Lille -vs- Lyon

two top teams meet each other bofore ucl matches at next midweek.
lille welcom manu at home while lyon visit roma.

although lille from not great recently only 1 pt from last 2 games . their home record is 6-4-1 only lost to toulose.

lyon come back to the winning way last week only 1-0 to lorient after 5 matches w/o win in all competition.

last 5 years here. lille won all 5 league matches!

more info here : http://forum.french-football.com/viewtopic.php?id=818

lille w/o suspended only youla and robail injured but not important . 2 midfields debuchi and bodmer back from injury.

lyon have fred back from suspension but juninho the captain is suspended. while the injury list are tiago mendes , wiltord , alou diara & benzema.

lille have better condition , while juninho absence is big blow for lyon.

back lille ah (0)

Both teams will be playing in CL next week. I think that neither of them want to put very big effort in this game. I think that the best pick for this game will be under. Game won***731;t be fast and score something like this 0:0, 1:0 or 0:1. That`s my opinion.

yes I`ve seen this too. But I don`t care about it. I don`t expect tonight too much goals. For me under is the best pick. Medium stakes.

For me ... this match has X-X writen all over its head... both of the teams will be really concentrated in the next midweek matches of CL. Why fight and break the legs when they can share 1 point???

Lyon has 11 points more than the 2nd of the ligue lens. They are still way too far from the other teams.Of course they seem to be completely out of form due to many many training hours that the players of lyon have passed through in january.I believe that their mind will be against roma for the cl as there lyon must show their winning face again. After all with 11 points from lens they have the right to be thinking about the game in italy. In the last 6 matches, lyon has taken 5 points...
Lille has the match against man utd also for the cl,but after 2 games in ligue 1 w/o win(lost to toulouse 0-1 and draw 0-0 against nantes ) they have to take this game seriously...At their home they have a 6-4-1 record while lyon away from has a 9-0-3...
I also believe that the game will be under 2,5 ,1x for sure with possible scores : 0-0,1-0,2-0...

i think that in France Lyon can beat everyone when they want , and thats why they are 11 points in front of the the second in the table and in the same time they won only 4 games , last 10 matches....amazing...
my pick today is 1X 7/10
1. lyon dont need points in domestic league..
2. juninho is suspended
3. lyon will play CL just after some days and i think they will use all their power there, not here , so this night they will use reserve players and maybe some youths ..

Has anyone wondered why Lyon was winless for more than a month before beating Lorient? (that wouldn't have happened either had Lorient converted a 99% chance early in the match)

Lyon are in a crisis, and I would think twice before saying that Houllier knows how to get them out of it. A journalist had asked Houllier a couple of weeks ago about the end of the season and he replied: "who knows if I will be coaching Lyon at that time".

I'm not french nor do I follow french league that closely, so take everything I say with a pinch of salt, but I have the impression (I've seen some matches during Lyon's winless skid) that they aren't playing as impressive as before, not even nearly.

Lille on the other hand are rather strong at home, and despite CL match they have next week I will take Lille to win @ 2.95 (Expekt) and Lille AH as well.
I think lose this one as well.

I wouldn't say that they are in crisis... Yes they slowed down significantly after the winter break, but that was more or less expected imo.

They had and still have huge advantage in the league and it's normal that their play is not at their peak at this moment... They won loads of games earlier this season so that now they can relax a bit and prepare properly for CL, without too much worries from the league. And CL is t heir primary goal this season, that's not secret at all.

So league games are not their top priority right now (or at least till they have that big advantage over Lens and others). And about this particular game, to be honest haven't had much time for deeper analizies. Last year Lille won both games in the league, and maybe now it's time for Lyon to do the same as they won first match 4:1.
CL match is getting closer and they should wake up in this match... But that's just my early thought. Although it's few hours till the match.

not at their peak? well they lost to Marseille as well and were kicked from the cup, so it's not only Ligue 1.

Also, I don't think they're taking the championship for granted, I don't think they slowed down to this extent in earlier seasons. They are just playing poorly.

But even if you're right, and they're only not motivated enough in Ligue 1(which I disagree with), that doesn't change my bet, Lille @ 2.95 is very solid.

Well talking about a crisis in Lyon is a little bit much imo. They had such excellent results in the first part of the season, its very difficult to maintain that pace. And you know, Houiller might have said he would not coach Lyon at the end of the season, but he was ironic I think.

But you are right, they are playing poorly since the beginning of 2007, especially Juninho who is the main factor of Lyon's success. He won't play tonight and its a blow since he is the heart and soul of the team as you know.
Personnally, I don't think that they will win, and going for straight Lille win makes sense, but one thing is worrying me : Bodmer is out Lille. IMO he is really important because he's a good playmaker. I saw the game against nantes : Lille was pressing and had many opportunities, till Bodmer left cause of the injury. After tht they could not create anything. Then they lost in Toulouse, and id not play good too.

As I said CL is their priority this year, I mean who cares about the Cup... They finally want to show to the world their strenght and not just to France. They are winning the tittle back to back how many years now, and now they are again first.

And I don't think they are taking the Championship for granted either. I think it's normal behavior of a team who had so many tittles in a row in previous years, and now once again they found themselves beeing first and having such a big lead over others. It's just mental thing, and it's hard to find proper determination and motivation in league games (and cup) in this situation they are in currently. (I mean it's not that they play bad on purpose recently, it's just that in their heads they know the situation so subconsciously they...bla,bla.. And with such aproach they are not showing good things).

For CL matches we should see them in some other light, as it's something that they are waiting for long time.

Anyway, if they fail to convince with Roma aswell, then I'll admit that they are in crisis... Till then I would like to think what I said above.

lol, but this is Lille - Lyon topic. Gona go take a shower, I need it...

P.S. If nothing it will be an interesting game and they wouldn't want to loose tonight and enter in a bad mood CL clash...

Well i have heard that because of the fact that the last 2-3 years lyon was winning almost all their games until february or march and at that time the team was getting very tired and could not qualify at the champions league at a semi final or anyway do something better, houllier() has thought to do something to change this situation....
According to the 'story' i heard their coach has been trying to force the team to be tired at this period(many hours of training every day) so that if lyon would lose some games ,those games would be at the championship and since lyon was 15 points ahead of the 2nd team in the ligue, the loses would not cost the team. The team will be supposed to get back in that crazy form when it will be the right time (late february-march) so that lyon could do something at the cl.

Just wanted to ask if anyone around here knows anything more.....

By the way at the 76th min lille is winning 1-0...

cheers :D

Saint Etienne - Rennes
After an unbelievable match against Lans, in which Saint Etienne was winning 3-0 after the first half, managed to give a chance to the opponent to draw bacl level. Same thing in the match against Sedan, where everything happend in almost the same way. After the first half they were winning 1-0, and in the end they lost.
One can see from this that there isn’t any pscychological stability in the team. In the previous match against Auxerre, Saint Etienne managed to pull back level after going down one goal and get a point out of the game.
Rennes is the team that concedes the least amount of goals away. They missed only 9 goals, the same amount as Lyon. Noone has less.
But Rennes will play the team that scored the most goals at home (21 goals in 12 matches).
I think that Saint Etienne will be fully motivated for this match, not like in the match against Sedan, and there is a high possibility, that they will win in this match. To take a win is too risky, but the homa ind. Total is a good choice.
Pick: home ind. Total > 1 1.47
Stake: 3%

Sedan Auxerre
Sedan looks rather good recently. The team is in last place, but one cannot say it by their game. In the last match day the lost to Le Mans, but fought until the final whistle. This is a good sign. The team believes in its strength, and that means, that sooner or later they will acheive success. The next opponent – Auxerre. Not the best of opponents. Auxerre has a rather poor defense and that is what we’ll try to play with in this match.
Although Seadn has even more problems in defense, they do not lack in the amount of goals they score. 29 scored goals which is the 7-8 best result in France... But it is starnge that the majority of these goals are scored away.
What I would like to pick for this match, having taken into account my opinion, is the home ind. Total. For Sedan to score more than 1 goal in this match we get an odd of 1.80. We should expect to see many goals in this match, and the bigger part will belong to the home side. We will get our money back at least.
Pick: Home ind. Total > 1 1.80
Stake: 3%

nancy - psg

nancy has got a particulary good home game defense, one of the best 4 of the league, psg played few days ago and it is not because they won one game in UEFA cup that they are suddenly a top team, i dont think they can win , i think that draw will satisfy both teams.

From mid-week UEFA thread

Although I didn't bet on this game, I had a feeling AEK would be thinking about the weekend derby against PAO for a Champion's league spot. AEK had possession in the first half and a couple of decent opportunities to score. After that they were quite poor.

It would seem to me PSG is mentally back on track and it might be a good idea to keep an eye on them in their domestic league as well. HSV is also another team revived (in Germany). Un-related to this thread, I know, but well worth a look for all punters.

Nancy-PSG 0-3
Werder-HSV 0-2

in my opinino it will be quite easy home win.

OM, as You wrote, is a very strong team in Stade Velodrome, and i think that this fantastic public (one of the best in Europe, behind St. Etienne maybe in France) help them to achive a 3 points.

Nantes, unlucky (i like this team for the season when some good and controversial players played from them, f.e. Karambeu, Pedros or Roman Kosecki :D ) but in this season they are poor and i don't give them chances even for draw.

how it will be look we will see, match start at 21 so You can catch a likely odds @1.52 ;)
