Well, always tricky betting in the openning round and against a newcomer, but I really fancy Everton to start their new campaign in a different manner, compared to last season. Back then expectations were pretty high after the great 2004-2005 campaign and the 4th place, but Everton stumbled big time and it took long time to get back on track. Finished 11th last season and wasnt so bad taking in mind their horrible start. Now nobody expects them to do miracles and there isnt such pressure on the team. In the same time after the break they look quite a complete team to me and I really fancy them having a good season. No doubt bringing AJ in quite an expensive deal shows they mean business after releasing long time player Duncan Ferguson. They also got tim Howard from Man Utd and its almost sure he will start at goal. Snapped also Wolves highly rated defender Joleon Lescott. All are quality signings IMO and now the team is having a good depth and is completely ready to start. Only injury trouble is Tony Hibbert, who is expected to miss until the end of the month. So most probably Neville will take his place in defense. Shouldnt really be a problem as he has been playing at this position almost his entire carreer.

Midfield looks quite strong to me, maybe bringing another pacey winger would do good, but as I said its strong enough. I really expect Arteta to make his best season since he joined Everton. Attack looks great too with most probably AJ and Beattie starting and McFadden doing the cover. 1 more striker wouldnt heart, but Anichebe is a great prospect, so IMO they have enough fire power.

Watford stunned everyone last season. They were expected to have a mediocre season with a mid table finish at most, but proved all pundits wrong. Great young manager, who maybe isnt the best tactician on earth, but surely knows how to fire up his squad. They always play good, attacking football and is a pleasure to watch. This will not change tomorrow and I dont think theyll sit and defend for 90 minutes. Best transfer they made was the rock solid QPR defender Shittu, who will take his place in the center of Hornets defense. They also brought some young and promissing players, but will mainly rely on last yars squad with the exception of Shittu of course. Now there is no need to explain how big is the difference between the Championship and the Premiership. Its huge. I really like Watford, admire their managers passion and attack minded football, but IMO they might struggle in this league. Marlon King will surely be a constant threat for every defense, but dont expect him to score 22 goals again. Everton is solid in the back, has a creative midfield and much improved attack compared to last season. I will back them in this first round with a medium bet.

Everton 6/10 @ 1.70 interwetten

1 more thing is that watford didnt sell their nearly 4 000 tickets and only 1800-200 Hornets fan are expected to show at the game. Quite a shame for an openning round in Premiership and I cant really understand this as their team fought so brave to get here.

agree with zzax, the onus is on Everton and with a decent home record under Moyes, it should continue and this season they shall be 'a surprise package' competing for European places right until the end.
Beattie and Johnson will score plenty this season, and AMA will back Everton in most instances on the a/h this campaign because long run we believe it will have many positive results.

Watford will make many enjoyable games this season and on the odd occassion will prove to be formidable opponents, fighting against relegation and with some occasional hopes of 15th, 16th -10th type of finish, but ultimately will prove fodder for most teams with solid home records.

Joleon Lescott, Andrew Johnson and Tim Howard will all start as debutants.
Everton manager David Moyes:
"I hope everybody is ready.

"You will not be able to tell until the ball starts rolling but I think we were ready last week to be honest.

"We are at home and intend to use that to our advantage but Watford's last competitive game was the play-off final and they will bring a feelgood factor with them."

Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd:
"It makes it easier to get players in if you start well.

"People are fickle, and think they won't join a certain club if they don't do well straight away.

"People like evidence and like to be able to believe in what is happening."

So, in other words the Watford manager is hoping his players play well to attract other players to what, in all truth, means they would take their positions. Contrary, Watfords players wont think this way and will be aware of their managers pre-season excuses, which might just be a sidescreen but for now we oppose.
Watford might prove a surprise package, but for now we oppose and fancy Everton.

small stakes, Everton straight win.

Agree with what's been said above.
Not only are Everton a good bet tomorrow, I think they're a value better bet to 'win the league without the top 4' @ 13.0 (E/W).

I actually expect the Watford game to be a tough one for Everton, to be honest. But I do see a Watford win.

Here's my official preview.
Pick: Everton
Stake: 6/10
Odds: 1.7 (betsafe)

Everton to my mind are set to a genuine force in the league this season. Throughout their pre-season tour of the states, and the games in Scotland they showed glimpses of what we can expect from them over the coming season.
The one real concern is wether they will be able to produce the goals. Time will tell - but I suspect a rejuvinated Davies, Kilbane, McFadden and if he gets his act together, Van Der Meyde should produce the chances for Beattie and Johnson, who should make a very effective, physical pairing.

Everton have considerable strength in depth. But the middle of the park is where I like them most. To my mind, Arteta and Cahill in particular and Carsley and Neville as well, offer a lot of quality.

Watford are a side that I have a lot of time for. They've come up against all expectations, and I think it's entirely possible that they surprise a few people, this season. But, I can't see them doing it at the Goodison. Everton have too much quality. 1.7 is a fair price for Everton, here.

1.74 betfair, for Everton, is a more then fair price.
Of course, its impossible to be sure, but AMA believes in 3 months time finding 1.74 for an Everton home win against a relgation candidate will be nigh on impossible to find.

Arteta, according to all pre-season reports, is about to embark on a wonderful campaign, backed up by vice-captain Phil Neville doing the donkey work, here we have an effective partnership which will afford the likes of Cahill, Beattie and Johnson namely to score an abundance of goals.
Lescott and Yobo will make a solid partnership, and Moyes will make a great candidate for manager of the season, possibly, again.

Everton have high hopes, and quietly, they have spent decent money in the last 18 months. Van Der Meyde makes many promises, hopefully he can keep, and with his crosses, Cahill behind and on them, Beattie on them, and Johnson running, with Arteta on the set pieces with Neville, Everton will make an effective, if unsatisfying team.

Bets are win through effectiveness, not beauty. Everton @ 1.74, repeated.

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure that it won't be Watford who can make a surprise! They are clearly the worst team in the league and actually way behind the likes of Reading and even Sheff Utd IMO. If someone can make an impact it will be Reading but at the moment it looks like that none of the promoters won't be staying up...

I think Everton is one of the best bets today overall. They have great midfield and very much motivated team. Offensively Everton is looking good and I think AJ & Beattie will deliver the goods sooner than later!

My estimation:

Everton - Watford 59,1 % 27,0 % 13,9 %

Everton was very good at home last season. Also i watched Watford on play-off's. I think this team will be the worst team in premier leauge this season.

sorry I saw more than enough in that game and watford over last season that they certainly aren't the worst team in that league. Everton got a bit lucky but they should be top half this season and watford not impossible for them to stay up. King is a real threat upfront.
