So, do you feel the forum without signatures is a good idea, or plain **** from the stupid boss?

Let your voice be heard.

An alternative is to limit the characters allowed in the signatures, ofcourse.

Vote.

I was one of the main ones who has been moaning about this for a long time and I must admit that since they've been removed, the site is easier to navigate and actually read the info which you want to read.

I'll probably get slated for this, but I voted to keep it with no signatures.

A signature with limited characters is good imo. I mean "one-sentence-sig" is okay, but we should not support our whole linksection in the signature...

Since it is one line, I think it's okay, for the eyes and the navigation...

I voted "No" myself, but I am believe I can live with a few lines in a signature.
Interesting to see the results, when this vote has run for a while.

Vote for NO signatures!

That was great decision. Signatures are nice thing to make forum more personal. But there was so much abuse of it, that it wasn't much fun at all, especially for moderators. Some people with paid services even haven't bothered to open a thread in Tips websites (where they would be monitored), so they used signatures for promoting themselves (and also spammed the forum with lots of useless posts).

We are here to exchange and to collect betting info, so imo signatures are not needed. Maybe in some time (months, not weeks) to allow signatures with limites number of characters (and limited size/colour too). And maybe to find a mode to forbid certain users (paid services first) to use signatures at all.

I`ll repeat - I actually like signatures very much as they are part of every forum and allow to individualise every member in some way.

But it become way too stupid when many threads were spammed with people not interested in forum, posting just to show their signature, of course with bolded letters in huge fonts

And if no signatures can allow us to get rid of this spam then I`m fully on NO SIGNATUREs. If people can`t use them then better keep them removed.

p.s. I betrayed the holy order :( and voted for "NO" but I`m sure strandns is much more faithful then me and will vote for "Allow signatures, unlimited chars"

I voted for limited chars signatures, just for the sake of democracy, but frankly I couldn't care less.

I used mine to provide a direct link for BA' related site(NBApunter). Even if I had a pay service some day I probably woudn't promote it in my signature.

Like the others here, I don't think highly of big rainbow signatures, with direct links and phrases like "123 % yield, +346 units of profit in January" etc...

We can live without imo...

Actually, I have clear position on this one, but somehow Terje forgot to add an option:

"No signatures, with exeptions for Arbiter Elegantiarum and Strandns, as they were the only ones who understood the purpose of a simple, modest and non-abusive signature."

So in other words as far as your concerned, these 1500 characters could be any text, any size and any colour?

tazerom

yes but most of the members abused that 1500 char and made signatures sometimes even bigger than their posts

Problem is you can't limit is automaticly (url's, fonts...), at least not now. Then it is up to moderators to delete every single unpropriate signature, which is time consuming.

i dont know a thing about the code used in this site phpBB i think, but i cant get it why cant we have a single text with nothing more.
as the Gor said the signatures says that 1500 char allowed so limit this to a smaller number and why not disable
HTML is ON
BBCode is ON
Smilies are ON
which are next to the signature box.

a plain text a smart saying or something or for the paid services, site owners just the url nothing more

I haven't read one useful signature in the last two years, so I can do without them. It seems that some members can't control themselves. We've seen too many contentless posts that are just to show the signature, so the forum is cleaner now.

Why not forbid signatures completely? If someone stills uses them they could get a warning first, and then if no improvement, be banned.

I agree with Moneymaker and I think that if signatures should be allowed, not only the number of characters should be limited but font size and colours also...

I am against signatures...

Oh there is one exception... Macot: Combos are cheap !

No signatures at all is best.

"Choose wisely", what a nice signature and a lot of wisdom in that small, simple sentence. Saved a lot of money for many beginners and was a lighthouse at dark sea of betting for many professionals at this forum. :)

But truly speaking, if there isn't way to control them (their size, number of characters), I think they will become even bigger pain in the ass in the future. Like Monty said: "we can live without them..."

PS;
BA FORUM without signatures is till now the worst ever rule change !!! and that needs to change back soon...
Just LIMIT the words in the signature, or just don't let BBCode work there...
That will be enough...

Agree I wasn't clear enough - text only, size and color same as one I'm writing this.

Yes, and I have written an Announcement.

Max characters: 150

Signatures which are excessive, like the one JuanKaan currently is expressing, should be avoided.

This forum has no option to turn off colours, bbcode, smileys, etc in the signtures only. It has to be done in all posts.

I can download a hack to solve this problem, but my experiences with various hacks are not good (slows the forum down).

It is not possible to deny certain users signatures either, it is either all or noone, unless I install a hack for it.

I therefore ask for the public to use common sense.

Signatures are useless, only people who need it are paid service owners, who use them for excessive promotion (and to avoid strict rules in 'Tips websites'). It was much better without them. Pity. :(

Lyd has completely right. Why were the signatures allowed again :?:

Because the poll democracy shows more wished to have signatgures allowed than not.

Also, if it turns out that people are abusing it, we'll just close it down again, for good.

The bottom line is that a signture is just a little gesture, to personalize a forum.

When the signatures are bigger than the post it self, it has lost it¨s function imho.

So therefore, signatures should not be in bold figures, large letters, 4-5-6 lines, include apparant advertising, etc.
Common sense is needed.
