)
- lower preassure because, we have already achieved what we wanted - we came to Zagreb to qualify to the final four, not to defend the title. Now we should play relaxed and do our best, but I think it'll be too hard for us cause of tiredness...

ita advantages:
- freshness & more rest after semifinals
- slightly better reception (Cardullo, Del Core, Rinieri)
- better setter (Lo Bianco)
- excelent in defence (Cardullo)
- very small amount of unforced errors

Finally my pick: POL - ITA: 1 - 3

Yeahhhhhh, we did it - GOLD AGAIN !!!!!!!!

The truth is that it was awesome & interesting match, match played on really high-level - very small amount of errors from both sides, excelent in defence from both sides, polish girls almost perfect in block, most attacks ended in 1st hit.

What I want to say - we have great team and after that what I've seen in this championship, Im sure it wasnt the last spectacular success of our team

Great nightforour -Goldies- superb performance, our libero showed tremendous defence, setter Belcik had timeof her life not to mention that Glinka excelled in attack in the most important clash this year. For me, Agata mroz, the middleblockeris MVP of the final game. I am really in great mood to see them defend dold medals. Hope they will try to fight with Chinese and Brasilians soon.
I bet on 3-0 ITA-AZE and +1.5Pol-Rusia, today i wanted to bet but did not know wheather to followheart or make it levelledin case of Italy's win.
