Maguire has been looking very scrappy - not convincing in the least. Plus Perry also plays good safety. Yes, I'd agree with you on that pick.

Nice. And I will avoid Murphy, King really plays strong snooker right now.
Of the other two i will surely take Day to beat Joyce on handicap and will skip Guild, cause O`Sullivan will win but i dont trust him on handicap.

Well, I reckon Murphy will beat King but I am not sure about the HC. 6-4 would be my call. You're probably right though - no value there.

The funny thing about Maguire is that he's looked inconsistent this season. In the games I saw he also looked scrappy, for example against Dott although he won. But at the same time, he makes some big breaks. He really goes from hero to zero from one frame to another so it should be an interesting match tomorrow...

Perry was up 59-0 in the first frame but managed to give it away. Now Maguire is up in the 2nd frame. Let's see if Perry's nerves hold given that he's got such a poor h2h against Maguire which may impact on his state of mind...

Almost 3-5. But you're up against it if you start your rally once you're 5-0 down.

Of course, he woke up to late.
3-6 at the end, did not help us a lot though

The same thing at Ronnie v Guild, will be 3-5 now after 0-5

I decided not to take Day, handicap odds are crap, -2,5 I dont dare to take.
So, I will watch and think about semifinals.

When it comes to Maguire vs. Sullivan, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I haven't really been convinced by Maguire but on the the other hand, he's scored some high breaks and to be frank Ronny hasn't looked that convincing either. He certainly didn't deserve to get past Akani and Gould was unlucky not to take some more frames off him. So I think that we will quite possibly see more than 9.5 frames played in this match. Maguire will certainly be very motivated, if he beats Ronny and makes the final, he will qualify for the Masters early next year.

In the 2nd match today, I like Shawn Murphy. Ryan Day has now played 3 consecutive deciders - against Williams, Li Hang and Joyce and to be frank, he could easily have exited in all of those matches. So he's been very lucky to get to where he is and I wonder how much energy he's got left after 3 tough battles. Meanwhile Shawn Murphy has only dropped 5 frames in his last 3 matches and he's in form. Murphy's scoring is looking very good and his long potting has been great. Thus, I think Shawn will make it without having to go to a decider. I am taking Shawn Murphy (-1.5) at 1.8.

I am also taking Shawn Murphy to win the tournament at 4. I am not sure that Ronny will make it past Maguire but if he does, he won't have an easy match against Shawn Murphy. Shawn Murphy to win this thing at 4 is real value.

What's your take, Macot?

You've done a great job and I really appreciate you taking the time to post and explain your picks. Although I watched snooker in the past, it was through you that I started betting on it. And it's been easier for me to figure out than soccer or some other team sport where you have more variables involved. So thanks again, keep up the great work and don't let anyone that hasn't contributed anything to the forum detract you!

Thanks for nice thoughts. I have posted my pick on the main site after long consideration and it is murphy to win. If he manages accuracy he showed here he will win. The problem is he is pretty one dimensional and if his weapon leaves him stranded ronnie will rip him apart. But since odds are as they are and i dont have the guts to go against shaun the only logical choice is shaun.. btw two english players of irish descent.

I am even more convinced about Murphy`s chances now when I watch Ronnie against Maguire. He was giving too many chances, but Maguire was not able to take them. So it will be only a matter of taking chances when they come along.

I can see many interesting games in the first round of Scottish Open, that already starts tomorrow!
Will open a separate thread for that.

"It is always tough to go against Ronnie, but what Murphy is showing right now is top class snooker. He is very dependent on his accuracy on long shots as he risks a lot and plays ultra attacking snooker. But at the moment his shots go in up to 90% which is fantastic. This way he can easily gain advantage over Ronnie.
On the other side, we need to understand that Ronnie will make his 2-3 centuries and will be behind Murphy all the time. But if Murphy plays like he did so far, he can win this.
The fear I have is, Ronnie will set him trap, give him long shots which Murphy under pressure would miss. That would destroy his game and Ronnie would dispose of him easily. But these days, Murphy looks so confident I will give him my confidence!
My call is Murphy 9-7!
GL"

It's best of 19 i think One question - the 1st session from 8 frames or 9? Thanks

GL

Thank you for correction... I tried to find it but could not...
Normally first session is 8 frames in best of 17 and 9 frames in best of 19 so probably it would be 9...

Murphy started with a centruy, this is a kind of Shaun we need and if he keeps such efficiency we will win.

After a great first frame, Murphy started to show his gray side: he risks too much and dont know how to wait or play more tactically and when he misses he is gone.

Unfortunately it is like i feared. Murphy of course can not make every shot and of course there is no plan B in his game. Ronnie started to play with him and setting traps and Murphy mug is falling flat...
2-4
Still enough time, but that is not good.

Yes, Murphy came back again, stole one more frame for 4-4, which looked like a certainty for Ronnie.
That is perfect.

Shaun is missing too many long balls to keep up with Ronny. He performs well when he hits the long balls well, when not it's tough for him to compete with someone like Ronny.

Exactly, he is too onedimensional so I am afraid this won`t end well...
