Default Wimbledon Warm-up Tournaments

ATP Hertogenbosch

Seppi vs G Muller

I think Muller should win this on grass. Last year he played the final here.

Mannarino vs A Zverev

After the surprising first round exit at the French Open, following an excellent clay court season, Zverev is back in action on a surface that should be more suitable to his game.
For a player of his calibre it would be just too much to register a consecutive first round exit.

Mahut vs Benneteau

Mahut's got much better results on grass and I think he'll win this encounter.
He won this tournament last year, defeating Muller in the final.

ATP Stuttgart

Hanfmann vs M Zverev

I'm banking on Mischa's experience on grass here.

Johnson vs Kohlschreiber

Both play very well on grass, and both are coming in relatively good form into this match, after winning their respective matches in the first round.

Federer vs Haas

Federer is coming after a long break, skipping the clay season altogether. Not once after a long break he dropped a set or even the match, and these two guys played against each other 16 times.

I expect a slightly longer match here, as Federer shakes off the rust, and Haas did beat Federer on grass before, or at least took sets from him.

Struff vs Pouille

Pouille has been doing better than Struff this year, while on grass he reached the Quarter-Final at Wimbledon last year.

I consider A Zverev + Federer @1.36 a banker. I'll use this for any multiples that I may build tonight.

My bets for tonight are:

Federer vs Haas over 21 games @2.10

Mannarino vs A Zverev Zverev -3.5 @1.95

Johnson vs Kohlschreiber Over 2.5 sets @2.37/ Over 23.5 games @1.92

German Sausage BBQ

A Zverev + M Zverev + Federer @1.71

Sausage Sizzle

A Zverev + Fed + Muller @2.05

A Zverev + Fed + Pouille @2.21

A Zverev + Fed + Mahut + M Zverev @2.13

A Zverev + Fed + Muller + Pouille + Mahut @4.16

German Beer & French Wine

A Zverev + M Zverev + Pouille + Mahut @3.25

Hertogenbosch

Karlovic vs Kozlov

Karlovic is very good on grass. He won in Newport last year.
Kozlov has not impressed on grass, he hardly has a few wins. Add to that the difference in quality and experience, both in Karlovic’s favour.

Cilic vs Tipsarevic

Cilic leads Tipsarevic h2h 7-2, with one meeting on grass, last year in London, where Cilic won 6-4 6-2.
Tipsarevic doesn’t play much on grass, and has average results on the surface.
Cilic played three consecutive quarter-finals at Wimbledon, losing two times to Djokovic and last year to Federer in a 5-setter including 2 tie-breaks.

Pospisil vs Dolgo

Difficult to set these two players apart, they have had similar results on grass, and coming into this match they appear to be both in good form.

Rojer/Tecau vs Sa/Venus

Rojer/Tecau are a very good doubles pair, well established among the top doubles in the rankings.
They won Wimbledon two years ago.

Babos/Hlavackova vs Cibulkova/Flipkens

Babos/Hlavackova started to play together this year and they’ve had great success, with a tournament win in Rabat, and had good results at other tournaments.
Cibulkova/Flipkens have played together once in a while, not regularly, and they haven’t had any results worthy of mention.

Stuttgart

Berdych vs Tomic

All their previous encounters have been long matches, and the only one that ended in a straight sets win, included a tie-breaker.

Chardy vs Lopez

Lopez met Chardy only once on grass, 3 years ago at Eastbourne, when he won in 2 sets. Lopez is a very good grass-court player, having reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon three times, his strongest Grand Slam performance.
Chardy had his best performances on hard and clay courts.

My bets for tonight are:

Babos/Hlavackova + Karlovic + Cilic @1.88

Rojer/Tecau + Lopez @1.80

Cilic vs Tipsarevic Cilic -4.0 @1.96

Karlovic vs Kozlov -1.5 sets @1.91/ Under 24.5 games @1.88 (split stake)

Pospisil vs Dolgo Over 2.5 sets @2.37/ Over 23 games @1.86 (split stake)

Berdych vs Tomic Over 2.5 sets @2.62/ Over 23 games @1.82 (split stake)

Benneteau vs A Zverev

Zverev to win this - he's too good and will go up higher in the rankings.

Cilic vs Pospisil

Cilic to win this - he is much better than Pospisil and his serve is very good for this surface.

Berdych vs Lopez

Both are very good on grass - expect long match.

Haas vs M Zverev

This is Zverev's favourite surface and he is in very good form.
Haas has just beaten Federer.
Both players can hold serve with ease - expect long match.

My bets for tonight are:

Muller + Zverev + Karlovic @2.34

Cilic + Zverev + Karlovic @2.06

Kohlschreiber vs Pouille Over 23 @1.85

Berdych vs Lopez Over 23 @1.84

Haas vs M Zverev Over 23 @1.85

Paire vs Janowicz Over 23 @1.81

Just some thoughts for tonight. Bets later.

ATP Stuttgart

M Zverev vs F Lopez

Both players are left handed.
I came across some info that Zverev had problems with left handed players in the past. He is 0-2 against Nadal (ok, let's say it's Nadal), 0-2 vs Klizan and 0-2 vs Vesely.

Lopez leads H2H 3-0, winning all 6 sets they played.
Lopez is serving very well at this tournament, so I think this one will be short.

L Pouille vs B Paire

Both players play very well on grass. Pouille has better performances on this surface, including Wimbledon quarter-finals last year.

ATP s-Hertogenbosch

G Muller vs A Zverev

Zverev won 3 titles this year and easily beat his opponents this week.
Zverev is too good and he will very likely win the title here.

Cilic vs Karlovic

Karlovic has blasted his way through the tournament with his booming serve.

Cilic however is no pushover even in front of big servers.
However he lost 2 of his 5 matches against Karlovic so far.

if karlovic can hold serve this can go over easily, ofcourse we cant know in advance how players will feel on court, like mine pod bet on Mayer where i expected of him to play his game, when i saw his body language on court and his facial expression i knew that bet is lost. Cilic as i said has many weapons, and he is very capable to hold his serve

*Croats, well as expected long match, as for other things i have no words...
*Zverev, well, Muller is always dangerous on moments, how many times we saw "old tour" players explode(like Haas vs fedex) and destroy "better"ranked, i mean, this is hard to predict but if you can see behind all the beauty well, you might catch some great odds.
ps. how many times we saw also after great win comes the great lose(like haas again)so maybe against Muller next day hmmm
other bets went well...

Hertogenbosch - Final

Karlovic vs Muller

These two players met two times last year on grass, semifinal here and final in Newport.
They won one match each.
They played 5 sets.
Guess how many tie-breakers?... Exactly!
Five tie-breakers.

Obvious overs bet here, including first set tie-break or tie-break in match.

Stuttgart - Final

Lopez vs Pouille

These two players met last year two times, in Vienna and Paris, each winning one match, both times in three sets.

Overs bet here.

I'll also put some beer money on an overs double for these two finals.

Thanks quill for your tennis post, but please write the line, when you write about overs. 1.7x on over 26 in Bosch doesn't sound interesting to me

Sorry about this zizqo, in this instance I was not at my desk, I was on the streets all day, not too comfortable to search for odds, but I wanted to give my opinion on what I thought the bets should be.

Both matches were very long in the end, they had the expected tie-breakers so if you took the combo for overs you'd have made some nice money.

My bets for tonight:

Kohlschreiber + Kyrgios + Edmund + Thiem @2.27

Kohlschreiber + Tsonga + Strycova @2.08

Tsonga + Kyrgios + Thiem @1.87

Kyrgios + Cornet @1.85

Young vs Kyrgios Kyrgios -3.5 @1.67

J Sousa vs Kohlschreiber Kohlschreiber -4.5 @2.05

Berdych vs Darcis Berdych -4.5 @2.10

Monfils vs Gasquet Gasquet to win @2.20

I think that Gasquet is better than Monfils on grass surfaces. He reached the semifinals at Wimbledon two times, while Monfils has never made it beyond the 3rd round.

Marterer vs Thiem Thiem -4.0 @1.95

Edmund vs Shapovalov Edmund -3.5 @1.90

I think its very cynical to comment other peoples picks and their writeup's in POD, and then come here, post a zillion picks and give absolutely no explanation. We have livescore for this...

It would be nice to see the bookmaker, odds and stake in your tip, but it's not necessary - a good prediction is the key. Your reasoning can have one sentence as well as four pages of A4 format.

- we had some discussion lately is it good if a member writes only "Davydenko will win today!" and Davydenko wins.
Maybe, but not on this forum.
There are dozens of other forums who highly appreciate such picks, this one is not among them.

- you don't have to write a book about your pick, just state in a few sentences explaining the reasons for betting on it. Any valuable info, stats, trends, thoughts are highly welcome.

If you do not have any reason, and are betting just for fun(or with your "feeling", or a friend told you what to bet, and you have no reason for it), save your (and our) time - do not post anything, at least not in the daily topics.

I don't give wrong or misleading info - that's what people do in POD.

Look at my previous posts in this thread, most of the same players have been covered, and I explained.

None of them have had kids in the meantime.

Nishikori vs Khachanov

Khachanov is coming up strong, he beat Simon in the previous round, but Nishikori is a big step up in competition for him.

Youzhny vs Rublev

Youzhny is in good form coming into this match. After going through the qualifying rounds, he beat Karlovic in 2 sets, and not only that, he broke Ivo's serve in the first set, before taking the second in a tie-breaker.

Rublev beat Ramos (a clay-courter) in the first round, but now facing The Colonel on grass (great 31-16 W-L record and QF at Wimbledon) is an entirely different matter.

F Mayer vs Pouille

Pouille is in great form coming from a tournament win in Stuttgart and a first round win against Struff.
Mayer beat Paire in 2 sets in the first round, but he will have a difficult match against an in-form Pouille.

Thompson vs Querrey

Thompson is playing well on grass. As a lucky loser he took full advantage of the opportunity and beat Murray in 2 sets, never losing his serve and breaking Murray twice.
He can certainly win a set against Querrey.

Medvedev vs Kokkinakis

Kokkinakis has improved since returning from injury, and although he just lost to Medvedev last week in Hertogenbosch in two sets, he showed great composure against Raonic, saving all of the 9 break points that the Canadian had.

Both players are good on serve and the surface at Queen's has been very fast this week.
The nice weather in London helps for an overs bet.

Chardy vs Lopez

These two players met two times on grass, both times with Lopez as winner. Last time they met was one week ago in Stuttgart, 2-1 to Lopez.
In the first round here, Lopez beat Wawrinka in 2 sets.
Chardy is 4-1 on grass this season, however his wins came against lower ranked players (Corrie, Thompson, Mayer), whereas Lopez defeated Simon, Berdych, Wawrinka.
Considering the form he is in now, Lopez can win this tournament.

Federer vs M Zverev
Cilic vs Kozlov

Federer and Cilic - glaring obvious bets.

The Aussie Barbie menu for tonight:

Federer + Cilic + Lopez @1.83

Youzhny + Nishikori + Federer @2.55

Pouille + Cilic + Lopez @2.65

Nishi + Fed + Cilic + Lopez @2.42

Cilic -4.5 @1.79
Thompson +3.0 @1.89
Thompson +1.5 sets @1.93
Kokkinakis win @2.45
Kokkinakis +2.5 @1.79
Medvedev vs Kokkinakis Over 23.5 @2.00
