View Full Version : Pick of the day 27/9
Even though many contestants didn't like the idea, I will let you post 2 picks today (Saturday) and on Sunday. This is because I started the competition late in September (6/9) and I want to give everybody a better chance to complete 15 picks.
Good luck!

Leicester(+1.5)-ManU(-1.5) 2 odds:2.25
leicester has injurie problems and ...and..oh comon they would lose anway  Manchester has CL match next week but with that bench i don`t think that will be a problem. Leicester also played in Curling cup so ..tired a litlle for sure. ManU is playing good atacking football this year and is scoring a lot so i think 0-2 can happen here. Odds are good so why not try. Don`t think Leicester can stop Ronaldo.
Mistro
Hansa R.(+1)-Bayern(-1) 2 odds:2.05
Hansa has 1-2-3 this year and is not so good. Bayern is very good but sliped a litlle in last two games. I don`t think they will have any problems with Herta. They have a lot of Injuries but they like ManU looong bench so it doesen`t matter who plays. I think they will win with two or more.
This is asian handicap.
Mistro
VfL Wolfsburg v Bayer Leverkusen 0 : 0 HOME@ 1.65
Well, Wolfsburg made me some nice profit last weekend and I believe they can sustain it. Good home team (at the moment 3-0-0) with really good players (d'Alessandro, Baiano, Klimowicz, Petrov) is facing very offensively playing Bayer. Bayer is good, but can they win in Wolfsburg? I guess not, but it can be a draw, so I take this 0:0 handicap.
Hi!
These are my first two picks in this competition:
Zwolle-Feynoord A @ 1.50
Well, there's nothin' much to explain about this match. The clash between main relagation candidate and one of the biggest three club in the country. Feynoord always has great goals for every season. If they want to achieve atleast 3 spot of the table on the season end, they need to win the games like this. And I think that they are capable of doing that.
Leicester-Manchester United A @ 1.50
This game is more-less the same as the first one. Mancester United wants to repeat last year success, and it that order they don't need to win every away games. But this they have to win.
My mistake on Zwolle-Feynoord game. It's going to be played on Sunday. Instead of that game, for saturday I would like to post the following pick:
Valencia-Real M. A @ 2.30
Explenation: Well, Real is playing very hot football on the start of this season. Valencia is good too, but nobody can compare them with mighty game of Real Madrid. I've read somewhere that Zidane and Raul could be out, but even so, there are plenty of people who can replace them. So, Real WINS.

Bolton v Wolverhampton 1 1.67
Southampton v Middlesbrough 1 1.80
http://www.bettingadvice.com/showPredictionsLeague.php?idMenu=120
1.Bundesliga:
Hansa Rostock : Bayern (-3/4) – 2 @ 1.90
Bayern has to win this game. They are desperate to get some points here. They already lost once and also have two draws. They are not in tiop form at the moment but they surelly can win in this match. Hansa is not the team that can't be beaten at home. They only won 1 match in first 6 rounds. They will have to wait some more for their second win. Makaay & Co. won't let me down this time like they did against Bayer last week when they only got a draw at home.
English Premier League:
Chelsea : Aston Villa – over 2.5 goals @ 1.71
I don't need to say too much here. Chelsea scored 15 goals in first 5 matches and all their matches finished with 3 or more goals. I also believe that Aston Villa can score at least one goal and that will be enough to win this bet. This is one of the best bets this weekend for me!
Regina v Juventus 1:0 HC----->TAKE X (3.65GB)
Borussia Dort. v SC Freiburg:X (3.60GB)
1)Juventus can dominate the game but they have CHL and wont fight too hard to win Regina
2)Dortmund will not have a lot of key players in the squad and the game will be close!Obviously they have better quality than Freiburg and may make quick goal but i bet against that possibility... :D
GL
Standard Liege - La Louviere ht/ft 1/1 at 2.05
I wrote more info about this game here http://www.bettingadvice.com/showPredictionsLeague.php?idMenu=61
Alright!! My prime bet was taken but not my secondary (but of course, Man U (+1,5) wouldn't last long :D )
Bradford-Sheffield Utd 2@2,25
Bradford has got some injuries on defensive players, two defenders and both first- and secondchoice goalkeepers are out.
And sure SU lost in the CArling Cup, but they fielded a seconf string team because all they're aiming for is promotion. Here all the best are back including Everton and Fulham loans strikers Harley and Gerrard.
Strong home win.

I was sure that today will be flooded with picks so I will try to write my picks earlier.
Leicester - Manchester UTD 2 @ 1.50
After Manchester lost 2 points against main opponent last week they need to win this game. Leicester with a lot of injury problems, Scowcroft and Deane, Craig Hignett, Keith Gillespie are injured, and Paul Dickov is flu-sick. For Man Utd the game will miss Solskjaer, Scholes and Djemba-Djemba. I am sure that Nistelroy will be score-machine again and Manchester will win this game.[/b]

FC Porto @1.7
Vitoria Guimaraes v FC Porto

That link leads to nowhere!
Anyway, I take 1860 vs Stuttgart <2.5 @2.05, simply cause Stuttgart has the best defence of the league, and hasn't get any goals against so far. That won't change vs harmless 1860offense.

My second bet today is :
Reggina - Juventus 2 @ 1.75
Juventus have some problems with some injured players - Del Piero and Trezeguet. I think that Trezeguet is not so important as Di Vaio scores a lot of goals, and Nedved plays very good recently. Nedved is in excellent form and for me he is the best player in Juventus and may be even in Italy. Last game at Reggina's stadium finished 2-1 win for hosts Reggina but it was important game for Reggina in the battle against relegation and Juventus were already champions. So I think that Reginna will give back the points to Juventus today.
Well I have 2 picks in store for Sunday that I feel confident will come thru and give me a solid profit. However, I need a pick that will either make me or break me when it comes to the top 3 - and I feel that 800 points is too little to be sure of such a spot. This means that I have to take a calculated risk with my pick for Saturday - and since odds on a Freiburg victory in Dortmund are over the limit for this competition I'll settle for another German game.
Kaiserslautern-Hannover 96 2 @ 3.20
The home team is apparently not about to work their way out of the problems judging by the 1-2 home loss at the hands of Teplice midweek. To add to their woes Lucien Mettomo got injured during that game and will be out for this game. Furthermore Steffen Freund is also doubtful - but I expect him to play. The recent injury means tha Eric Gerets will have at least six men on the injured list for this game.
Hannover won the corresponding game last year and with their lethal counter attacking style they have already proved this season that they're venomous when playing away. Jan Simak will probably miss this game but that is the only worry for Hannover that so far have disposed of both HSV and Hertha - here they meet yet another team with problem on own turf. This could very well be another triumph for Hannover.

That link leads to nowhere!
Actually jolemalin's link never leads to something useful :P Most of the time, he only gave the standings, not much info.
My 1 st pick of the day is:
Livorno-Salernitana 1 @1.70
Salernitana played well against Palermo and showed signs of improvement, although they are still relegation candidate no.1 for me.
On the other side is Livorno, solid team which haven't won yet at home.
This is perfect scenario, solid team gains it's first victory at home ground against relegation candidate!!
Home win for me!
Livorno:4 games,1W-2D-1L 5pts;5-5 goal diff,
Salernitana:4 games,0W-2D-2L 2pts;3-5 goal diff.
My 2nd pick of the day is:
Walsall-Preston no<2.5 @1,85
From this game I choose over.
Main reason for that are 2 last year's games:
18/03/2003 Preston-Walsall 5-0
19/10/2002 Walsall-Preston 3-3
Walsall: 8 games,1W-3D-4L,home 1-2-1,6-4
Preston: 8 games,3W-1D-4L,away 0-1-2,2-4
Hansa (+0,75) - Bayern (-0,75) 2 @ 1.9
Three games in a row without a win - wouln't it be too much for Bayern? Last week against Levercusen, they came back from 1-2 to 3-2 with 10 players, just to lose two points late in the game. At 1-1 Ballack missed a penalty, which determined way of a game, but later he scored a terrific goal. Now, besides few long term injuries, they will miss suspensed Ze Roberto, but still they have deep squad. On the other hand, Hansa is nothing spetial, they couldn't hold 1-0 lead against 10-man HSV last week. So, I don't see any other option then away win. And with Makaay in great form, -0,75 shouldn't be so hard to beat.
PSG (-0,5) - Auxerre (+0,5) 2 @ 1,87
PSG won last two games against bottom clubs Toulouse and Guingamp, but they struggled in both matches. Yes, against Guingamp they played most of the match with 10 man, but still they haven't impressed me before Boskovic's red card. Auxerre were good in last three rounds, with two home wins and away draw at Lyon. Cisse is in fine form, which can even lead to Auxerre's win here. But I'll stick to them just not to lose this one.
Good luck!
Alberto Martin vs Franco Squillari @ 1.52
It's amazing how luck can get someone as far as QF. Squillari only beat very poor Alessio di Mauro so far and got a walkover from Volandri. On the other hand, Martin beat Ferrer and won from retiring Blanco. The H2H shows a 2-1 advantage for Squillari, however Martin won the last one and Squillari is in horrible form lately, so I will go with Martin.
Ferrero vs Ivan Ljubicic @ 1.50
Ljubicic just edged the Thai hero, Srichaphan. Now he will face Ferrero, which narrowly got past Carraz. This will be a big test for Ferrero, which will face another big server. After an abysmal performance against Roddick, he will face much criticism if he can't do anything against Ljubicic. I believe Ferrero has a good return and has the quickness to cover the court and I'll go with Ferrero.
damn...woke up late and all the fav picks got taken. furthermore i only place on sats and suns...only days where serious soccer take place
Match: Reggina(+3/4) v Juventus(-3/4)
Picks: Juventus -3/4
Odds: 2.00
Comments: Italian champions play away to a very mediocre Reggina team who had barely escaped relegation by the skins of their teeth last season. After a poor result against Roma, Juventus would be looking to bounce back to their winning ways and get back to top of the Serie A. Just too bad for Reggina really as Juventus would be all fired up to kick start yet another run of good form, probably like how they pulverised Empoli. Despite the last meeting resulted in a Reggina win...little can be taken from that game. Juventus is simply a few notches of class above Reggina and it would tell surely in this game! A win here valued at odds of 2 is certainly of great value!
Match: Bradford City v Sheffield United
Pick: X2 (double chance)
Odds: 1.33
Comments: K, first and foremost, this bet is NOT AH+1/2...it does not exist. It is in fact a DOUBLE CHANCE bet on Sheffield to draw or win this match. It is equivalent really so I do not foresee any problems. Such a bet is available at SportingBet and Gamebookers.
Let us get down to the real matters. Promotional candidates Sheffield certainly started off their season in a rosy manner. The string of good results recently and lucky results going against their promotional rivals have seen them climb up to 2nd spot this early in the season. This is by no means fluke as they have kept the very crux of the team that went almost the full length of last season's cup competitions. A very competent team which boasts a number of exciting players, and also firing all cylinders.
Bradford are in contrast a very dismal team. Ever since the relegation from the top flight, nothing has gone their way. The team sheet has certainly diminished both in quantity and quality, hence it is no surprise to see them struggle this season and results have certainly told of their sad story so far.
H2h sees them play 10 games in the league and the result is 6/4/0 in favor of Sheffield. And this record goes back to 1996...almost a decade ago! Given the current crop of players both teams have at their disposal...and their current in-running form...no way Sheffield could lose to Bradford, on paper that is. I strongly believe this will hold true once again
View my other picks via link! 8)
Birmingham City-Portsmouth UNDER 2.5 GOALS @ 1.79
Both teams play defensive football, and so far got very good results.Portsmouth, although was predicted by many people to relegate this season lost only 1 game this season, and Birmingham is still undefeated :!: .Portsmouth drew in all three away matches in this season and thats one of the main reasons i won't play a draw here (although both teams would probably be satisfied with that result), since i strongly believe in laws of probability.Last 4 matches of this teams (of course played in the first division) finished with low scoring draws.
Udinese Calcio vs Inter Milan---INTER WIN!
Udinese just played a UEFA cup match middle week, they must be tired.
They are not so good as last season, although they beaten Inter twice.
Also this match will be played on saturday, according to last season,at this time period, favourite teams never lose(exclude ac lost to chievo, but in my opinion chievo is a strong team.)
When no one fancies Inter win,I always fancy Inter!(such a inconstant team)
2.3 for inter ,great odd!I will try full stake this time   8O
Tennis Dent, Taylor vs Nieminen, Jarkko...jarkko Nieminen@2.05
my lucky coin told me ,for fun only

My 2nd pick of the day:
Gladbach to win over Bochum by 1 @3.6 (reduced to max. odds then, was it 3.25?).
Gladbach with new coach, could also mean, Gladbach with new power. But still they will have a hard fight to win over Bochum and I expect a close win like 2:1. Kuki and me wrote a lot about it at Bettingadvice and Bettingadvice-Forum.
For today 2 picks. Let's see.. I'll try again with HIGH ODDS...
--------------
1st PICK
----------
Borrusia Mönchengladbach v VfL Bochum ; Take SCORING DRAW @4.00
Comment;
I can not trust FACH for this match.. That's not a lower division.. BUNDESLIGA is a bit different. And to change the players mind is not enough..
It's sure that GLADBACH will fight more than past weeks. But will that fight be enough to beat BOCHUM ???
I trust BOCHUM not to lose this match..
But for HIGH odds do i take SCORING DRAW @4.00
And OVER 2.5 is also a nice bet... But I will still be happy with a 1-1 RESULT...
2nd PICK
----------
PSG v Auxerre ; take DRAW @3.05
Comment;
I don't think that these 2 teams will be able to beat each other.. PSG not the team that i loved 2-3 years ago.. And AUXERRE the team of UNDER's last season.. I don't like both teams and i will be ahppy with a draw so that both lose 2 points...
That's all for today..
Let's kick emm all !!!
Pick No. 14: /ENG1/ Sunderland - Reading - 2, odds: 3.15 @ GB
Reading is a team that hates to draw - they're going to win it or lose it. Recently they had a lot of losses so I guess it is time for them to turn on the other direction as they are one of the strong teams in the division.
Sunderland may have some significant changes in defense which will not be positive for that part of their play. You can read more about it here:
http://www.teamtalk.com/teamtalk/News/Story_Page/0,7760,687729,00.html
The striking duo for Reading Shaun Goater and Steve Sidwell is back in contention after injuries so it will be a different Reading in attack, and I hope more effective. Away win is expected here, good odds.
Farul Constanta v Rapid Bucharest  Rapid @1.95
Read my prediction here:
http://www.fcbet.com/v2/pick.asp?pickID=783
1st Pick
Fenerbahce - Genclerbirligi over 2.5 1.56
Fener : 6 games 15-8 goals ,home 3 games 10-5 goals
Gencler:6 games 10-8 goals ,away 3 games 3-5 goals
all games
Fener: 0-3,1-0,7-1,2-1,3-1,2-2
Gencler:2-3,2-3,1-0,1-2,0-0,4-0
i think the only way this game to be under is if Gencler not score. But their offence is too good with 10 goals in 6 games, besides Fener's defence is not something special...
2nd Pick
Reggina - Juventus Juve win by 1 goal 3.65
Juve is the big favorite to win this game but i take the risk for 1 goal winning margin because of the 2 big absent players,DelPiero and Trezeguet.I dont think that Juve will score more than 2 goals, so if Juve wins this will be with 1-0,2-0,2-1.So i take the risk and i am betting in 1-0 or 2-1...

Half Time 27 Sep 03 13:30 Home Draw Away
Bradford City v Sheffield U 3.05 2.00 2.95
My pick is win for Sheffield U at HT @ 2.95
Home team misses many players in defence and today is very difficult to get a point against Sheffield U which has good tradition in this derby and not squad problems. Also, home team lost last games at home so it is probabkle that faces many problems. I will get away team to win at HT because has better odd than straight away win and because I think that Sheffield will start aggressive in order to take positive result but I am not sure if that will be finally win or draw.
I have to change my second pick since Casabel has the same...
2nd Pick
Hansa-Bayern over 2.5 1.65
This game is between 2 teams which Hansa has bad defence(11 goals in 6 games) and Bayern has both good offense and bad defense( 15-10 goals in 6 games) and they are favorite to win.
All games:
Hansa: 0-2,2-2,3-0,3-3,0-2,1-2
Bayern: 3-1,3-3,2-0,2-0,2-3,3-3
Giannis
Ok, here's first game for today:
Mexican Clausura
Guadalajara v Necaxa - Draw - 3.20
Difficult game, Guadalajara is very irregular and wins away, but loses at home. Necaxa is on top of the table, but has no wins away from home. Both teams will have to defend first, since none wants to lose all points here and the draw is really possible. Good odds for this result, good is also the asian handicap for Necaxa, which has to win away sometime.
Good luck.
Hi, my pick for today is:
LYON - LENS H'CAP 0:1 PICK X (3,65)
Lyon to win by 1 goal difference.Well this is the
derby of france liga this weak and I think that
Lyon will win today but it will not be easy.So this
will be by 1 goal difference.
Chelsea vs Aston Villa HC 0:1 1 @2.00
IMO Chelsea will win this one easily. They have a fantastic team and they are playing in great form.Crespo-Mutu-JFH what an offence,I think they atleast score 3 goals in this one against poor Villa defence.Villa will have trouble upfront to,cause Chelsea's defence is great to! Odds are ok but not fantastic ! Chelsea to win this one by 2goals or more!
Good afternoon to y' all, my friends ! What a lovely day to take a chance with two games from the English lower divisions :
First pick : Wimbledon v Burnley ..................... OVER 2.5 goals............... 1.71 at GB
Second pick : Huddersfield v Leyton Orient ................ 1 .....................1.72 at GB
Though I rarely venture into such low odds  for me, I consider those two to be excellent picks : The OVER in the Div. 1 game looks like a banker if there ever was one... Two free-scoring teams with notoriously terrible defences and superb strikers meet each other in the grand opening of Wimbledon's new home ground at Milton Keynes. Though predicting a winner in this one would be risky at best, the OVER bet is a gift
As for the Div. 3 clash at Huddersfield, the visitors are so badly depleted by injuries and/or bans that anything else but a clear home win would come as a serious surprise... Of course, surprises are the norm in these divisions rather than the exception, but who ever said betting is risk-free ?
Good luck to all, and thanks to Tahoma for allowing us September busybuddies to get a few extra picks in, just for the fun of it !!!
Two UNDER-picks from me today...
Football, England, Premier League
Leicester-Manchester United UNDER 2.5 goals @2.00
I'm pretty sure that United will win this game, but Leicester are no pushovers at home, where they are unbeaten, even though they have some injuries at the moment, but they still seem to cope pretty fine.
I still don't expect Leicester to score today, they will probably just defend with the whole team, but 1-0 is more than enough for United, that doesn't seem to be in the best of form at the moment, even though the results as always are good. I think United will win, but a hard fighting Leicester should be a hard nut to crack.
Football, Spain, Primera Division
Osasuna-Deportivo La Coruña UNDER 2.5 goals @1.83
This one is more obvious, maybe a litte too obvious, but the odds were really much higher than I expected on this game, so this will be my second pick. The reasons are pretty obvious, both teams play defensive and then counter attack. Osasuna has played four games and with the total goal diffrence of 4-2. (1.5 goals per game). Deportivos average is a bit higher (slightly over 2 goals per game), but I expect them to play even more cautious away from home. If either team should score, they will for sure just defend their lead, and I really can't see either of these two teams going on a goal scoring frenzy, after scoring the first one, if they even manage that one...
My pick of the day (1/2):
Reggina - Juventus under 2.5 goals @ 1.95
I think the chance of less than three goals is pretty big here. Juventus will miss both Del Piero and Trezeguet up front and also Legrottaglie, Thuram and Conte. Di Vaio will probably be Juventus player on top against Reggina. The home team will probably play pretty defensive in this game and try to get a draw, while Juventus will be satisfied with a 1-0 or 2-0 victory. The Champions League is more important for Juventus at the moment and I don't expect the players to perform 100% against Reggina.
Celta - Valadolid 1 @1.75
Can't imagine Celta with 5 games without win, and there is good oportunity. Celta still without Catanha, but with so many good players which can win this one. And the next game at home is against Real, so they can't count on sure points against these magic guys.
Hi, my 2nd pick for today is:
SEDAN - VALENCE HT-FT 1-1 (2,65)
Sedan menaged to pick 2 wins in a row and they
are going for the top of the league.Valence no win
in last 6 games 0-2-4 has no chance today.
Torino - Palermo under @1.66
Two canidates for promotion, and expecting careful game, with neither team want to lose. Torino slightly favourite and Palermo going for one point, and probably playing very defensive. Torino won against poor Genoa only 1:0, so even if they win this I expect something similar. Probably results: 0:0, 1:0, 1:1
UnderOver1979
27-09-03, 15:09
2nd bet for today and I think my last one to this competition.
I lost my first half time bet for today and finally Sheffield won but I will try another half time bet , lets hope being luckier with this one.
Half Time 27 Sep 03 20:00 Home Draw Away
Rennes v Le Mans 2.20 2.10 4.55
My pick is : Home win at HT @ 2.20
Le Mans is worst team in the league and a team with major difficulties scoring. 1 goal scored Le Mans in 7 games till now. Rennes is medium strength team but seem that has capability to win weaker teams easily. I believe that will score early a goal or 2 and that Le Mans , Le Mans what? I do not think will make the wonder today and manage score the 2nd goal. Many chances I believe for Rennes -also playiong home- to win at HT and of course to win the game.
Celta de Vigo v Valladolid 0:1 2.70 3.65 2.05 1

Winning Margin
Guimaraes v FC Porto FC Porto by 2 or more 2.35
http://www.bettingadvice.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11574
Saturday's two picks are 2 draws.
1st Caen v St. Etienne pick DRAW @ 2.70
The only team in france ligue 2 with no draw so far (5-0-4). In a division that draws are so common this must come to an end. And this is the opportunity. St Etiene plays at caen ( 2-1-1 at home goals 4-3 in 4 games) quite difficult opponent, i think both will be satisfied.
2nd Bastia v Sochaux pick DRAW @ 3.00
Bastia home 2-0-1 so far , Sochaux as visitors 1-0-2 (No draws). Sochaux is playing great lately scoring goals and taking results. Bastia is solid at home all these years comes from two wins the last two games at home. I think that at this game both opponents will settle for a draw and one point each.

FULL TIME : Wimbledon v Burnley 2-2
..................... Huddersfield v Leyton Orient 3-0
EASY MONEY !!! :D
My second pick today comes from the big game tonight between Valencia and Real Madrid. It's hard to predict the winner here, but I think the best pick is over 2.5 goals. I was expecting odds around 1.65 for this bet, so 1.71 is not too low in my opinion. There's not much to say about this pick, we all know Real Madrid and their offensive qualities. Valencia's first three games finished with few goals and that's probably why the price for OVER is higher than I expected. Real Madrid's defence isn't the best, so I don't think Valencia will have problems scoring at least one goal, and Real will most probably score twice or more. Probable results: 1-2, 1-3, 2-2, etc.
By the way, I have found a lot of good picks with well-written analysis here today! I hope for the same tomorrow! :)
