1.15 WTF?! do not see a value in straigth home win..
Why? Do you think that Maccabi has any chance to get one point? LOL
ok maybe i'm a little bit biased, however Haifa is not some welsh semi amateur club.. They have many good players and they coming to play on a draw, this is clear. And Liverpool don't seems to be such strong for 1.15..

I am thinking aroung 1.30 Liverpool 8)

Haifa players will try to play 100% but will they not be totally focused
with what is happening in their own country??? :(

Liverpool have their best ever squad in the last 15 years,
Excellent additions (Bellamy, Gonzalez and Aurelio)
Liverpool are very, very hard to beat at Anfield, my only concern is
lack of match fitness, but Liverpool are playing a team who have not started their league either so that cancels that out! :P

Liverpool should beat this team easily and will hope not to concede a goal.
I fancy them to win 2-0 and then we will have the lottery of an away game against Isreali team in Ukraine or Slovenia!!!

Haifa didn't look good against Natania but in the club no one gets excited.
Toto Cup certainly isn't in high priority to M. Haifa and the're now very focused in the match against Liverpool.
I don't think that the bombing here will infulence the players. All their family has been transfered to Tel-Aviv and is in now danger.
On liverpool I know nothing, but I do know that they look very bad lately - 5-0 loss to Mainz
On paper Liverpool should take this match easily but I can't see value on 1.15

Liverpool's defence has looked shaky in pre-season and Maccabi Haifa will hope to profit when they visit Anfield on Wednesday. Their captain Yaniv Katan will make his first appearance for the Israeli champions since returning to the club after six quiet months at West Ham and his partner in attack will be Roberto Colautti, an Argentina-born forward who has just had a residency application fast-tracked so he is eligible to play for Israel in their Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Haifa have been forced to train for the match against Liverpool at a hotel in Caesarea, a coastal town 25 miles from Tel Aviv and 40 miles from war-affected Haifa. While the Israeli players head back to Haifa after training, the foreign players return to the safety of Tel Aviv. 'The preparations have not been ideal but we've done the best we can,' said coach Roni Levy.

In the last years Haifa has a really bad luck in Champions Leage qualifying.
They always very closed to qualify, but they lose it in the final moment.
Haifa hopes that the luck will get better this year.

Haifa lost two good players this season, The capitan Arik Benado left Haifa because he wanted higher salary and Idan Tal pass to Bolton.
Maccabi bought two good players - Elen Masudi and one Brazilan that I forgot his name , also Yaniv Katan return to the team after ubsuccessful year in Westham.

Haifa has a very good attack but also problems in the defece.
The experienced defender, Adoram Keisi is injured and his substitute is the weak in Haifa's defence.

Dont worry about the situation in Israel , Haifa's players are very focused on this much and they will play their 100%.

I think you should wait to see the Asian Handicap.
IF you will find:

Liverpool (-2.5) - Maccabi Hafia (+2.5) or more..
HAIFA IS sure win..

Liverpool (-1.5) - Maccbi Haifa (+1.5)
I think Haifa need to win this.. 65%

Well, here in israel the local bookie is offering 1.10 for a home win of Liverpool.

But don't forget that liverpool has lost the home match in Anfield in the third round of the qulifing in the last two years.

Round 3 Liverpool CSKA Sofia 0:1 (0:1, 0:0) details 23.08.2005
Round 3 Liverpool - GAK Graz 0:1 1.25 4.77 9.12 24.08.2004

Although both of this matches were the 2nd matches. Liverpool have qulify vs CSKA and vs GAK, because they have won in Austria and Bulgaria impressively.

This match is diffrent beacuse it is the first match and Liverpool must get an advantage for the 2nd match. Therefore it will be hard to see Liverpool not winning here, but who knows, I'm considering of betting Maccabi Haifa to win exactly 1-0 with a small change, because of the results mentioned above.

I wouldnt pay to much attention to the result against Mainz. I think 4 of the goals were conceded when the defence was the 2nd string team.

Carson was in goals and the back four was Kromkap Paletta Hobbes Traore. None of these lads will get on the team. I think its a definite home win.

Liverpool @ 1.15 is a probable sure bet to me. I know i probably sound hypocritical in saying this. I don't care about any pre-season games like the 5-1 loss to Mainze. We all know that Liverpool are masters in the Champions League competition. They take there game to a new level, and they have many new signings.

Rafa Benitez remembered all of his players to not take Maccabi lightly.

He was coach of Valencia in 2003 in 2nd round of UEFA cup and Maccabi managed to draw first leg away.

Don't touch this game, you can only regret it later. I really don't have a clue about O/U and I wouldn't touch any kind of HC here. Liverpool haven't really taken all those friendly matches seriously, but expect an attitude change in this game.

However, they're still not in full contention, as most Premiership teams aren't, and it's very tough to forecast anything here. Liverpool can win 1:0 or they can trash Maccabi 4:0, really quite tough call. Frankly, I don't see a surprise by Maccabi here, not at Anfield at least. Not every game is bettable, I honestly think there are too many "ifs" in this game and the odds are too low to risk anything.

Yeah but Crouch is not the entire Liverpool offense...
Furthermore he's not a goal scorer but hard to handle for every defense and certainly has more quality than the average forward the Maccabi defense has to cope with in their home league. When people talk about Crouch they only look at his goal scoring record and think he's average. Well, just based on that they're right. But they don't consider the huge amount of goals he helps to set up and the number of freekicks around the box he's winning...
Although I personally don't believe in a real thrashing (4+ goals) and agree that this is rather a no-bet (or high + AHC on Maccabi if anything) I certainly think the likes of Gerrard, Alonso, Garcia, Pennant, Bellamy are more than capable of putting 4 past the Maccabi keeper, which is why I'm going to skip this one. Simply too unpredictable.

Benitez is likely to use his first team, however Gonzalez, Agger, Fowler and Aurelio are injured or just returned from injury/not fully fit and probably won't play.

Yep Liverpool might not have all the money to buy Shevchenko or Henry, but they have players that can score, especially against Maccabi. Fowler (probably won't play though), Bellamy, even Crouch for that matter, even though I said numerous times he's not that much of a scorer, more of a setup player, but guys like Garcia, Gerrard, they can score. Signings like Gonzalez, Pennant, Agger, etc might not hit the CNN headlines but they're solid signings.

Plus Liverpool won CL with not that much different team in 2005., so I wouldn't be that ****y to underestimate them that much.

Very well said but try to explain this to sensation hungry instant fans, they don't care if Aurelio is a good signing or not, or if Agger might be the new Hyypia in years to come, they just hear "Real Madrid brought Van Nisterlooy, Chelsea brought Shevchenko".

Then another CL or FA semifinal will come and everyone will be soooooo surprised that Liverpool kicked out Chelsea. Again.

That's how it is nowadays, instant, fickle fans. No devotion, no ability to analyze, to watch the actual game. Just names. These kind of football fans are obsessed and impressed how much money some player earns. You know, opens up the newspaper and wooooooow 1 million per week.

Wow.

Glad to see not everyone are like that. Cheers.

Liverpool - Maccabi Haifa FC

Pick: Liverpool(-2) Odds: 2.02
Bookmaker: Pinnacle Sports

Champions League qualifications,third round!
Ex-champions Liverpool start their first official game of the season against Maccabi Haifa from Israel.
Surprisingly, the general opinion favours the visitors here! And the main reason seems to be some poor friendly games played by the english side recently.IMO this is a clear example of misrepresentationing reality and facts becouse we cannot compare an official game with a friendly by any means.
Liverpool is not only a big name in Europe.Benitez made up a real team composed by world class players, totally able to progress in the next round. And the first step would be a win on their ground, more likely by more than one goal.
Near quality, motivation is always an essential affair and I strongly believe Benitez's men are conversant with it.The Liverpool coach still remembers the time he was at Valencia being held to a goalless draw at home in Spain by the same israelian team.I am convinced he will not repeat the mistake.
Have you ever asked yourself why UEFA Cup is more often won by small/average clubs while Champions League almost only by the "big boys"?If you don't know the answer yet let me tell you something:There are two diffirent club competitions and where more money are(hint*:Champions League) more concern is!More easy:Liverpool is not motivated,Liverpool is extra-motivated for this encounter! And usually when a much better team is motivated and still plays on their ground, well it is more than probably to end in a clear big home win.
Speaking about missings Liverpool will be without Fowler and Aurelio while Mark Gonzalez and Danny Agger are doubts.New signings Craig Bellamy and Jermaine Pennant could make their debuts.
Despite these missings Benitez possesses many other good players able to play at the same level at least.
Maccabi Haifa might resist in the first half but by time they are expected to struggle, first of all physically.
Benitez won't be happy with only a one goal margin and in fact I don't know how this would be possible as the diffirence is way too big.Anything but a home win by 2 goals at least would be a big surprise for me but I feel Liverpool could really thrash poor israelian side.
Having the stake back if they win by exactly 2 goals I can see very good value here as I repeat:3,4,5-0 is really not out of question and more probably than you think.
Note:I am not a Liverpool fan and I don't back them just becouse they are favourites. It is only becouse I believe the odds below are too good to be missed.

Haifa will play with their best 11, in a 4-4-2 formation:

Davidovich; Harazi, Keinan, Olarra, Megralashvili; Dirsao, Anderson, Bokoli, Masudi; Katan, Colautti;

Haifa's main problem is their defence. Keinan and Megralashvili have no experience playing in this level and this could cause some problems for them. In midfield Haifa will play with Dirsao and Anderson in the center and Bokoli and Masudi in the wings. This seems to be an open formation, but i'm sure Haifa will defend most of the time and Katan will probably play as a fifth midfielder. If Liverpool will play with long ball style it will be easier for them to score since i belive Haifa's defence will make some mistakes in this game. Passing style will suite Haifa more, since their attacking players are very technical, especially Masudi.
Liverpool's results in friendly games were not impressive at all, and the two games lost in Anfield against Sofia and Graz in previous years are factors we should consider. Liverpool is a big favourite in this game of course, but i think the odds are pretty fair. Liverpool has about 80-85% chances to win this game, so i don't think it's worth taking them in odds like 1.15-1.17.

Well, I'm not so sure about Liverpool.
Generally, the attacking was be weakened by the left of Morientes and Cisse.
the defence don't look very convincing with to slow sweepers (Hyppia & Carragher).

Any way, Rafa should concern about some Haifa player like Alain Masudi (left attacking midfielder), Gustavo Boccoli(right attacking midfielder) , Xavier Dirceu (defensive midfielder) and Roberto Colautti (stricker)

I advice you to stay away from this bet,it's doesn't look like very safty bet.

Disagree with both these points. Morientes and Cisse were both terrible for Liverpool. We are a much better attacking force then last year. They never got going for Liverpool and will not be missed at all.

Carragher and hyppia are both excellent. They might not be fast, but they dont need to be. 2nd best defence record in the premiership last season.

really who exactly is considering a bet on this. Liverpool offer no value, but should win this one. We all thought the same about shocks on the arsenal game last night and they came through quite easily, these are top teams and in the top games should have enough. THe small home odds make this a no bet but don't underestimate liverpool as many of you seem to be. Bellamy is a great addition to this squad, as are gonzales and pennant down the flanks. Liverpool might be slow out of the blocks and cause a few problems but over the two legs I see little that makes me think this could ever be a shock.

The odds on Liverpool here are ridiculously low as low as they would be if they were playing the bottom team in the Premiership. Are Maccabi Haifa that bad? I don't think they are. However there are few shocks at this round of champions league qualifying so im not pushed on backing Haifa but i will go with Under 2.5 at around 13/10 as with this being Pool's first competitive match of the season they might take a while to click into gear and Maccabi will surely try to keep it tight early on.

You can dislike Liverpool if you want but to say that Morientes and Cisse "WEAKENED" the team you are dead wrong here buddy.

Had you watched Liverpool more instead of just relying on newspapers and the fact that Morientes and Cisse are both studs in Pro Evolution Soccer 5 you would know that these two have been piss poor throughout the season. Cisse had some solid games (not nearly enough though) while Morientes maybe had 2 good games out of at least 2 dozen he had played.

To say Hyypia is slow well that's true since he's not that young any more, but Carragher ?!??!?!

Do you remember the scene in Champions league semis when in the 84th minute (Carra played the whole game) he OUTRAN Arjen Robben who had just entered the pitch 3 mins ago, and was supposed to be fresh.

Carra is an absolutely splendid defender and one of the backbones of Liverpool FC.

However, I do agree with you that betting on huge favourites at this point, when they're not at their best, and at these odds, I don't find that appealing either.
