Monthly announcement - November

Maybe the reasonable results and the logics still exists and maybe we are back on the track finally. The start of ULEB cup and the challenge games brought us more winners and Euroleague round finally turned to be profitable. Wednesday Euroleague by Rakas

There are 4 matches today in Euroleague and as they are quite hard to predict I will make a short summary about each of them. I will not have more than 1-2 official picks out of it today and I will make my decision later today.

Cibona - Khimky

The situation in the table is different. Cibona is 0-4 at the moment. Do they have a chance for the quarterfinals? Yes. What does Cibona need? They need to win today (which is not so cosmic task) and win the next week in Spain (which I would not call out of reach for them as well). At the same time they have to expect Olympiacos to win today at home against Caja and the next week in Spain against Khimky. In this situation, all 3 teams would have 2W each and the differences would be counted then among them. All Cibona need is to win both remaining games with a combining difference at around 10-15pts, so that means they will be trying to build the difference needed - and it will surely start from today.
Now lets return to this game - is Cibona capable of winning today? Playing at home, having full support from their fans, having last hopes for the quarterfinals, trying to win their first W in this round... I think the answer is positive - they should be capable having in mind their last home matches where even bigger teams had problems in winning. Talking about Khimky - their play depend on their mood mostly - sometimes they play the nicest basketball and sometimes you can not recognize them at all. Their defense is their main key to the victories, but what I've recognized is that Scariolo isn't that perfect coach really. I've seen it last summer and I see it now - he sometimes looks as if he does not know what to do - how to act, what to tell his players and which method is the best at that special moment and the trophies he had won? Yes - he won a lot of them, but I would say that players won it in most of the cases - not his head.

To sum up, we will see Cibona desperately trying to win this one at home, giving all they've got, but the quality is on the Russians side and Khimky is too unpredictable. What we have to think of is Cibona's victory today as I don't see big value in the total.

Zalgiris - Prokom

Zalgiris (1-3) meets Prokom (3-1) in Kaunas Sports Hall. One team is still trying to grab their chance, but is it really a chance? Most would laugh at it as Zalgiris (I don't really want to count exact points) has to win by ~25 this match and ~ the same the next one in Russia against CSKA. Everyone is talking that they are still trying to grab their opportunity, but I don't see any opportunity at all and the players know that deep in their mind as well. I think that today will be the day when both teams of the quarterfinals will be known in this group and nothing will be changed. Prokom wants to win this one to have their job done in this round and this W is realistic, but let's take a look from another angle. Prokom can lose this one by 20 and lose at home by 19 against Unicaja (which is not going to happen, but that's the theory), so their W don't look that good anymore.
To tell the truth - Zalgiris guards won't be able to stop Ewing and Logan, Zalgiris front court is so weak while Watson is sitting on the bench and the crowd at Kaunas is not that productive as it used to be earlier as the team have less and less supporters with the things happening in the team now.

To sum up, CSKA and Prokom has 95% of going to the quarters and even Zalgiris players know that. The quality, smartness and need of a W is on the Polish side. With Romanov dictating the rules I even think we will see the youth on the court (at least at the end of the match) and simply last victory against Unicaja is enough for Zalgiris. I like this game for betting, but I will make my decision later on.
