View Full Version : Disable edit/delete posts?
This is a question for Terje, but anyone can give their thoughts and opinions, of course.
I think I noticed that sometimes members are editing or deleting their posts after their pick is lost. It especially goes to people who are promoting their payed services. If they delete just a few bad picks with high stakes after some time, other people can make wrong impression about their service.
So, is it techinally (ah, spelling?) possible to disable those functions for those members?
I can understand your point, but wouldnt it be a bit unfair to all normal members here, when you are not able to edit your post anymore?
I mean, most here are not native english speakers and its quite normal you write things wrong or you see, your grammar is  and so you edit it, I like to edit my posts often, cause when I open p.ex. a Bundesliga-Thread, I add all news into it.
Maybe, normal users should not be allowed to delete, thats maybe good. Only moderators.
I think actually that this is the perfect situation as it is now, and hear my reasons:>
1.Most "normal" users, members, and even mods are able to edit and delete their posts, which only helps them to make their posts better, even after once submitting their message.
2.The payed services who actually DO that (edit the post after the game is lost) can be "revealed", and lose credibility that way...
For example, a member or a mod noticed that a payed service(or anyone for that matter) edited the post after a game was finished, you simply EXPOSE him, and his credibility will fall drastically, I can assure you that.Nobody likes cheaters.
Good idea, Lyd, but I think the way it is now, regarding that, it's the best way...
Only my two cents here...
Maybe I didn't express myself clear. :) I wanted to ask if it is possible to disable this function for particular users, not for all members.
Like, moderator notice a member who is promoting a site, he sends pm to Terje and he disable edit/delete only for that user. Yes, maybe it's a bit more complicating and more work for mods.... but I'm really annoyed with flood of sure-picks-150%yield-guarantee-blah-blah... and we can't even check their previous record here if they delete some old bad picks.

Yes. But if he delete picks from old threads (like from May, June, July), noone will notice that. And he can fake his record afterwards.

But it's easy to notice that if and when looking at one's previous records:::>
It will say that initial post date was at least 2, 3 months older than the EDIT time, so he's busted anyway...;) :P

Yes with EDIT. But with DELETE no traces left (if there was no reply with quote later in the thread). ;)

Good point. But all our effort(or Terje's) can end if a user get's a different username when discovering he can't delete nor edit his posts... 8)
If a paysite is doing this (delete bad picks if they lost) in this forum... why don't someone (most likely a moderator... or some good BA members) just do a simple favor by replying with quote after those fellas posted their very first picks? Then they will not be able to edit or delete their initial picks, or will they be able to do that?

That is a point...
But who really cares about what they claim? Only time will tell if they worth noticing. So, why bother? Like we do not have enough already to do...
I mean would anybody be amazed by a couple of correct picks? 8)
Then again, you can always disable that option ONLY in the Tips Websites subforum...
