Michael Ballack and Robert Huth are doubts for Germany's next FIFA World Cup™ warm-up against fellow finalists Japan in Leverkusen on Tuesday.

Ballack, the Germany captain, suffered a minor ankle strain in a practice game last Thursday and was forced to miss Saturday's 7-0 win over Luxembourg in Freiburg. He had been expected back within a couple of days but he missed training again on Sunday.

"It's too early to tell whether he will be able to play against Japan," assistant coach Joachim Low told reporters at the team's training camp in Switzerland on Sunday. "We'll decide on Monday at the earliest.

"He came through some intensive individual sessions while we were in Germany and it's a bit better but he is still feeling some pain."

Centre-back Huth also came out of the Luxembourg game with an ankle problem, while striker Oliver Neuville has a less serious thigh strain.

Philipp Lahm, first-choice left-back for the FIFA World Cup hosts, has yet to recover fully from the elbow injury he suffered on 16 May.

"The scan on Huth's ankle revealed nothing dramatic," Low said. "Thankfully there's no tear but again, it's too early to tell whether he can play."

Neuville's thigh injury was "no real problem", according to Low. Ballack will join Chelsea after the FIFA World Cup, following his move on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

The injury news dampened the mood at the German camp following their enjoyable victory over Luxembourg.

Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski led the attack with two goals apiece and Neuville came off the bench to score two in less than a minute of injury time. Torsten Frings got the other goal on his 50th international appearance.

"Japan and Colombia are of a completely different calibre to Luxembourg," Low said.v"But of course we can be positive about the performance. It was nice to see that the players have learned a lot from the things we've been working on here in Geneva."

Germany leave Switzerland on Tuesday and head straight to Leverkusen for the game against Japan. They then set up camp in Dusseldorf for a couple of days before playing Colombia in Monchengladbach on 2 June.

They play the opening match of the FIFA World Cup against Costa Rica in Munich on 9 June, with further Group A games to come against Poland and Ecuador. The final is on 9 July in Berlin.

I think the bookmakers are clearly underrestimating the Japanese here. There is not that huge differance in class between these two sides as the odds indicate.BUT i don`t know if Japan travel with their best man so i will wait for more news.If all best players are available i have no problems giving them 20% in this game.

C'mom guys, it's still Japan.
Germany won't trash them for sure but all fans in Germany expect a win tomorrow. Imagine a draw and a loss 2weeks before the WC, it would be terrible. Odds are low, that's for sure, but I took germany earlier at 1.50 in nice combo.

Japan is a medicore team with their only stars Nakata and Nakamura. Ok,they have Takahara playing for HSV in Germany but he's not really a good striker. Look back the the Confed -Cup last year. Japan was terrible in offense and only scored against Brasil because Brazil lacked motivation.

Ballack isn't such a huge blow a many think here. Borowski is a good substitute and Klose and Poldi will do their job in offense. Huth is not bad,but with Japan's weak offense his injury is no big blow as well.

Should end sth like 2:0 or 3:1

If Japan is medicore what is germany then ? Remember last time they bwon a big nation ? Yes they are better than Japan but if Japan comes with best players this is a 50-30-20.

I hope for Germany i wc but not this game

I wouldn`t touch odds around 1,45-1,5 for hw. Luxembourg was nothing, Metzelder said, Servette Genf (third league swiss) was better (!).

The match will be played at BayArena (Leverkusen), a small stadium with around 23000 seats, a advantage for the hometeam. It`s sold out, but that`s normally.

Japan`s line up (monday):

Kawaguchi
Tsuboi-Migamoto-Nakazawa
Kaji-H.Nakata-Fukunishi-Santos
Nakamara
Yanagisawa-Takahara

Huth`s possible absence isn`t important, he is a awful player, vs Luxembourg he made three big faults. If there`s a real good player like Ronaldo (he can have 10 pounds :D more) or Zlatan, Huth would have a hard time. With this defence Germany is very weak. I don`t know until now, why Huth is a player for the national team.

Miroslav Klose had unexpected trip home to Poland, he is back in Germany today but still questionable if he will play. The trip had to do with some ''personal reasons'' - most likely nothing exciting happened to his family and he's gonna be mentally down.
The question now is wether its enough with Podolski and Neuville to secure victory for the hosts.
For me bet on Germany becomes a bit shaky...

Still no info on Japan ...
Hey, where are our Japanese BA members :!: (If we have them  )
