This problem is fixed now. It was myself that caused it, because I tweaked the code last night, per recommendation from an optimization site, but it apparantly did not work.
Should work now though.

I am struggling a bit to tweak the forum for speed improvements, caching, etc.
Phpbb was better in terms of caching, but Vbulletin is much more secure, and has got much better options for users and moderators.
It is a tradeoff, really.
But, I hope to improve the speed of this forum more, as I am not satisfied with it.
And no, it has nothing to do with the banners, the slowness seen sometimes is due to scripts, non-optimal caching, etc.

You should also fix the link to Pick of the day from the mainsite. It links to ...php?f=58 and it should be to ...php?f=40 , right?

I hear others also saying this.
For me, it is a bit slower, but it could relate to some DNS stuff.
I think that after a while, when most of the forum pages have been visited by people, the caching will work better.

I also think the speed issue is a bit down to browser and browser settings. I use IE 7.

I have noticed a big difference at home compared to at work, and those are different line providers, but I got actually a speedier line at home, yet it seems slower. Have to do with DNS at my local internet provider I think.

I don't face any speed problems, but what bothers me a lot is that after i read the last unread message of X subforum is marked as "read". But when i move (forward) at the main forum the subforum is NOT marked as read. The orange button is still lit and it takes lots of time for this to change (and a few reloads of course). In the meantime, many things have changed in this specific subforum and i hate it. I don't know, maybe it's my browser/pc...

It is possible to do something with this in the forum settings, but it will make the forum slower. Usually in forums like this, the marking of read or non-read forums are based on inactivity or cookies. So also on this forum.

From the admin section:

This option controls how threads and forums are marked as read.
  1. <LI class=smallfont>Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.

This option is how all versions of vBulletin before 3.5 functioned.

<LI class=smallfont>Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.

This option is more space and processor intensive than inactivity-based marking.

  2. Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.

This is the most usable option for end users, but most processor intensive
------------------

As you cna see we are running option 1 at the moment, while option 3 would be best suited for Paralias, but not best suited for the forum overall.

Lol, thanx for losing some time for me Terje. I wouldn't ask for something that wouldn't suit u and community well, it just bothers me. Actually, i had this questionmark about inactivity, but now i have my answer

But i would recommend to give option 3 a try for i.e. 12h, so u can check if it's really making things slower. Unless this quote

Sorry if it's already been discussed, but what about "last 10 forum posts"-feature? It is not the same without it

THats correct. I am looking at a few RSS solutions, but the old solution we had, Last 10 forum topics, was designed for phpbb, and can not be used at Vbulletin.
It is on the TODO list though.

In the past BA time was CET (GMT+1). Why now BA time is GMT+2 without logining and GMT after logining? Strange***8230;

Please stop deleting old livescore threads.

Move them to an archive, or deny access for guests if they generate traffic.

Back on mainpage now. Had to do some research of how to do this on Vbulletin. Can not use the same system as we had when running phpbb as forum siftware, but as far as I can see, it is working well now.

Only drawback so far is that I have not been able to direct the links to the last post in the thread yet.

Old livescore threads are just full of useless info, mainly. I doubt anyone is looking through all those after the games, certainly not days and weeks after.

sometimes i go back and read how a match unfolded when i research teams, the livescore thread can have some useful info... it's easier than searching youtube for clips. comments in the thread give a more accurate picture of recent form than just pure stats. at least 2 weeks back would be useful. and i don't see how it would overload the server besides database size... i don't think modern servers lack storage space.

Quote:

don't really care, make the livescore section posts not increase the postcount :P better yet, hide postcount from being displayed in every post, make it only available in the user's profile page if someone's curious.

And thisis now fixed. When clicking on the links in the Last 10 forum topics listings on mainpage BA, you will now get directly to the last post in that thread.

Thats because I have disabled the Verifybet.com listing which used to be there, during development of the VB table.
It is the VB table that causes this distortion on some Firefix browsers.
Until this is fixed, I have disabled the Verifybet table and you wont have any errors like that

SOMEWHERE ON THIS SITE WROTE NEXT:

How do I attach a file to a post?

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

BUT I CAN NOT TO USE THIS. WHAT ABOUT A PROBLEM? CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?
