FC Spartak Moskva defender Ignas Dedura has earned a recall to the Lithuania squad for their UEFA EURO 2008 qualifier against France in Nantes on 17 October.

Coach Algimantas Liubinskas recalled Dedura as a replacement for Marius Stankevicius, who broke his collarbone in Glasgow during Lithuania's qualifier against Scotland on 8 September. FC Rostov forward Robertas Poškus is also out injured with Tadas Labukas drafted in to strengthen Lithuania's attacking options. Deividas Cesnauskis is also sidelined, enabling Vytautas Luksa of FK Vilnius to receive his first call-up to the senior squad, which has been reduced to 24 players after UEFA rejected Saulius Mikoliunas's appeal against a two-match ban imposed for deceiving the referee in the Scotland match.

Wow, pathetic odds on France win.. The French depend on other results in their group to have a shot at the 1st or 2nd place. Faroe islands were a walkover, but nevertheless France were very effective in front of goal. Basically they scored on almost anything dangerous they had and Ribery was brilliant, I'm not just saying that because I'm a Bayern fan
Lithuania is of course a better opponent and their defense will be much harder to crack down. I'm considering under 3.5 goal at 1.90, it might be worth a shot considering the French defense is very tight, and a 2-0,3-0 France win is quite possible IMO.

That's not true, mate. 6 points from the two remaining games for them means SURE 1st or 2nd place, because Scotland and Italy have to play against each other (November 17.07 Scotland-Italy).

So a very safe HW with very low odds. Waiting for the Asian handicap to see the offers.

Lithuania without:

Robertas Poskus
Deividas Cesnauskis
Marius Stankevicius
Deividas Semberas

Still we have very good GK Karcemarskas, D - Skerla, Dedura, Klimavicius, Alunderis, Zvirgzdauskas. MF - Ivaskevicius, Ksanavicius, Savenas and F - Danilevicius, Beniusis, Jankauskas, Velicka... Team isn't so bad... One problem - we have a lot of injuries in defence...

You also forgot suspended Mikoliunas, who is very important for Lithuania, because he's quick winger, in this kind of matches, when we will play mostly on counters, such player is very usefull, just like D.Cesnauskis, who is also missing. so probably Ksanavicius will try to replace them, he is in quite good form now. Poskus is not important. but in defence we'll have a lot problems, there's no players to replace Stankevicius or Semberas, so it's very big blow for us. Even with them our defence was shaky, but now I'm afraid it will be a very sad game for us don't have odds for this game, but if there will be a decent odd for -1 , I will take it for sure

In defense I don't see that many problems: Skerla and Zvirgzdauskas played many times together in central defense, Klimavicius on the right side, Paulauskas on the left. If you rate Stankevicius as MF I would say it is our best possible defensive lineup. Still there is a big problem: it's the missing of Semberas in central midfield and I really don't know who could replace him there.

Mikoliunas? Maybe his quickness and some counterattacks would relieve Lithuania's defense a little bit, but a substitute player like him can't have that much influence on a team. Without him we maybe won't get gifts like undeserved penalties or so.

The odds on France are simply a joke although they may well win in the end. But I just remember qualification opener in Italy where Lithuania surprisingly stole a draw. Odds for that game were about 1.2 on Italy and now can get 1.1 on France? What's the reason? I must admit I'm still searching for that one. So AHC+3 on guests doesn't look that bad, but I prefer correct score 2-0 and 3-0 (maybe a cover on 1-0 too) for much better odds. I hardly see Lithuania scoring neither I see Frenchmen thrashing the guests.

France home games in Group B:
vs. Italy 3-1
vs. Faroe Islands 5-0
vs. Ukraine 2-0
vs. Georgia 1-0
vs. Scotland 0-1

Lithuania's away games in Group B:
@ Italy 1-1
@ Faroe Islands 1-0
@ Ukraine 0-1
@ Scotland 1-3

H2H in Group B:
Lithuania - France 0-1

And we can say that Anelka's goal in Lithuania was some kind of nonsense. He ran about 40 metres and nobody stoped him. That was a silly mistake...

No, 6 points from them does not mean a sure 1st place.
They depend on the Scotland - Italy match result to get the 1st place. Scotland can settle for a tie in that match if they make sure to win their game against Georgia, and they will go trough as number 1 in the group.
So if Scotland draw(or win of course) against Italy they'll take the 1st place, and leave the 2nd for France. Assuming that Scotland will beat Georgia before facing Italy and France will get 6 points in their remaining 2 matches.

I see Lithuania +3 in some bookies. My opinion that is good bet, because as we see results Lithuania don t lose to anybody more than to 2 goals and they have a good defense. The worst that can be is 3-0

Hi,

My bet on this match is for Henry to score anytime in this match at 2/1. He's after the platini record of the most goals for France and he can beat it this game.

Given the injuries in the Lithuania squad and the fact that France need to win both their games to qualify this seems a good value.

if it comes down to who progresses between France and Scotland, ie same points. Head to heads are then taken into consideration, so Scotland would progress.

Henry in

http://www.soccerway.com/news/2007/O...o-fire-france/

Substitutes Benzema and Ben Arfa scored three of France's four second-half goals in the 6-0 victory in Torshavn including two from Benzema after he had replaced the injured Anelka.

And the competition for places is such that Domenech had the luxury of leaving Serie A top goalscorer David Trezeguet out of both the qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Lithuania.

In the absence of Anelka, Domenech has called up Monaco's Frederic Piquionne but could opt to pair Benzema with Thierry Henry in a 4-4-2 formation or try a different 4-2-3-1 format.

Henry for his part will be hoping to surpass French legend Michel Platini's haul of 41 goals for Les Bleus after equalling the record on Saturday.

Lithuania scored at least a goal in 3 of last 4 away games.
(they scored in Italy and in Scotland too!!!!)

Lituania to score at 3.69 odds is a must take with 9/10 stakes!

they played with one attacker in Italy and Scotland too.

And our squad France is more relaxed now, because Scotland lost in Georgia and SCotland chances to qualify are now much much slimmer, so France is almost qualified

lithuania was so sh*t in offense it was ridiculous, they were not able to control a single ball, everytime they had the ball they missed a pass and gave it to france, every single time!
they played really really great defense and the 2nd goal was just a small mistake by the defensers,
i wasnt so much impressed by france, since lithuania played in defense well obviously france was attacking all the time
