View Full Version : Argentina to win WC, Poland to qualify for knock-out stages
Argentina have been fairly poor in every world cup since 1990 but maybe this year they'll achieve glory in Germany. Pekerman I believe is a good tactician and 'steadied the boat' when he took over as national manager from Bielsa. They have an abundance of gifted defensive and attacking players. Cambiasso, Riquelme in midfield, Ayala, Heinze and Samuel in defence and the likes of Tevez, Crespo and Messi up front. Messi in particular could be regarded as the finest youth player in the world at the moment, capable of lighting up the Argentinian attack like Maradona did in the early/mid 80s. They also beat Brazil 3-1 in their last qualifying match in Buenos Aires, showing what they're capable of. So they're definetly in 'dark horse' mode for the World Cup. Odds of around 10.0/10.5 are available at the betting exchanges. They're in with a good shout I believe.
Another price I found at Betfair was 1.63 for Poland to qualify from their group! This is amazing when you consider that the other teams are the relatively poor Costa Rica and Ecuador. Germany are fairly mediocre but will no doubt get through due to home advantage + the fact that the Germans alwys raise their game for the big tournaments. Poland had a good qualifying campaign and are on a buzz as I believe this is their first WC ever. Should beat both CR and Ecuador and maybe even get a draw against their bitter rivals Germany (I expect their to be off the field trouble at that game).
England at 1.20 to qualify from that group (Sweden, T&T and Paraguay) is also an incredible price I believe, even if Rooney is injured. As close to a sure bet as you could get.
Poland has a big problem with players:
- gk Dudek (Liverpool), md Krzynówek (Leverkusen), md Kosowski (Southampton) doesn't play in clubs,
- sc Frankowski (Wolves) and fcr Smolarek (Dortmunt) doesn't score goals
- dc Klos is out of form, dc B***261;k is playing in league of Katar so his form is one big question.
Only lb ***379;ew***322;akow (Anderlecht), rb Baszczy***324;ski (Wis***322;a), md Szymkowiak (Trabzon) and fc ***379;urawski (Cetic) are playing regular and are in good form. Reserv gk Boruc (Celtic) also play regular but his form is not as good as was a few months ago.
It was just first 11. As you can see situation is not good becouse there are not a lot of good players in Poland with the same class as above.
Tomorrow we will play friendly game and coach Janas will be testing a few new faces and form of reserve players.
P.S. Sorry for my english.

I beg your pardon? I think you should check the facts before you write anything in here (or anywhere else) where people do read it.
This is not the first WC for Poles! We are not the football mightiest nation but we had couple of appearances in WC before. By using the internet you can find out a lot...
We had quite a good records in the seventies and especially in WC in Germany 1974... I won't tell u more than that.
As for the bet (Poland to qualify from the group @1.63) - I am not that convinced about Polish power as you are. @1.63 is definitely not worth a shot here. We still do not know who will go to the Cup as our squad has not been yet announced.

Mannn...!?!!?.....I am not a Pole, but how the h*ll can you write something like that!?!?!?
Poland is quite a strong team....with great traditions in football......!!!
After today's loss to Lithuania, i think they still have a lot of work to do. And even if they were without main few players, World Cup team can't play like that, and especialy if they want to qualify for knock out stage. :?
Well, i'm a little worried. It's getting to be very similiar to pre-world cup 2002 campaign :?
There is more info about wich players get a better commercial than about their sports acvhivments

Argentina is certainly one of the "possibilities" to win the World Cup IMO. They face a big task to get out of the "Group of death" (it wouldn't surprise me to see any 2 of the 4 teams coming out of it)...but if they do get into the 2nd round, then at least a semi-final spot is theirs for the taking.

Yep, it is very sad when people like user Mr. Europe opens threads like this one, knowing absolut nothing regarding football, ''I believe this is their first WC ever''...
And that's not all, he somehow found big value on odds like 1.63 on Poland to qualify... and England at 1.20.
Come on...

Poland were in last world cup (japan) USA's group??
Mr. Europe,
you must've meant it will be Poland's 1st World Champion title when writing those lines. In 1982 they were pretty close to winning it all. If my memory isn't cheating on me, Poland took the 3rd place behind Italy and Germany in 1982. I guess France shared the 3rd with them. And that was a really tough World Cup, played in a purely footballing country - Spain.
As far as Argentina, yes they do have the team to win it. I have a coupla tapes from the 2002 World Cup. Must confess Argentina play really good. They have excellent physical condition and are extremely fast and technical. The fact they failed to make it to the next round was due to lack of luck in some instances and Bielsa was a little too soft, too civilized for that team.
I personally believe that the upcoming World Cup cannot be imagined without Germany playing in the final. They reached the final in 2002 and now all the more so, playing at home, they must do it again. I hope I'm not the only one who believes so.
Good Luck!
well,
I don't know if there's value in 1.63 for Poles to reach 2nd round,
but I do think Poland to win Ecuador @2.05 is a great one.
It's becoming a bit of tradition for me,laying Ecuador in their away games.
I can't remember when was the last time they managed to grab 3 points away from home...
Ecuador is the worst team in this group.
Poland is second best team (after Germany).
Without even knowing squads, I'll back poland here...

In last WC Ecuador beat Croatia 1:0, and for Croatia that match was "to be or not to be", so i wouldnt underestimated Ecuador
Initially I thought that Ecuador will really struggle and might only get 1 point (draw v C Rica) but having thought about it I have changed my mind,
Ok Ecuador are a brilliant side playing at high altitude in Quito, beating almost every time they play (since 2002:)
P W D L F A
16 11 3 2 26 13
But playing away from home look at this:  (Again since 2002:)
P W D L F A
17 1 3 13 8 29
1 win in 4 years!! (the only win being in the very high altitude of La Paz
so almost like a home game)
but an important thing here is games at Nuetral Venue (Copa America-World Cup)
P W D L F A
15 4 4 7 14 20 So not that bad.
So for tournements they may NOT have the same problems as playing one off away games. They have time and practice to get used to playing away from high altitude. Almost 1/3rd of the squad play in Ecuador for champions LDU Quito (leading league and in 1/4 of Copa Libertadores) They will know each others game well and this can only help.
I think Germany will win all three matches. Costa Rica will lose all 3 matches, with the key game being Poland v Ecuador.
So if the game is a draw goal difference will settle the group.
Me:
Germany G3 W3 D0 L0 Pts 9
Ecuador G3 W1 D1 L1 Pts 4
Poland G3 W1 D1 L1 Pts 4
C Rica G3 W0 D0 L3 Pts 0
yeah, and reality will show that C Rica will reach the 2nd round
Hey ORI!!
you want to aplogise for you being so WRONG!!!!
I was almost 100% right. 8)
