Excellent....
I know two movies, which are specific in my example. I mean, all - and I mean all - say that they are great, perfect, a movies to watch ever and ever. I havent' heard a negative opinion about them.

But I don;t like them at all....

First is Oldboy and second is 21 grams. I dunno why, but I didnt like those movies at all, i got bored after 15 minutes and didn't fell like watching them.

Dead Man with Johny Depp a film by Jim Jarmush.......absolute beauty,black & white..........just pure fact that movie can sometimes show meaning of life.........

And another one from Monthy Python`s..........The Life of Brian is MUST SEE...........

And nowdays I am really displeased with scenarios,with act,with ideas,I have energy for about 15 minutes and then found that every movie is just copy from the past.......I really hate fact that every movie is full of tricks,mixes from modern tehnology,just sound and visual efects and no real acting,no real human stories anymore..........

Bright Side of Life
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistling]

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle. That's the thing.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life,
[whistling]

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.
So,...

Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistling]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
[whistling]

Life's a piece of ****,
When you look at it.

Life's a laugh and death's a joke. It's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life.
[whistling]

As a gambler I cant possibly go for anything else except

CASINO

Which one of us on here doesn't aspire to be like De Niro in the final scene of the movie...where he is sitting in a room full of TV sets showing various sports, while he is busy handicapping the odds..... 8)

Other favourite movies of mine are:

* Planes, Trains, Automobiles (best comedy!)
* Forrest Gump
* The 6th Sense
* Unforgiven (best western)
* Blow
* Fargo
* La Bamba

An "arty" film I would highly like to recommend is:

Incredible acting, a once in a lifetime performance by Holly Hunter.

Last night I watched " Lord of War " and I am not very impressed. Cage puts an average performance and the movie is a good way to spend 2 hours, but its really naive.

I also have to mention:
HEAT
-the face to face confrontation between De Niro and Pacino is unique and legendary in cinema history.

Leon (best french movie ever in my opinion)

Desperado 1 and 2 (Banderas best movies, and fantastic performan ce by J. Depp in the second part)

Mean guns (Christopher Lambert 10 +)

Dangerous Minds (great movie and great soundtrack Coolio- Gansta's paradise)

Devil's advocate (Great performance by All Pacino, Keanu Reeves and lovely Charlize Theron)

I just got Casino today, I'll be checking it out later this week..

My all time favorite has to be Scarface though, what a great movie. Other good movies;

Sin City
La Vita est Bella
Pulp Fiction
The Pianist
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
and on a completely different note; Lord of the Rings trilogy

Not on the all time best list of movies, but Sean Penn was amazing in Mystic River AND I am Sam, massively underrated performance. Great actor. Also loved Mickey Blue Eyes for pure entertainment, if only for Hugh Grant's pronouncation of 'Foggetaboutit'.

Not really a movie, but a must watch anyway: Band of Brothers

As you can see, I'm a sucker for war movies.

This is my top 5 list but warning I'm a bit of a sci-fi freak so maybe it's not for all tastes.

1) STAR WARS (Original Trilogy) - Unsurpassed at any level after all these years

2) Blade Runner - (Simply the best sci-fi movie ever made)

3) Alien (the first movie) - (A unique mixture of sci-fi, horror and action)

4) Once upon a time in America - (Sergio Leone is my fav filmaker)

5) L.A. Confidential - (One of the great films of the 90's)

Good one Olympiakara..... I have to admit I rarely expect an Olympiakos fan to be a 'cinefil'...

You must be one of the exceptions.... :wink:

Ok , there was another thread about movies as someone mentioned ...

I will once again state 2 or 3 'pearls' IMO that are maybe hard to find and probably will only appeal to a few members...

First of all : Vozvrashcheniye ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376968/)

This is a masterpiece of modern Russian cinema...I was stunned when I saw this (DVD)... I can only imagine how it would have felt if I had watched in a cinema...

Secondly Kim-ki Duk's 3-Iron (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0423866/)

Utterly beautiful and touching... Duk is one of a kind.....and what a song by Natasha Atlas ...

I would also like to mention 'Missing' by Costa Gavras... Famous one, I saw it once more recently and I was once again stunned by Jack Lemmon's acting...One of the best performances I have ever seen..

I was deeply affected by this movie cause I was always somehow curious to know what happened back then in 1973 when Alliente's goverment was torn to pieces by Pinochet...

I stronlgy recommend all three... The first 2 however are definatelly not for everyone ....

P.S.

I haven't watched the film Arttex mentioned.... I hope I manege to get in DVD here in Greece

Good one indeed and well worth finding it. Was on Crete this summer, btw. Kind of place I like. Not urban too much, with warm small towns.

Speaking about funny movies, which can make your evening for two hours, I would like to mention these two with Hugh Grant: "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and "Nothing Hill".
"Before the Rain" is something on different level, though.

Doesn't anybody here like Alfred Hitchcock? So many great movies, I can't decide which one is my favourite.

Also, one of the movies I would like to see any day is Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch.

Talking about movies i highly recomand you to see "Se7en", by David Fincher. Four super-stars (Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey and Gwyneth Paltrow) in a five-star movie, IMO, who deserve to be in '90 top-ten movies ever made.

"This movie is from start to finish a well produced and directed film. The performances in this movie are outstanding. Brad Pitt, once again, makes his role a stand-out performance by putting his versatile acting skills into his interpretation of Detective David Mills. Morgan Freeman is well-cast. His brooding acting style fits the character (Detective William Somerset) like a glove, and Gwyneth Paltrow gives her best performance EVER in the role of Brad Pitt's supportive wife/lover (Tracy Mills). And of course, Kevin Spacey who plays the diabolical yet misunderstood serial killer". (imdb.com)

See it :!: :!: :!:

"O Brother, Where Art Thou?" *

* no spelling mistakes

I found this movie extremely amusing, Coen brothers can make a great actor even from George Clooney. Fantastic music and 1,5 hour of good fun
