If you are not into Scottish football, here are a few things that is good to know because not only the first place at the group stage is important. Every result count and every goal (for or against) counts more!

First of all, who qualified for cup games, rules, money and more.

- At this stage, teams that have qualify for champions league/europa league will NOT participate (Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Hibernian).
- The two teams that finished first at Lowland League and Highland League (fifth division) can participate too (Cove Rangers and Spartans).
- The 8 first teams from each group will qualify for the next round together with the best 4 second teams
- At the group stage, the winner of 90 minutes is getting 3 points. If the game ends in draw, then penalties applies (no extra time) and the winner will take 2 points while the loser will take 1 point.
- Criteria in case teams end up with same points: 1) Goal difference, 2) Best attack, 3) Best away attack, 4) more wins, 5) more away wins and 6) draw.

Even if a team has no chance to qualify because much better teams are on their group, the money prize is very important as the income of low level teams is not enough from others sources (tickets, sponsors etc etc). The total amount that will be shared among all teams is near 2.4m. The teams that will finish first in the group stage will earn 39.555 euros, second place will earn them 28.325, third place 23.793, fourth 21.527 and fifth place will earn the teams the amount of 19.261. There will be also a bonus of 13.596 euros for each team that their game will be televised. The winner of Betfred cup will earn 283.254 euros.

Some might say that ok, 19.261 is a joke money to run a club and the difference between 5th place and 4th is not so much for someone to care where they will finish. Maybe yes in other countries but you need to understand that every possible income is very very important for the lower leagues teams. This is Scottish football and teams are getting fined often as the game is a bit harsh and sometimes it is getting out of control. Take Cowdenbeath for example: They were fined two times this summer for things that happened last season (first fine came at 21 June and second one came just yesterday). First fine was 1000 for mass confrontation situation in a game and second one was 1200 for annual Player Misconduct Review (Cowdenbeath ranked 9th of the 10 teams in League 2 on this measure). In general, a mid range offence fine for Premier club is 2500, for Championship, league 1 & 2 clubs is 1000, for all other clubs 500. For the premier league clubs, the 2500 fine is manageable but for the lower league teams, even the 500 is a lot. And since we are talking about Cowdenbeath, they will be the same hard team and worst at their home games with the players they got, so more fines will come in the future

This is just an example to understand that even finishing at the fourth place, is important for low level clubs. So expect most of those teams to play caution defensive football and not take many risk. But even if they found their selves behind on score against an equal team, then they will chase the equalizer. Even the 1 point from a loss at penalties is something for them to their race for a better position at the end. There are few teams tho that they aim high and the fine of 1000 is ok, or not so much of a problems, teams like Clyde or Stirling (they have good owners, good income etc). Their first objective should be to qualify from this round for the extra income from the televised games, so they will chase for max possible points (depending their opponents).

Good, that's all for now and i hope you bothered to read as betting is about knowledge as well and not just gambling around to spend your time (at least for me). See you tomorrow

See Kilmarnock for example against St. Mirren today. They both changed their coaches for this new season so some time is needed as usual for them to perform better. Kilmarnock at premiership division and St. Mirren at championship. The game to went to penalties where St. Mirren won 1-0. Two points for them but one point also for the new formed Kilmarnock team. St. Mirren won max possible points while Kilmarnock won also 1, despite they lost the game from a one division lower team. Even if you lose, taking the max out of nothing is something

Kilmarnock did not change coach.

St Mirren is a Premiership team (they won the Championship last season).

The rule is if a game finishes a draw, a penalty shoot-out is played and the winner gets an extra point.

These games are basically pre-season friendlies. Not many teams will be too serious or worried about the results.

Kilmarnock kicked off so short because not much else to bet on today and people just kept backing them.

true about Kilmarnock, i misread the info from somewhere but didn't checked, apologies for that.

What do you mean by an extra point? It says here https://spfl.co.uk/league-cup/format/ two points for a shoot-out win and one point for losing on penalties. Has something change for this season or i didn't got correctly what you meant?

cheers and thanks for correcting about Kilmarnock.
