Colorado State-New Mexico OVER 57
Our official outlaw line sees this as a total that should be 61. Unless there are a few long sustained scoring drives or redzone turnovers, I can’t see too many defensive stops. New Mexico should be able to move the ball as well or better than Wyoming a week ago. CSU has shown a weakness against passing teams with decent running attacks and the Lobos run the ball better than Wyoming. The Rams have given up at least one big play through the air in each game and quarterback Casey Kelly and wide receiver Dwight Counter will take advantage by going deep until CSU can stop them.

Kelly is playing his best ball of the year without any question.

New Mexico has the league’s best 1-2 threat at tailback with DonTrell Moore and D.D. Cox. CSU’s defense is still trying to figure out what happened at Wyoming. If the Rams can’t start forcing turnovers, CSU could be in for a long night. New Mexico has the best offensive line in the MWC so we look for CSU to take risks on defense which means either quick scoring drives or quick drives period.

If CSU lets New Mexico grind it out, they are playing into their strength. On offense, CSU can’t afford to grind it out as the Lobos are great at stopping the run and horrible at stopping the pass.. The Lobos are last in the Mountain West Conference, yielding 267.8 yards a game. CSU will be able to exploit the secondary and New Mexico’s good pass rush will be nullified by the great scrambling ability of Bradlee Van Pelt.

CSU is very balanced on offense as no team this year has shut down the run and pass. Their running game has returned to health and that will keep New Mexico off guard.

Both teams will air it out and with success. We look for about 70 points in this one.
