Default A-League - 23-26.11

Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne Victory

Two big names are out for the Jets, Duncan and O’Donovan (leading goalscorer, 7 goals in 6 matches). We could see the impact of O’Donovan’s absence in the match against Sydney, when the Jets couldn’t avoid the defeat.

Victory are at full strength, they beat Perth away comfortably (2-0) last week, they looked well settled so they should build up on the their momentum.

However, the Jets aren’t second in the league for no reason, so this match being played in Newcastle, is no easy task for Victory, even against an injury hit Jets.

Drawing on similarities, Perth were missing two big names too, of which one prolific forward, and Victory won 2-0.

The Jets however has looked a better outfit than Perth so far, and should be able to hold on for a draw.

Bet 1: Victory +0.25 @1.70

Bet 2: Draw @3.66

So maybe under 2,5 @1.90 could be the best option

I'm not going for under here. Not that it is impossible to have a low scoring game.

The Jets scored a goal away to Sydney in their 1-2 defeat playing without O'Donovan.
They should score one at home too, but I'm asking myself whether they'll be able to hold Victory and not lose the match.

Victory has the internationals back in.

Victory scored first, then got a red card on 28 minutes, and it was all downward from there

Melbourne City vs Perth Glory

Glory is going through a rough time due to injuries. They've got 7 players ruled out, among which 4 star players, Taggart, Castro, Andreu and Neville.

Glory's coach already fielded a 16 year old in last week's home defeat (0-2) to Melbourne Victory, and will do so again tonight.

City are boosted by the return of Cahill and import striker Ross McCormack.
They are on a poor run, after gaining only one point in their last three matches, so this is a very good opportunity for them to recover.

Bet 1: City -1 @1.85
Bet 2: City over 1.75 goals @1.63

Taggart and Castro is 70% power of Pert Glory ...

Fornaroli has been injured for a long time.
Anyway, a team of City's calibre should not have had problems at home against a visitor's team missing all their heavy weights, adding Keogh replaced in the first half.
Glory was a seriously crippled team in this match, and yet they won.

Wellington Phoenix vs Central Coast Mariners

Phoenix had their last week's match postponed, so are well rested for this match.
Moreover, they welcome back several players from injury/suspension/international duty, and they are at full strength.

At home they have scored 9 goals in 3 matches this season, conceding 6 goals.
As productive as their attack is, their defence has been like a sieve.

The Mariners have a full strength squad too, as not only they welcome back some players from suspension or injury (including their captain and their leading goal scorer), but they've also singed up two Dutch players recently to boost their midfield.

I think we'll see goals in this match.

Bet 1: Phoenix Over 1.75 goals @2.03
Bet 2: Over 3 goals @2.02
Bet 3: Total goals/ BTTS Yes - Over 2.5 goals @1.80

Adelaide United vs WS Wanderers

Adelaide Utd are coming from a great Cup final they played 5 days ago in Sydney.
They lost it after 120 minutes of very good football, but they lost it to the best team in the league, who was also playing at home: Sydney FC.
They did have their chances though, but they missed.

Some may argue that Adelaide players will be tired after an extenuating match.
However, that match was played 5 days ago, and not 3 or 4 days ago.

Players at this level are used to such levels of effort, we can see examples throughout the world, but also right here in Australia.
In the basketball league for example, teams play in New Zealand and then travel to Perth (or the other way around) to play in 2 or 3 days time.
That is across 5 hours time zones and probably 7 hours flight, without all the other factors (travel to and from the airport, check in times, etc), and they are fresh as ever and play to win the game.

One thing that drew my attention this weekend is that all matches had plenty of goals, tired or rested teams.

Sydney FC played yesterday, so they had only 4 days rest after the gruelling cup final.
Brisbane Roar were well rested and they came with the stated intent to harm Sydney.

The result? Sydney were 2-0 up after 15 minutes and 3-0 in the second half, before Roar scored once in injury time: 3-1.

Wellington had a week off due to their match being postponed.
Central Coast Mariners looked like a good victim for Phoenix, who had their entire squad available.

Did the Mariners care? They won 4-1.

Perth Glory with heavily undermanned team beat Melbourne City away 3-1.

One month ago Adelaide beat WS Wanderers in Sydney, 2-1 in the cup semifinal.

Adelaide are playing good football and the Wanderers have a new coach, and this is his only second game at the helm.
Maybe he didn't have enough time to get his players used to his new style.

None of these two teams had a clean sheet this season.

I think that Adelaide deserves a little more respect, and I also think that we will have quite a few goals.
However, I won't bet them to win, as the bookies might know something...

Smaller stakes...

Bet 1: Adelaide (+0.25) @1.80

Bet 2: Total goals over 2.5 & BTTS Yes @2.10 (alternatively over 2.5 goals @1.85)

So many red cards this week, effect a little bit to result ... anyway, Adelaide United done good job. It would be perfect if Baba Diawara not missed a penalty.

...and they hit the post another time too... plus so many other chances, but the red card factor was damaging too indeed
