Affer easy victory vs Austria, Croatia in Osijek will play against Iran..
In my personal opinion Croatian team will do their best to win, traditionaly Croatia always play excelent in Osijek (beat Latvia 4:1, Poland 4:1, if i remember corectly)
Some will expects two goals margin victory for Croatia in this match, its possibile off course, but i am not so sure in that....

Iran are by far the better side than Austria! And more creative and prepared for this sort of matches...

I've got to check the teams news, but Iran are more than capable of surviving this match IMO.They've got a bunch of experienced players like ex-Hertha and Bayern Munchen forward Ali Daei, Mahdavikia(Hamburger SV), Hashemian(Hannover), Karimi(Bayern Munchen), Zandi(Kaiserlslautern),...,and they're surely better than these odds suggest.

i think betting on 2-3 goals for this game can be good.i predict 1-1 or 2-1 win for croatia

Does somebody know Iran squad for this match?
Kranjcar wants to test players like Butina, Modric and Vranjes in this game and I believe they will be in starting 11. Interesting, Kranjcar wants to put 3 attackers against Brasil: Prso, Klasnic, Olic and maybe he will try this formation against Iran, but who won't play in that case? Babic, Kovac? His son is out of question of course

Playing the full strength Croatian team in Croatia is not an easy task for any team. We will be lucky if we get a draw from this game but a more realistic result will be 2-1 or 3-1 for Croatia, unless Branko has miraculously cured all our defensive frailties in a matter of the past 3 weeks. I actually don't care much about the result, I would just like to see a very strong showing from our team and some of the new faces tried. Iran is probably without Karimi and Hashemian due to injuries

Croatia will win this game, thats for sure...if he is going to put three attackers in the game then we will see probably more than two goals from Croatia. Iran is a better team then Austria becouse of that they will be scoring even more goals then Austria...
In this game we will see a rain of goals 8)

croatia always play good no matter is game friedly or not...they beat so easily austria and l think they will beat iran too...
iran has very good team but croatia will do her best and take win here.
prso and klasnic are great in attack and l think one of them will decide game.

Confirmed, Pletikosa is starter, and Butina will play in second half. But we don't know squad yet...it doesn't matter, tickets are sold out in Osijek and I believe in easy victory. But don't be so sure about "rain of goals", remember Cro-Latvia 0:0 in Osijek last time

yep, Estonia my mistake  .
Starting squad is same as against Austria, except Tudor won't play, he has light injury, and Vranjes will start from beggining. Kranjcar said that he will try changing formations during match from 3 to 4 defernders, so Vranjes can play defensive midfield and back also. Also he will give chance to Modric, I. Leko and Bosnjak in second half.

Come on Men, that was in 1998, you realy wants to keep it on aspect to play Croatia?

Last our plays was in 2003 and then in Split was 0:0 and next two days we beat Macedonia 3:0, but nevermind...

I think Croatia after wins with Austria and Argentina are very very good team. Odds on home win (this is very good info, that they are playing in Croatia) is very good.

I will trust Croatia to win tonight.

What fascinates me about our team is that Zlatko Kranjcar wants serious approach towards every match (like in Austria). The Squad is very strong and we finally work as a team.
Osijek is very excited about this match, stadium will be full and fans expect only a win, I believe Croatia will give them their gift before going to Germany.

All is possible here, but a Home Win is very likely: 2-0 or 3-0 IMO

According to the latest news from Iran squad (Sunday morning), Hashemian(Hannover), Karimi(Bayern Munchen), Zandi(Kaiserlslautern) are going to be rested.
But Mahdavikia(Hamburger SV) will start regularly.
I’m giving my bet for Croatia (steak 8/10).

this and turkey today is what i pick. i probably am going to pick 2:1 exact score. iran will probably take this more seriously and croats just take this easy way, like they dod in austria, seem probable result.

Be careful in betting on against Iran. They are not a bad team in my opinion. This is not must win match for Croatia, so draw will not be a bad result for them.
It is similar to yesterday's match Spain - Russia, when Spain had a lot of chances to score, but the match was ended in a draw.
This is only a friendly match.
0:0 i think is possible here... or maybe 1:0.

:D ..almost burned I guess

I also think Croatian team will win it. Since odds on HW are not good enough I'll go for over 2,5. This should be quite relaxed match IMO and very open. Since Iran is a team, which can resist on the field and even score it makes me quite certain that scenario will happen. In worst case we can see result 2:0.

Looooooooooool !!!

The good thing for Croatia is that all of their players seem to be in great form. I watched the match against Austria and not only Croats scored 4 goals, but it was great fun and pleasure watching them. Great organization, great tactics from Cico Kranjcar and what's most important is that all these players seem like they are playing together for their entire lives. Everybody knows where his colegue is on the field, there is no selfishness and the first thing they do is passing the ball to the player in better position, instead of trying to score by their own.

That's exactly what brings success on World Cups, and that's exactly what their 1998 team was doing. Now, this 2006 team doesn't have the Suker-Boban-Prosinecki callibars , but there are still players that know everything about football and who are capable of beating even teams like Brazil,England or Italy.
Home ground, quality, form...all of them say Home Win, most probably by 2 or more goals margin.....but again: It's only a friendly !

Taurus!
28-05-06, 12:34
I think that Croatia will win. Of course Iran is far better than Austria, but let's not forget the home advantage. Croatia rarely plays in Osijek. And the fans will be hungry for a win. 1.55 in my local and I took it with low-medium stakes because it's a friendly. :D

I don't understand how somebody rate tonight Croatia to win 8/10 and is only a friendly match??

Well if we compare these two teams, Croatia is better in all aspects and is playing at home, in front of one of the better supporters in the world :D

I think that the reason og such good plays of Croatia is the excellent teamwork that has this team!!! In the national selection there is no a Superstar man , all 11 ARE LIKE 1

I'd just like to say that my country mates are euphoric now, and would all stake 10/10 on Croatia's win even if the odds were 1.20.

They know nothing about Iran, a very creative team. Hashemian and Karimi aren't playing so only that gives the edge to Croatia.

But, both of the teams are very creative in offense, and aren't too good in defending. Yes, Croatia has one of the strongest defenses in the world, but it's still not working properly. Austrians were playing cat & mouse with Croatian defense, and only due to their low skill they didn't score. I'm not counting the goal directly from corner kick.

So, take over 2.5, and know that Iran will be one of the surprises in the World Cup. And enjoy the game, it will be an eye candy.

I actually think that Croatian national team will now learn a lesson that the opponent shouldn't be underestimated. Iran will score 1st.

PrideGP
28-05-06, 13:51
I disagree Cafa.

No-one is staking 10/10 on Croatia, but if Croatian bookmares offered 1.70 for home win, is it wrong to take it?

Game against Austria wasn't perfect, Cico knows that well. R. Kovac has stated twice that the defense in 1st half was on a low level but they've fixed it in the 2nd half.
Iran is a qualitive team with some good individuals such as Karimi, Al Daehi, Maghdavikia,... When I read the interviews I only see respect towards Iranian team, our players do realize that Iran is a better side than Austria.

We don't play that many games in Osijek but when it comes to friendly matches we have good score in Osijek (4-1 against Hungary and Poland).

Keep the stakes medium/high, but IMO Croatia won't recieve a goal tonight and will seriously take this match as it did against Austria and comfortably win.

One more note:

On November 11 2005 ( 6 months ago), Iran lost 1:2 at home in Teheran from Macedonian "B" team.
And Iran had full squad then, with Karimi, Daei, Hashemian( he scored the only goal), Mahdavikia, Zandi etc.

It was a tournament in Iran, and Macedonian team was really the "B" team, with 7 youngsters in the starting line up. At the same time Macedonian "A" team was playing a friendly in Liechtenstein.
Croatia is classes better than Macedonian A team, and few more classes better than the B team.

I know we can't compare matches this way, but if what i saw from Iran 6 months ago is what they really have, then they'll be in trouble tonight !

i've taken over cos of good odds and based on what i saw in austria match. croatians played very relaxed and had reserves in both defense and offense which i believe they can adjust play easily at home if iran will trouble them.

croatians will rock tonight. now i'll just have to have hrt2 installed very fast hehe or i'm going to check other shedules. if its somewhere on internet dont be shy and PM me

Are you sure of that 'full squad? lt must have been an inofficial game, lran 2 days later, on November the 13th beat Togo 2:0 and l doubt if Branko lvankovic let his best guys play 180 minutes in 48 hours.

Yes, probably some of you watched on Eurosport their WC-qualifying game against Japan where they were pretty poor, mainly due to missing Karimi. l watched on iranian tv almost all their games and l must say they can play well if only they dominate in the midfield. Maybe that's why they used to lose to most of the European teams, having much better record against non-Europeans. lranians ain't used to be defensive, so Croatia does. I bet on OVER 2.5 6/10 and nothing more. Of course Croatia is more likely to win this game but Lord keep me away from any handicap on Croats.

. It was a tournament that takes place every year in Teheran and it is concidered to be very important for Iranians.
The match against Macedonia was the semifinal, and Iran played with full squad in front of 60-70 000 people. But they lost and the match against Togo wasn't important so much for the Iranians, because it was only a match for 3rd place !

Good game by Iran, congrats to coach Ivankovic and his team.

Croatia were not that brilliant, but the game in general was weak due to heavy rain.

And what an error by Iranian keeper in the 94th minute 8O He dropped the ball and fouled Olic by grabbing his foot. Croatia tied it up through a penalty (Babic).

Don't get me wrong here, apart from Croatia I will be supporting Poland and Paraguay on the World Cup, but your team just doesn't strike me as powerful. I'm almost definitely wrong though, since I watched only 3 games with Poland in the qualifiers.

However, next match (Saturday) Poland v Croatia. Dzien dobry! :)

Iran side is pretty good, they impressed me with good discipline and technic, especially Ali Karimi, really class player, and Nosrati. Pitty Mahdavikia wasn't play I believe they are much stronger with him, his substitute Kaabi is agressive but not so technicly good and Cro defense hasn't much troubles to neutralise him. It's worth to mention defence midfielder Nekounam, he was pretty good. Ali Daei looks like good player, he is Iran legend, but I think he is too old to make some explosion on world cup, they need one more class striker type as Ali Karimi is to be a world top team. Other striker Hashemian is nothing special. And one surprise, when Borhani entered he make panic in Cro defense, and he was definetly best player on the field. Maybe coach Ivankovic may think to put him in first squad. The weakest side in Iran is goalkeaper Mirzaspour, and his form in Germany will probably decide Iran destiny, he was unsecure during all match. So when you think to bet against Iran in Germany think twice, they could be surprise in first stage of tournament.
