General picks: Brisbane Roar vs. Ceres

0
Posted by Macot (2018-01-22 22:11 CET)

Well, this is going to be an easy job for one of Australian better teams. They are not brilliant this season in A League, but against a team from Philippines they should be able to secure their place in the next stage of Champions League. We have a good pointer for this match, two years ago, Brisbane played against another top team from Philippines, and won easily: 6-0!

Now, this is one leg qualification match, no return leg, a bit weird, but better team has home advantage anyway and that should be used.

Brisbane will be able to field their strongest team and will try to qualify for the next round. Last season they have eliminated Chinese team there so they will try to repeat the qualification to the group stages of AFL Champions League.

On the other side, Ceres already played one eliminatory round and after penalties they have eliminated Myanmar champions, that can also give us a good sign of how good (bad) they actually are.

I expect a good performance by home team, my call is 5-1!

Chiangrai against Bali, laziest fixed match ever seen. Players looked too scared to score a goal.
Even team names sounds funny. Absolute comedy.

18:30 Tianjin Quanjian (Chn) - Ceres (Phl)
21:00 Kashiwa (Jpn) - Muang Thong Utd (Tha)
21:30 Suwon Bluewings (Kor) - Thanh Hoa (Vie)
22:00 Nasaf Qarshi (Uzb) - Al-Faisaly Amman (Jor)
22:35 Shanghai SIPG (Chn) - Chiangrai Utd (Tha)

This is quite a tough play off round. You may think some of these ties are easy but none of the leagues have started yet so its quite difficult to predict.

Well you would think the Chinese teams would do well? How about the Thai teams? will they play defensive and try to do a smash and grab or to try and force the game into extra time etcc? Keep in mind its only 1 leg before the group stages start soon.

What's everyone thoughts on these games tonight/today? can we expect maybe some goal fest games or do you think most games will be tight?

I wonder how the Jap and Korean teams will do - there seasons don't start till late Feb/Early March as well as the Chinese teams. I see Thai League starts this weekend.

Im in Thailand atm

Muang Thong United is in Japan since 3 days to get used to the temprature difference of around 25 degree between both countrys.

MTU lost their GL to Belgium 2nd league. Teerasil and Bunmathsn eill play their last game for MTU as they will stay in Japam afer this game as both were loaned to J-League. ( all three are key players )
MTU signed Jackson Coelho as new strikers , but his fitness level wont last for 90’.

Mgr Totchtawan talked about the game between both teams last season, but i couldnt find any H2h stats.

MTU won their first game at home 5:2 vs Taksim from Malaysia.

In general i have to say that Thailands football recieved a huge set back in the last year after a small period of rising their level. Thr U23 had to leave the tournament of AFC without a point vs NorthKorea, Plaestine amd Japan for example. Only Buriram could make it ever to AFC CL group level.

I got no infos about Reysol, but i would keep japanese football at least 2 levels higher. If they dont underestimate MTU then this may be a clear HW.

My bet

AHC O 3.0 for 1.80 bet365 7/10

Muang Thong played in the CL group stage last season. They even finished second in the group behind Kashima Antlers and qualified for the second round.

Asia AFC Champions League
Tianjin Quanjian (Chn) - Ceres (Phl)
Tianjin Quanjian -1.5@1.93 bet365 3/10
Ceres didn't expect can pass Brisbane Roar, so they didn't apply for VISA on time, the whole team just arrived at Tianjin this morning 6:30. Game will start at 15:30, only 9 hours for them to prepare, and don't forget they are from tropical zone, now Tianjin is -6 to -3 degree.delayed flight, long travel hours, little rest, and no training, also low temperature. Ceres need to overcome too much.

Chinese love play against Philippines
At the national level
1974.11.20 China 2-0 Philippines
1974.11.20 China 2-0 Philippines
1974.11.23 China 2-0 Philippines
1978.12.25 China 3-0 Philippines
1982.05.02 China 2-0 Philippines
1987.04.10 China 9-0 Philippines
1987.04.13 China 10-0 Philippines
1996.02.01 China 7-0 Philippines
2000.01.23 China 8-0 Philippines
07/06/17 China PR 8 - 1 Philippines

Brisbane Roar didn't care AFC, so Ceres cover it, but Tianjin is fully focus on it, all Chinese focus on it.They take it seriously.

Don't know why handicap odds going down, but still worth a shot, in-play bet is much better.

AFC Champions League

Sydney FC vs Suwon Bluewings

Sydney are in great form in A-League and they haven't lost at home for about two years now.

They are a class above the rest of the teams in the domestic competition, with the most prolific attack and the tightest defence.

The Koreans are in the off season right now and they came to Australia to a different climate too, from the Korean winter to the Australian summer.

Sydney have the full strength squad and given their form, this should be a home win.
Also, because the Koreans might be a bit rusty, I think Sydney with their attacking line can score a couple.

Bet 1: Sydney win @1.95
Bet 2: Team Total Sydney over 1.5 @1.90

Combined with Antlers. Only worry about Sydney is that Autralians not doing good in AFC. Some Koreans had international friendlies, but , yeah, their team comes with pre-season form.

And. You can't win them all, Sydney is going to loose sooner or later. Hope not today.

Suwon has only lost 2 of their last 15 away games in the ACL, both to Chinese teams. Even though that Sydney seem very solid the Australian teams seem to deliver very different performances each year, and almost always concede against Asian teams on home turf. I’m on the over here.

SYdney is a class above Suwon
Ignore the fact that Aussies don***8217;t do well in ACL or Koreans always do well etc.
Fact is Sydney is a much better team and in form at the moment
Suwon is no match for them.
Sydney to win for sure, with EH -1.5 @ 4.00 for the bacon

Well, Australian teams continue to be overrated. Sydney wasn’t any match for the wise Koreans today. Sheer class from Damjanovic on the first strike.

Lousy, shameful display by Sydney.

Not for a single moment did they look like the runaway leaders that they are in A-League.
On the contrary, the Koreans looked like they were in full season and made Sydney players look like muppets.

Australian league is just much weaker than Korean and Japanese.

I personally would back Aussie teams only when they are big underdogs in away games in ACL (sometimes they surprise strong home teams with their counters), but never when they are favorites against a Japanese, Chinese or Korean team

Coaching for me is a big issue for Australian teams. With the exception of Popovic who took to ACL tactic's quickly, most coaches lack the tactical know how and it shows. Graham Arnold tried his hand in the J-League and left with his tail between his legs, from memory not even winning a game in his 3-4 month stay.

Australian teams should have a big advantage given they are near the end of their season compared with Japan and South Korea in pre-season and in past years this has worked. In Melbourne Victory's game against Ulsan Hyundai you saw the Korean players bent over gasping for air in the last 20mins when Melbourne Victory should have been winning the game, however poor coaching meant reserve players were replacing starters leaving no one to convert.
