St Etienne at first glanse looks like a decent bet. They are in very good form atm and shouldnt have problems with Valenciennes, who is struggling, especially away.

how about lyon win away at lens? lyon had more rest and obviously is the better team. i do not know about lens' home status or either team's injuries or anything?

St Etienne at first glanse looks like a decent bet. They are in very good form atm and shouldnt have problems with Valenciennes, who is struggling, especially away.

i think st etienne is the best bet this week for french ligue 1.
The greens are just awesome at the moment, they have a great squad which is very well balanced, and great discipline under coach hasek. The striking duo ilan/piquionne is quite impressive, scoring a lot of goals.
The confidence is really high, and this match against VA is a great opportunity to take 3pts. After their performance in lille (2-2), i really would be surprised if they can't take the win. There are no major missing for st etienne.

As far as VA is concerned, they are the weakest away side of this league, results have showed, and if they had not won all those home games in the past, they would be in a worst situation in the table. Coming to this hot stadium, at the moment is not good for them, as they are facing some squad problems : according to l'équipe.fr, dufresne, bratu and bourgeois are missing, leaving savidan as the only available striker. Moreover, flachez and silvestri, both defenders will also be missing.

All in all, i can't see for all those reasons an upset here. We have a solid full squad, playing at home, looking great and in chase for european spot, against a poor armed away side who will fight all season long against relegation.

I just took st etienne -1 [AH] @2 because its a great value and i expect odds dropping tomorrow.
i'm also considering an over but haven't made my mind now

Yet to look at team news or think about this long enough, but the price on Lille at Sedan looks reasonably attractive, at first sight.

Yet to look at team news or think about this long enough, but the price on Lille at Sedan looks reasonably attractive, at first sight.

Both teams have some injury problems:

A l'inverse, Nicolas Marin

Everything is talking about some very close games but main odd game nobody even have in mind. That game should be Le Mans - Toulouse; Le Mans play with very good teams for past 5-6 weekends so they lose or draw that matches without win, but they are better team than Toulouse and they should win this one and start winning games against low ranked teams like Toulouse. My opinion is that they are little better than odds around 2.3 says.

Match: Nancy v Marseille
Date: 16/12/06
Time: 17:10 cet
Recommended bet: Marseille draw no bet @ 2.20 Bet365 3/10

Nancy welcome Marseille to Le Stade Marcel Pichit and will be looking to end a 3 match streak without a win in the ligue. Marseille arrive here with no away victory in 6 games, but will be on a high after their win against Monaco last week. They have also not lost against Nancy since 1985, and will be looking to maintain their good head to head record against the Lorraine team.

In midweek, Nancy travelled to England to play Blackburn, but went down to a last minute goal against Mark Hughes men. They will be tired after that trip and that might prove to be a key factor. They still managed to qualify for the next stage though, and their European adventure will continue in the new year. In the ligue, they have been very strong all campaign, but suffered a defeat to Lille in their last outing here. In their previous ligue 1 game, they drew 0-0 in Nice, and that was perhaps a fortunate point to obtain. They will hope to get back on track against Marseille but it wont be easy.

The visitors arrive here on a high after their 2-1 win against Monaco last weekend and they will look to maintain their momentum. Key midfielder, Franck Ribery is still injured, but they did welcome back Djibil Cisse. He made an immediate impact on his debut by setting up the winning goal. With his force and drive in the team, then he might be able to push L’OM towards the 3 points this Saturday. But Marseille have been poor away from home in recent weeks losing 4 of their last 6 on the road. They need to quickly address this slide.

Overall, I think preference has to go to Marseille. The momentum is definitely with them more, and Nancy seem to be on a bit of a downer. The head to head record must also be considered between the clubs. Nancy have not beaten the south coast club since 1985, and that will be playing on their mind. Marseille do look good value to obtain at least a point, although Nancy can never be underestimated at home.

Match: Rennes v Troyes
Date: 16/12/06
Time: 20:00 cet
Recommended bet: Rennes -0.75 AH @ 1.97 Betfred 5/10

Rennes will look to maintain their momentum and continue their good home form by defeating Troyes this weekend. The Brittany club are on fire an should be able to dispatch a Troyes side that is a little low in confidence. Rennes at home are a strong force and are definite favourites.

Rennes’ away season finally started last weekend when they travelled to Bordeaux and won 2-1. A very good 1st half display, and some solid defending, earned them this success and they will look to build on it against Troyes. At home, Pierre Derossi’s men have been in fine form unbeaten in 8 games and winning 5 of these fixtures. One of those wins was of course many a side in the division. Key striker, John Utaka is back in business and was on the score sheet against Bordeaux. Rennes will play with plenty of pace and attack this weekend, eager to push for the 3 points. They have way more quality than Troyes, and have the ability to easy unlock the Troyes defence.

The visitors come here unbeaten in 3 games, but also on a bit of a low. They led 3-1 against Auxerre last week. but with just 6 minutes to go, they somehow managed to throw that advantage away. This was a real body blow for the club and yet again, poor defending was to blame. They have kept just 1 clean sheet this year and it’s that sort of stat that will ensure relegation. They must tighten up at the back if they are to remain in ligue 1. In attack, they do have some potential to score goals, but ultimately that isn’t always enough to win you matches.

Overall, preference most certainly must go to the hosts and they will expect to claim victory. In terms of quality, they are much better than Troyes in all areas of the pitch and should be able to dominate their opponents. Rennes’ excellent attack force and Troyes weak defence should ultimately mean plenty goals. Troyes themselves might be able to get on the score sheet, so an exciting game is on the cards. Les Rouges et Noir should have a fairly comfortable night.

Rennes -0.75 AH @ 1.97 Betfred 5/10

Match: St Etienne v Valenciennes
Date: 16/12/06
Time: 20:00 cet
Recommended bet: St Etienne -1 AH @ 2.0 Betfred 6/10

St Etienne welcome Valenciennes to Le Stade Geoffroy Guichard, and there looks to be only 1 result - a home win. The hosts have won 7 of their last 8 at home, whilst Valenciennes have lost their last 8 consecutive on the road. In terms of quality, Les Verts are far better and many will expect them to do a professional job against the promoted team.

Ste Etienne were very impressive away to Lille last weekend and they managed to obtain a 2-2 draw. They showed some good signs and played some nice football. The attack of Ilan and Piquionne was especially impressive at Le Stade Metropole, and they will look to maintain their momentum here again. Les Verts have won 7 of their last 8 at home, and always play with confidence and conviction in font of their own fans. They are currently stalking the top 3 position in the table, and they cant afford to slip up against Valenciennes.

The visitors come here on the back of a 0-0 home draw against Sochaux, but they have had some serious away worries. Les Nordistes have now lost 8 consecutive road games in Ligue 1, and that run doesn’t look like it will end this weekend. They will of course end that run at some stage, but against much weaker opposition than Les Verts. The creativity and finishing of Steve Savidan can never be underestimated, but their defence concedes too many on their travels.

Overall, preference most certainly has to go the home side, and they should get the 3 points. It’s a simple match up of a great home team against a poor away one. If Valenciennes got anything out of the encounter, then it would have to be classed as a major shock. St Etienne are playing very well at the moment and should have too much for their opponents.

St Etienne -1 AH @ 2.0 Betfred 6/10

St Etienne Injured: Dernis (B, mid) Perrin (B, mid)

Saint Etienne -vs- Valenciennes

St.Etienne show their good form this year. supporters hope they can back into the renaissance in the past.
they are fifth with 28 only 2 pts from the third and the fourth. they have good offense with 27 goals only lyon are better than them.
they also have good home record 7-0-2 .two teams thats can beat them are sochaux and auxere ( the last is mid of september).

Valenciennes is the fourteenth. 3 pts seperate them from the relegation zone. the away matches are their weak point. theie away record is 0-1-8 , the only point is the first match in the august with auxere.

st.etienne is nearly full squad , dernis is doubt . the best news is feindueno return.
valenciennes have 3 injured in attack , 2 absence in defense.

well well, you are very confident about it, but you shouldn't.
Monaco should be in stress because they are still a point above the relegation zone.
But they are lately improving with some good results and good footbal.
Against Marseille they didn't deserve to lose, but they would have to defend better.
Sochaux is in good shape as they are long without defeat.
But today they will miss their captain Jeremy Brechet(16-0) which is very important for them and midfielder Leroy(16-1).
Forward Le Tallec(10-2) is also unavalaible.
IMO they are very huge miss for Sochaux, in particular Brechet who was very important for the fact that they concedeed just 1 goal in the last 6 games.
Today they will have to show some good defending actions as the Monaco forwards are showing some good footbal.
So I think that Monaco have good chance to take the victory here.

I'm not familiar with French soccer, but I'm preety sure that PSG are going to win this game.
I know they are in pretty shitty form, but after the win over Pana in UEFA cup they are looking much stronger.
Nice is maybe the worst team in the French league. They got only one point from the last 5 games. And this point was in a game VS Sedan(last place on the league).

I will go for HW.

any infos about the games Auxerre - Lorient and Lens - Lyon?

The Lille team news had us avoid that particular game, and we're glad we did. Also avoiding the PSG game, but not for the same reasons - just purely down to valuation. A marginally higher price would have been needed, because of the effect of a midweek game, physically. But, PSG do have significantly more quality and this is a must-win game, and one that they should enter with renewed confidence. Still some important players out injured, however.

Auxerre - Lorient

Just in short...Auxerre with terrible start, 4 wins in 17 matches, 19 points, 14th place...really bad. Possible reasons are UEFA Cup matches and few important injuries lately. However, they will play today without Kahlenberg, Mathis and Mignot, but they are still looking quite superior over Lorient. 2-4-4 form lately is far too bad for their expectations and club possibilities, so this could be the right time to turn the things around and to catch the teams in upper part of the table. Lorient is holding on very well after entering in Ligue 1 this season. With 6 wins and losses and 5 more points from draws they are on 12th position at the moment, which is absolutely satisfying them I believe. However, they are facing few very important injury problems during the season. Before the season started they lost probably the best striker Kemal Bourhani. For today it seems they will have some major problems with goalies. After losing their first goalie and captain Fabien Audard, last week they lost his replacement Lionel Cappone and that could be a problem. However, Lorient defeated Sedan at home by 2:0, but Auxerre at home is looking like far more dangerous opponent than Sedan away. Along with those two keepers, there is few more other players sidelined like Morel, Recorbet, Pedron and some other, but except Morel they are not so important.

So, Auxerre under pressure and Lorient without two goalkeeper options gives me the comclusion that Auxerre should be able to take the 3 points and get closer to the middle of the table.

Auxerre -0.5 (1.95 @ Pinnacle) 6/10

RS Lens - Olympique Lyonnais

The derby of this round in French Ligue 1 for sure, but I don't believe that will be some kind of the spectacular display from both teams. Both teams conceding less than 1 goal per match, but also with good offensive play. Lens is an example of team playing the best football infront of their crowd. They are still undefeated at home winning 6 matches with 3 ties and really impressive 13-2 goal difference. Just for comparation they have 3-2-3 record in away matches scoring also 13 goals, but conceding 13! So, the defence is key difference in their play at home and away. For tonight's match they are having almost complete squad available and the coach will have the luxury to field the best possible teams for this important clash. When you talk about Lyon, you don't have to spend many words to descibe their play. They are simply untouchable right now. There is still a half of season left to play, but they already created amazing 14 points lead infront of their today's opponents Lens, which means that with win tonight their lead would be too big for all other teams (17 points). Only one draw at home and one lost match away means that they lost only 5 points so far, which is absolutely amazing and confirms their domination in France in last two years. However, there's not all bright as it seems. For tonight Houlliere won't be able to count on 4 strikers - Fred, Wiltord, Carew and young Benzema which is limiting their options in attack. Of course, they still have dangerous players in scoring chances like Juninho, Govou, Kallstrom and some other, but they are left without good clear striker position and against very good Lens' defence that could be a problem.

The only thing I expect here is that there will surely be big battle in midfield, which means not so much scoring chances, so under seems like good betting option here. Also, Lens +0.5 has got the value with the current situation because Lens mustn't lose here because if they will the question about the title winner won't exist anymore.

Under 2.5 (1.67 @ StanJames) 8/10 & Lens +0.5 (1.77 @ Samvo) 7/10
