My first pick is on MK Dons at home with Bury. Despite getting relegated future looks good for the dons at the present moment. Made probably the best transfer in this league landing Martin Allen to guide them to immediate promotion. Also signed some good players and kept their top players from last year. Mcleod will be a huge weapon upfront in this division and I fully expect him to overcome the 20 goals mark this year. Solid expectations and a win at their first game infront of their fans will be a boost no doubt.
Bury arent having the best of preparations and are lacking goals again. This was their main problem last year, when they scored 44 goals with only 3 teams scoring less goals than them. A poor last friendly against Conference side Southport and all this tells me they arent fully ready yet. Bury played with close to best line up and showed nothing. Slow play, only long balls, low fitness levels.
But they signed last year conference torpedo Andy Bishop, who scored 24 goals in all competitions for York. great signing IMO and whats more he came for free, but he is still to adapt at Bury, failing to impress in the preseason.
All in all it will be a huge surprise for me if the Dons fail to start on a positive note. Odds arent great as expected, but this is a L1 team against a bottom L2 team situation IMO.
MK Dons 7/10 @1.65 interwetten
Darlington to beat Macclesfield is my second pick for this league. The hosts have improved greatly at least on paper during the summer, but their good preseason campaign makes me think they will justify my trust here. Solid funds have been given for selection and wages and I am sure the results will follow.
Darlington brought some excellent players for this division. First of all they snapped Northamptons Martin Smith - 32 years old and hugely expirienced, who rejected Northampton a new deal and joined Darlo. He is known as striker, but plays great in the midfield too. In the preseason he scored 4 goals for Darlo if I am correct and all came from midfield position. A great signing for this division.
Another signing is Barry Conlon. Few seasons ago he left Darlington and played mainly at Barnsley. Quality forward with lots to offer for this club.
Michae Cummins is a transfer hit. The Port Vale midfielder was a target of several L1 clubs and not comfirmed, but reported interest from a Championship side as well. He scores lots of goals from the midfield position and I was very surprised to see him in League 2 this season. Last year scored 11 goals in 39 games for port vale. With him and the other signings I expect Darlington to have one of the strongest and most creative midfields in the League.
Macclesfield were poor travellers last year, recording only 2 wins in 23 away games. Still managed to get 9 draws, but they were the worst away side in the league, with even last placed Rushden winning a point more in their away games. I dont think Maccs will be able to change their tragic away record in such a short time.
All in all darlington has big ambitions for this season, made some quality transfers and a winning start at home is vital for their promotion campaign. They managed to beat Macclesfield last 2 times at home and I fully expect them to do it again.

I think that attention needs to turn in all matches. Can They are being played in some database management system.

wouldn't argue with those first two picks, the rest of the games are very tight, especially with it being start of the season. you seem to know your stuff zzax tend to agree with a lot of your posts, where do you stand on the title race here. I'm on hartlepool at 14/1 with danny wilson as manager, chris turner as director of football they're a side going places, and were very unlucky to go down last season. SAme with wallsall, richard money will prove a shrewd pickup. Wide open this season though and as many as ten or twelve teams could be there or there about's, this wil be reflected in the first month results so caution on the betting stakes put down.
Bury has added another striker on a month loan from Nottingham Forest - Jon Paul Pittman. Young and still unexpirienced, had a short loan spell with Hartlepool before. Not sure whether he is going to take part in the game away at the Dons, but wont be surprised if I see him in action taking in mind Bury current scoring impotence. He has some pace, but we are still to see what he is capable of.
Still I stick firmly to my bet on MK Dons in the first round. 8)
