Birmingham City – Newcastle United 2, 2.5 @ Gamebookers
The Magpies are chasing the CL spot which is out of reach for them from start of the season. And that goal isn’t so unrealistic, especially now when Parker left to Chelsea.First, they have to do well (win) at St Andrews today. The Blues won in Newcastle in first part of the season (30 August, 0-1), but now situation is much different. What’s mostly different is that Newcastle improved considerably after awfully bad performances then, and i feel Birmingham’s downtrend is about to start.
Birmingham is without the only scorer on St James, David Dunn, and Stephen Clemence due to injuries, also without Cristophe Dugarry who is suspended.United is with full squad, even Bellamy’s back, Solano who joined Villa few days ago will be replaced by Darren Ambrose in starting 11 (i feel he might score). Also Carl Cort joined Wolves after not being given a real chance to show his skills.
Birmingham did not conceded in 264 minutes (four hours 24 minutes) of League and Cup football, also won 4 matches in a row at home.On the other hand Newcastle have drawn last 4 away matches. But, what’s encouraging for them is that they haven’t lost a PL match when Woodgate and Shearer played.Latest fixtures were in favour of the Magpies who won last 3 matches at St Andrews.
Good morning !!!
My 15th pick of this month's competition is from the Scottish Premiership :
Hibernian v FC Dundee ............................. X........................3.25 at numerous bookies*
*Pinnacle, Centrebet, Betinternet, Pointbet, Premierbet, etc.
He-he, I know you're scratching your heads thinking "where the heck did this guy come up with this one from ???", but there's a story here : these two have important League Cup semis coming up midweek and I just can't see them focusing on this league game right now !!! The Hibs are going to take on Glasgow Rangers on Thursday, while Dundee will meet up with Livingston two days before that. Both these Cup games will be taking place in neutral venues, and I bet both Hibernian and Dundee will be fancying their chances to become finalists enough to put today's league game quickly behind them... Therefore I'm proposing they'll both settle for the draw here, a result which wouldn't have been out of the ordinary anyway : there's only one point separating these two in the standings, the hosts look like favourites but their home record (3-2-5) leaves a lot to be desired, and the visitors have a habit of drawing one out of every two away games they play (2-5-3) !!! Practically nothing in terms of class separating the two therefore, and with their form being a mixed bag really, my guess would be they'll both want to go into next week's important Cup games unscathed. To offset any possible advantage you may think the hosts have, I'll site the decent list of injuries (5-6, especially strikers) they're facing here. Dundee will miss only Scottish international defender Lee Wilkie, but according to the BBC they've got a couple of replacements duelling over his place already... Neither team, thankfully, aspires to European qualification through the league, so neither will be terribly motivated today. All in all, I found this preferable to the Fulham-Tottenham draw I had also shortlisted midweek (I knew I was gonna need the points of a draw to finish this comp with a profit), least of all because the London duo is highly unpredictable and a lot of variables are hard to place : the "Boa Morte effect", Saha's departure, Kanoute's absence with Mali, a couple of midfield workhorses out for the Spurs, etc. etc. Lower odds are abundant too, some pretty good bets around today and I got my money on a few of them myself, but I'm taking a draw to finish above 0+ points here... Therefore, I hope you'll all excuse the noble "motivation" on my part !
Good luck to all 8)
I JUST HEARD THIS MATCH MAY NOT GO AHEAD BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER !!!!!! I ONLY GOT 10 MINUTES TO WRITE A PREDICTION FOR MY SECOND CHOICE MATCH, SO PLEASE ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING AS MY POD IF THE SCOTTISH GAME IS CANCELLED :
Fulham v Tottenham.................................. X.............................3.30 at Pinnacle
This is riskier than my 1st choice, but based on the same premise : both these teams will host all-important FA Cup games on Wednesday night. Tottenham is at home to Man. City and Fulham hosts Everton !!! Again, I bet they both fancy their chances... Bit more unpredictable hosts nowadays, but what do you expect ??? It's only my 2nd choice game !!! :D
Anyway, I'll bet these two play out a draw today and reserve some strength...
If the Scottish game goes ahead as scheduled, please disregard this amendment !!!
Good luck to all 8)
SORRY I KEEP EDITING THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN, BUT IT NOW SEEMS THE SCOTTISH MATCH IS ON AS SCHEDULED !!! PLEASE DISREGARD MY SECOND ALTERNATIVE...
8)
:D :D :D
PICK WON (FT : Hibernian-Dundee 1-1) Indeed, my main pick was better than my alternative !!! I'm glad the Scottish game went ahead as scheduled, if it hadn't I would have lost my pick on the London derby... Luck was on my side this time. One more month on the winning side, if only just barely, is OK by me !
My final score for January : +44 points, 6/15 picks
my 15th pick was postponed so here comes the bonus
Nigeria - South Africa 2 * 3.85 * Centerbet
Nigeria cruised to an easy win over South Africa at the African Cup of Nations 4-0 lost
Here we go:
Nigeria's troubled African Nations Cup campaign took another turn for the worse when three members of their squad were kicked out for alleged indiscipline.
Chelsea's Celestine Babayaro, who was already carrying an injury, Portsmouth striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Victor Agali of Bundesliga side Schalke 04 were all told to leave the team's base here.
The Eagles training session on Friday was delayed for over an hour as the rest of the squad stayed for a meeting in their hotel rooms, demanding that the sacked players be recalled.
It is not the first time that trouble has brewed at Nigeria's football camps.
At the last Nations Cup in Mali two years ago, the Super Eagles threatened to boycott training on the eve of their semi-final match against Senegal over unpaid ticket fare refunds.
Mind you the squad still has stars like Jay Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu...
Nigeria
Squad (with shirt numbers)
Goalkeepers: 22. Austin Ejide (Etoile Sahel/TUN), 1. Vincent Enyeama (Enyimba), 12. Greg Etafia (Moroka Swallows/RSA)
Defenders: 15. George Abbey (Maccesfield Town/ENG), 3. Celestine Babayaro (Chelsea/ENG), 6. Joseph Enakahire (Standard Liege/BEL), 5. Issac Okoronkwo (Wolves/ENG), 18. Romanus Orjinta (Enyimba), 16. Ifenayi Udeze (POAK/GRE), 2. Joseph Yobo (Everton/ENG)
Midfielders: 19. Ikpe Ekong (Shenyang Gendi/CHN), 21. Ifeanyi Ekwueme (Wisla Plock/POL), 13. Pius Ikedia (Roseendal/NED), 11. Garba Lawal (Columbus Crew/USA), 20. Osaze Odemwingie (La Louviere/BEL), 10. Augustine 'Jay-Jay' Okocha (Bolton/ENG), 14. Oluwaseyi Olofintana (Brann/NOR), 7. John Utaka (Lens/FRA)
Strikers: 9. Victor Agali (Schalke/GER), 17. Julius Aghahowa (Shaktar Donetsk/UKR), 8. Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Portsmouth/ENG), 4. Nwankwo Kanu (Arsenal/ENG)
South Africa coach Styles Phumo said he is aware of the pressure the Nigerians are under and aims to play a patient game to frustrate his opponents out of their stride.
"We are approaching the match calmly," said Styles who saw his team beat Benin 2-0 in their opening game.
"We have learnt in the past that desperation can cause self-inflicted wounds. This will be avoided and we will stick to our game plan."
But veteran South Africa midfielder John 'Shoes' Moshoeu said the win over Benin following a chaotic build-up to Tunisia 2004 which accounted for several top players as well as head coach Ephraim Mashaba, could only boost confidence.
"We must face them with confidence as we have three points in the bag and they have none," said the 38-year-old, who was a key figure of the team that won the 1996 Nations Cup on home soil.
"I don't believe that Nigeria are the same side that conquered Africa in the past while for us, things have been falling into place and everybody in the team is ready to break a leg on Saturday for the team's cause."
South Africa
Goalkeepers: 1. Andre Arendse (Sundowns), 16. Emile Baron (Lillestrom/NOR), 22. Wayne Roberts (Wits University)
Defenders: 20. Tony Coyle (Rostov/RUS), 7. David Kannemeyer (Kaizer Chiefs), 3. Jacob Lekgetho (Lokomotiv Moscow/RUS), 5. Mbulelo Mabizela (capt - Tottenham/ENG), 4. Aaron Mokoena (Genk/BEL), 2. Thabang Molefe (Le Mans/FRA), 17. Neil Winstanley (Wits)
Midfielders: 10. Stanton Fredericks, 19. John 'Shoes' Moshoeu and 11. Jabu Pule (Chiefs), 18. Delron Buckley (VfL Bochum/GER), 13. Benson Mhlongo (Wits), 8. Bernard Mnguni (Rostov/RUS), 6. Macbeth Sibaya (Rubin Kazan/RUS), 12. Teboho Mokoena (Jomo Cosmos)
Strikers: 21. Patrick Mayo (Chiefs), 14. Siyabonga Nomvete (Udinese/ITA), 9. Nkosinathi Nhleko (Dallas Burn/USA), 15. Sibusiso Zuma (FC Copenhagen/DEN)
I see better value for straight SA win. They are here without Porto's striker MCCARTHY and MU's Quinton Fortune ect. but sure young hungry players are " ready to break a leg on Saturday for the team's cause", like South Africa's bid for 2010 World Cup, which needs some support from the field as well, at tournaments like these ...
The (Bafana Bafana) The Boys mentality could prove fatal for the Super Eagles...
Notts County - Barnsley
Pick: 2
Odds: 2.38 @ Ladbrokes
2 teams with 2 contrasting fortunes and at opposite ends of table. Barnsley are on a mission, a mission to gain promotion this season while Notts County is only looking to stay in the division. As I have said before, if you did follow my picks. Notts County is one of GREAT tradition, the oldest club in England in fact, however they do lack quality to stay in the division. This season has been almost the same as last season, the regualar relegation dogfight and to throw in a bit of spice, they even had to stave off administration. Barnsley however, looks to have strengthened their promotional bid quite substantially with the loan-signing of highly rated Manchester United striker Daniel Nardiello and veteran goalkeeper Marlon Beresford. Both signings are a huge boost in my opinion. Especially when Nardiello already settled into the squad with 2 goals and an assist on his debut, giving him a dreamstart. With the firepower Barnsley got now, it is worrying for most defences, more so Notts County who has alredy let in 48 goals in 28 matches. With 4 losses in their last 5 games, it is hardly the type of form one needs when meeting a promotion seeker. Interestingly, Barnsley has not defeated Notts County in the league for 9 years now, perhaps a good time to end that streak here? Well, with the odds and the difference in quality of personnel and form, I sure think so! Medium stakes right here.
Liverpool v Everton - Kevin Kilbane (Everton) to score anytime @ 5.50 (Bet365)
Bet lost /Per
It's Merseyside derby time once again and as usual, it's tough to pick a winner. Everton is good value at prices of around 5.00 as I think Liverpool are a bit overrated here. Reasons why the price on the Blues may be so high is Everton's poor record at Anfield in recent times, together with their injury problems in the centre of defence, with the inexperienced Clarke looking to get the go ahead as Unsworth and Weir are doubtful, and Yobo is at the Africa Nations Cup. Liverpool are dealt a big blow with the absence of Heskey due to injury. A big body up front for Liverpool would of been a bonus considering Everton's weakened defence. Instead of picking a straight result, I'm choosing Kilbane to score because he has been lively this month with 2 goals and had one disallowed last week. Kilbane has been Everton's most positive player this season and his pace and adventure may unlock a Liverpool defence whose focus is more likely to be on Rooney, Radzinski and Ferguson.
Wigan Athletic - Burnley(1st Division), AWAY @5.00(Bet365) Bet lost, 0-0 /Per
Well this is my last one. This was my first month in this competiotion in contradistinction some of you. Generally I'm satisfied.
Today I have three very value pick: Empoli, Gaiziantepspor and Burnley. You probably tell me that I'm not discovering of America.
This competition force us to search strong, value and especially winning pick. Therefore I'm asking you to take my pick only with AH(+1/2) but for competition (but in reality also) I'll try straight away win because I see hear value and high chance to win this bet.
Wigan Athletic
--->Midfielder Peter Kennedy and defender Alan Rogers will be the only absentees when Wigan take on Burnley. Kennedy has not figured in the first team since Boxing Day and is still not fully fit due to a twisted ankle.
Leicester full-back Rogers was due to play his last game for the Latics, but has returned to the Walkers Stadium early after sustaining a hairline fracture in his lower leg.
--->Wigan lost only twice at home (last one 26-12-2003 to Rotherham United, so sort of Burnley's team).
Burnley
--->Burnley manager Stan Ternent could include three new signings in his side for the clash with Wigan at the JJB Stadium.
--->Ternent's men are unbeaten in their last four league and cup games and the Burnley boss is confident they can continue to build on their recent good run. "We're doing well now and I've had a reasonably settled side," Ternent told the club's official website. "There is more competition for places now, the squad is stronger so I'm hopeful it will pan out well for us."
--->Glen Little is hoping to banish the memory of Burnley's early-season defeat by Wigan when they meet again this weekend.Despite dominating for much of the August encounter at Turf Moor, the Clarets were sunk by goals from Peter Kennedy and Nathan Ellington."It seems a long time ago since we played them and how we got beat 2-0 was probably the biggest disgrace of the season," Little said. "It was one of those days for us."They've since gone on from there and they're having a good season, so it'll be a tough game."But I've always said we can beat the top teams and we can also lose to teams at the bottom - it's how we play that matters."We've tightened up at the back and stopped conceding as many goals, but we've also stopped making as many mistakes and that was always our downfall," Little told the club's official website.
You know how English 1st Division is unpredictable, there are so many surprises and in this I've just discerned of Burnley winning.
Bayern vs Frankfurt over 2.5 @1.85 Premierbet. Bet lost, 1-1 /Per

My pick of the day:
Coventry City - Ipswich Town OVER 2.5, (2.08 @ Pointbet)
Coventry won last league match 6-1 away against Walsall, while Ipswich won 6-4 at home against Crewe. Coventry are a team that can score many goals, like last league match. They have scored the total of 36 goals and conceded 33 so far this season. Ipswich are the most-scoring team in division 1 with 53 goals, but they have conceded 43. They are a very offensively minded team, but their defence have been very shaky all season. They score many goals, but also concede. Not a big problem as long as they score more than they concede.
For this match they will also miss John McGreal in the defence. Their top-goal scorer is Counago with 12 goals so far. Coventry’s top-goal scorer is Andrew Morrell with 7. I believe that this match will end in over 2.5 goals. Ipswich are very offensive and scores many goals and believe that they will score today too, however their defence aren’t the best so Coventry will have their chances too.
OK, I decided myself, to take a risk!
This is my final bet:
*Jason Kidd to score the most points from the group (Jefferson, Martin, Francis, Mobley) @4,15 Centrebet!!
Why?
Well, more factors, as always.
First, one of the most important ones, NJ have a new coach, one that stands behind Kidd 100%! For him, Kidd is their "...difference maker, a reason why theyve been champions on the east twice in a row..."
And he was the best scorer against Orlando, the one who took over.
I wexpect him to be the 2002/2003 one!
What also makes me optimistic on this one are his oponents: there are no extremly hot scorers, besides, Yao is not includid, so isnot Jackson (both Houston).
I believe, Kidd will have about 30 shots and with at least 40% he will make it over 30 points, which will be enough!
Good luck!
Obviously, this is the match between Houston and NewJersey!

Galatasaray - Gaziantep
Pick;
GALATASARAY win by 1 goal difference @3.75 @sportingbet Bet lost, Gala 3-0 /per
Analysis;
Gazi Antep started with odds @7.00... Went down and down...
Now just @4.00
Big money on X2 and also on 2 ... esp sportingbet has this bet as one of the MOST CHOOSEN ones... (sportingbet's partner in turkey is superbahis.com)
This makes me think ...
Superbahis never likes to lose money.. And they also don't lose much...
I don't think everyone can win money with this match.. Bookies + Galatasaray have big force in turkey... And the federation does need support...
Just for support from the media did they give besiktas 5 red cards and caused a big caos...
-----
This time do i go with Galatasaray... MONDRAGON - BATISTA will be important players that miss but MURAT ERDOGAN is also imprtant and he will play...
------
Antep side has also problems .. BOAZIZI and JAZIRI are in african cup...
This team + lazarov and yusuf not 100% fit makes me bet on Galatasaray...
The odds are enough @1.7 but i think that Galatasaray won't win so so easy !!!
Nearly all matches ended 2-1 and i think this match can aslo end like this..
HAKAN SUKUR , UMIT KARAN or BRATU.. not important whoever scores...
If galatasaray loses than will turkish bookies need to make a big pause...
And also the federation will not get the money they get now !!!

Malaga-Valencia under 2.5 1.75 Expekt 1-6 FT BET LOST
I thought about it a lot and I decided to take a non risky bet as my last one.
I know that maybe its not enough to give me first place but I dont want to destroy what i 've made so far.
Besides this is a pick of the day competition and not "find the biggest odd" competition...
So i picked under in this spanish game...
Malaga
5-2-3 at home,18-12 goals Avg 1.8-1.2
3/10 under, 8/10 scored,7/10 concede at least one goal
But against teams with similar style to Valencia like Sevilla and Osassuna, the games ended 2-0 and 0-0...
Note:Never until now Malaga drawn 1-1 at home...Strange because as I said usually scores AND concedes a goal...
Valencia
6-3-1 at home,15-4 goals Avg 1.5-0.4
6/10 under,8/10 scored,2/10 concede at least one goal
BUT the main reason I pick this bet is that Aimar will miss this game because of injury...Never until now Valencia
had an "over" game without him...All under..Remember last time against Valladolid,0-0...
So I predict a close game and 0-0,1-0,0-1,1-1 possible results...

My pick will be:
Houston Rockets - New Jersey Nets +5 pick:1 odds1.90 expekt Bet lost, 77-88 /Per
Houston is 14-6 at home, New Jersey is 11-12 and the only game played between them was won by the Rockets in Jersey 86-75. The Rockets had a three days rest to well prepare for this game and i'm sure Van Gundy has shaken his players up. Rockets has all weapons and will give their maximum to stop New jersey's run and get back on the winning track and 5 is not so much for a good Rocket team.
Houston has lost back-to-back games, including a 99-94 home setback to Sacramento on Wednesday. The Rockets beat the Nets in New Jersey on November 4, 86-75, after shooting 53 percent. The Nets were limited to just 34 percent. Huston plays good at home and i hope thaz will win this one

A pick with very high odds, but I already made similiar play this month (@5.00) and it was succeful. So why not pick:
Sporting - Porto (ht/ft) 2/2 @4.50 / ekspekt Bet lost, 2/X /Per
You should agree with me that it's a most important football matchup today. Two great teams. Old time rivarly. Actual Portugese League leader (and champion) Porto vs Sporting in Lisboa. It'll be a war on the pitch, as Sporting is 2nd with 5 points less than leader. Sporting home record is 9-1-0, but it doesn't matter much. Porto won here last year, and won 3 times in last 6 matches in Lisboa. What can I say more ? Very good team plays away with good team. This is not easy bet, because there aren't easy bets with such big odds, but I still think it's possible, as I consider Porto one of the greatest teams in european soccer nowadays.
Thank you all for great competition, and see you next month  .

ok, i have time for my last pick here in a try to finish plus (-169) ...
portugal: Sporting Lisbon - Porto 2@2,70 Interwetten Bet lost, 1-1 /Per
I kind of admire Porto the last 2 years, their tactics, quality and wining
spirit inspired from coach Murinho. Sporting has been playing great lately
as well and have a great home record till now (9-1-0).
But i think its time for their first home defeat! I base it mainly on the way
Porto takes challenges lately and this is one of the few challenges they have to face in domestic this year! I think the same last year story could repeat here, Porto challenged by a contender this period of time, Porto wins the game and moves focused on Europe games having left the others way behind!
Derley out, but Mcarthy has replaced him fine...Conceicao nice add-on in the team, Deco finding his form at the right time...Of course Sporting has a nice spell till now too but a draw is the most she can hope for!
You wont find Porto at these odds again, i take them no hesitation..
GOOD LUCK 8)

Time for last pick in this month competition.
Firstly, thanks to You all for Your advices here. It's sad that at the end of the month there were less and less traffic here and less posts. So everybody looking only for good placing? Ridicolous.
I will remember these guys, that give their picks till the end of the month. Thank You one more time for Your job and for Your time here.
Now when we all see the situation You would think I will take the less risky bet to complete the month and with luck to win this competition. A bet with odds till the 2,0 should give me here win and I have some hockey games in mind also with such odds(Vancouver, TB, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert).
Still maybe I'm a madman taking such a pick, but this is Pick of the Day topic and this is truly my POD today. It has extremely value for me today and I will not hesitate to give You some advice here. I owe my position to some bets from Canadian Hockey leagues, which You can bet on only in Centrebet, as I know. I think they don't have good system of making odds for it. Surely they even don't think about it, as not a lot of people are looking at these competitions. So this is great field for me and hopefully for us to make some more money.
So now let's go to my last suggestion here and this is pick from LHJMQ, a league based in French-language part of Canada. I was already taking picks from OHL and WHL and tonight there is time for this last one :D :
Baie-Comeau - Rimouski 2 Odd: 3,2 @ Centrebet
LOST bad, bad beginning - from 0-2 to 2-5 to 5-5 in the end!!
Great odds for me, as I rate Rimouski as a strong favourites here. They have 3rd best offense in the league and below average defense, but what's good here is their even more offensive play in away games. Now they have to play a lot of away games. This is their 7th encounter in 9 tries and in these period they won very convincingly two times each with Halifax and Victoriaville, which are in Baie-Comeau class. Also they've lost to some of best teams lately, but were in the games till the end. They are scoring a lot. Only in last game lost 1-4, but earlier scored 7,7 and 6 goals and haven't conceded more than 3 in 4 games in a row.
As for the Baie-Comeau, I rate them as worst team in the league. They have bad offense, very bad defense, also not better in home games. This is their 7th home game in a row. They won with Chicoutimi and badly away team - Quebec, but also lost convincingly by 4-5 goals margin with teams playing the same brand of hockey as Rimouski. They have big problems with their goalies lately. 8,6,6,4 conceded in 4 of last 5 games is really a bad result. Also they are very rarely scoring more than 3 goals (only to bad Halifax recently).
So I don't see here Baie-Comeau scoring more than 3 goals. Realistically 2-3 goals is what they can achieve here. As for Rimouski they should get 6-7 goals here, so as You see, if everything will go by plan this should be a really no problem game for Rimouski and with such big odds it has to be taken. This season both teams met 5 times. Rimouski won 7-2 and had 4-4 draw in home and won 7-5, 5-3 and lost 2-4 in away games. So as You see scoring goals vs. this opponent is not a problem for them. And they've never were in such good form as recently.
Good Luck to ALL. :D
Waiting for next competition now. And I wish that more people would enter the lists here, would get as much info as possible to invest money in most rationally way. And please, don't give up after first week of competition. It's not as You start, it's as You end it, and these people who don't end it at all are biggest LOSERS.
Peace.
Damn.. my connection was gone in the evening again and I was about to go to bed now, but it's shockingly back and I can do my duty and post the pick of the day.
Firstly I'll say it's not the best pick I can advice today, the best ones (on NBA as always) have started when I was "offline", but still it's a good pick. Secondly, I'm not so sober  so forgive any typos or weird words that I write.
Bet: NBA. Seattle (+4) - Sacramento (-4).
Pick: A
Odds: 1.90
Bookie: WillHill
Sacramento is one of the best teams in NBA, Seattle's record is average. While Sacramento has a superb record at home and average away, they usually have problems with only a) good rebounding teams b) teams with good bench players. Seattle is none. They seem to struggle when their reserve players are on the court, even if it's not for long, and they are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league.
I expect Allen to score a lot, 30+ points probably, Lewis should add at least 20.. but the rest of the players won't add any near as much, and Sacramento will score 100+ I'm pretty sure.
I hate betting against Seattle which I think is a great team, but Kings are just too strong.
At the tail end of this thread (unless someone is picking more of that Aussie tennis final), a couple of brief comments are in order :
On a busy Saturday such as yesterday, which was indeed the last competition day for January, only about a dozen and a half friends have bothered to take PODs... Most of them (11, if I'm not mistaken) were on 14 picks already, so they were motivated to finish the competition. What ever happened to the rest of that long list we see in the standings :?: :?: :?:
A further observation : there were 15 guys altogether who stood at 14 picks taken before Saturday. Of them, like I said, 11 felt the urge to finish, but Luckyjammygit, Palini, Beezeri and dickcat inexplicably elected it was not worth it... This is not a criticism of any sort, we live in a free world after all, but isn't it just a shame to spoil everything for just one day's indifference ???
On substance, I made an alarming statistic after checking Saturday's picks : despite the supreme motivation of most of the contestants, only two of the football picks (Mistro's and PRAG's) were correct !!! A few more will undoubtedly be added to this from other sports, but isn't this kinda bad on such an important day ??? Considering there were almost no "wild guesses" among the football picks (HT/FT, First Scorers, No of Corners, 4+ goals, etc.), one must either conclude that a lot of normal picks failed badly because it was simply a bad day for betors, OR that a lot of competitors were "trying too hard" for a good 15th pick and a place in the standings ! Do you see any other option(s) ???
....I hate to admit this, but in the end it looks like Koffee's list (in the long run, after a further few months or a year, of course) will probably be the only reliable list pertinent to these competitions !!! It does have weaknesses, for example it arbitrarily chooses the top-20 of each month (it could've been 10, or 30, or 130 for that matter), but it is the only long-term statistic that will show all the strengths and weaknesses of us mortals that I hinted at earlier : consistency, vanity, bravado, defeatism, perseverance, intuition, opportunism, self-respect, along with (it goes without saying) the essential knowledge and analytical power required of all of us here !!!
Best wishes to all betting friends for a profitable February 8) 8) 8)
First thing, which will improve the comp is to have a league, where last 10 competitiors on the table drop out and cant compete next month. So they will all fight till the end (the score for relegation will count even if competitor does not make 15 picks!).
Second rule should perhaps be to make 15 picks, but only 9 would count (3 best and 3 worst would not count, this would be a "correction factor" like in ski jumping, where the best and the worst referee points dont count for competitors score). This would exclude extreme results!
Of course, if the comp stays like it is, it wont be wrong either, but then you would need to give more importance for the overall winners n 12 months!
Still, I think, people enojy comp!

you want to kick me out of this do you
Tell me which is 3 worst for miho this month ?
or when i make average 4-6 right ones of 15 you want to take away all my winning tips ?
naughty,naughty Macot.
but in real life 15 pick does not mean 15days and maybe 1 day you have 3-4 "best" pick of your monthly 15...

Way to go, PRAG..
It is difficult to 'force' people to be constant and let them forget about the all-or-nothing attempts. In the end, they should drop on the Champions Race list. Making leagues is another option, but it's a lot of work and people will feel obliged to keep sending in, which could decrease the level. They'd better not send in a pick, than send in a bad pick. About the thing macot said, I think that if you allow people to cancel a lost pick, that this will lead to more high-odded picks instead of less. You can't ask your bookie to skip one lost ticket, so why here? Sometimes people forget what this competition is for. Repetition: from the bets you make on a day, you must have a good feeling about one of them. Tell us why. Don't go looking for a bet because you want to take part in the competition. etc.
