Good morning early wakers !!!

My pick of the day for Thursday is from the men's biathlon individual 20km at Antholz, Italy :

Halvard Hanevold (NOR)...................... Podium Finish (1st, 2nd, or 3d)........................2.20 at Bet 365

Great odds here for in-form Hanevold, considering Expect has H2H odds of only 2.15 for him to beat his great countryman Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. I mean, with our bet you can win bigger without Hanevold necessarily placing better than O.E.B. !!! Of the several possibilities available to us today in biathlon, I elected this one on the basis of form. Hanevold was on the podium all 3 times at Ruhpolding (GER) last week, once with the Norwegian relay team and twice on his own, actually winning Saturday's sprint in the process... Motivation goes without saying, his shooting looks more solid than anyone's apart from Bjoerndalen's, as for stamina... well, I guess over 20 kms Halvard can fair better than the likes of Poiree or Berger.

For biathlon enthusiasts, other possibilities worth considering today include :
A "banker-ish" 1.66 (Bet 365) for Bjoerndalen H2H to beat Poiree, who looked in pretty bad shape last weekend...
A mouthwatering 2.00 (Expect) for Rico Gross H2H to beat Poiree for the same reason. If only Gross just shoots above average, he'll win this H2H in my opinion.
A 5% unbeatable money interest (literally) for those who have accounts at both Expect and Ladbrokes : Lars Berger - Frode Andresen (H2H), pick Berger (2.00) at Expect and Andresen (2.10) at Ladbrokes !!! Small stakes are meaningless, I suppose, but if you're in the high stakes business hurry up ....

Good luck to all 8)

PICK LOST (Terrible peformance by Hanavold under brilliant conditions in South Tyrol, 3 shots missed, an altogether "off-day" for most Norwegians too !!! Poiree spoiled my other picks as well by placing 2nd, so an alpine off-day for me too...)

OK.
All my 3 ht/ft bets in january were correct:
Bolton - Man Utd @ 2.25
Perugia - Roma @ 2.55
Montpellier - Sochaux @ 5.00

...so here is next one:

Barcelona vs Zaragoza (HT/FT) 1/1 @2.20 - sportingbet

I know it's hard to trust Barcelona this season, but these two teams played league match in Camp Nou just about 10 days and it was 3-0 (2-0 at ht).
Home side is in must-win (as always) situation, because it's not a succesful season for them. Primera title is gone, so Copa del Rey has some kind of value.
Zaragoza is mediocre nowadays. I suppose they are rather thinking about next very important league match against other against-relegation-fighters - Mallorca.

H2H at Camp Nou is promising too:
2004-01-11 Barcelona 3 0 Zaragoza
2002-01-06 Barcelona 2 0 Zaragoza
2001-04-14 Barcelona 4 4 Zaragoza
1999-08-22 Barcelona 2 0 Zaragoza

Barca is capable of scoring few goals in this match, and they should do it in first 45 minutes to secure my bet and make me happy

My pick for today is :
ROMA - MILAN correct score 1-0 @7.5 at bet365!

What can I say...Roma won the last game home with Sampdoria(so did Milan at Brescia) and Roma wants to win tonight because Milan won a few weeks ago here.

The score will be 1-0(in my opinion)!
I'm not in the 'competition' this month anyway!

Bye

PS good work HALFACAT!

European Handball Championship:

France - Poland +5,5 @1,83 (Gamebookers) 29-25 WON

This pick is based on absence of best players of France in the tournment. French coach staff decided that the stars will be prepared for the Olympics, now it's time to give a chance younger, but as they say, not less gifted players to find an experience. In these circumstances I see motivated Polish team to make an upset here (dont' have balls to back them without handi thou' :) Poland made some progress and have some experienced, solid players playing in good foreign-based leagues- they are not magicians of handball but I believe they won't get scary in fornt of France.
Polish coach before the macth:“We have a lot of players in European top leagues. The Polish team will be looking for a better ranking than 2002 in Sweden when it finished up in only Place 15."

Deportivo Alaves vs RC Celta de Vigo 1 * 2.65 * centerbet

Silly me, "narrow" home win :D ... WON
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp* Alaves 4 - 2 Celta
Ruben Navarro 21, 38, 50
Mocelin Magno 53
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp& Mauricio Pinilla 8, 48

On Thursday, second division outfit Alaves will be looking to continue their Cinderella run through the Copa del Rey as they host Celta Vigo.

bullocks

Alaves now at 4th place in Div.2 only 3 points behind the first, and 1 point short to reach 3rd promotion place.

CELTA VIGO in Div.1 at 17th place just 1 point higher than 18th relegation placed.

hmm.

I think this time Alaves coud squeeze a narrow win. Sort of similar story back with R. SOCIEDAD game previously in this cup.
just metion of them next game will be 25 / JAN / 2004 CELTA VIGO R. SOCIEDAD where a home win would mean 24p each and catch up the midtable.
first things first
Though as far my bets go they will put up a draw

This year:

3 / JAN / 2004
22:30 Fin D1 CELTA VIGO - LA CORUNA 0-2 / 0-5
10 / JAN / 2004
20:30 Fin D1 MALLORCA - CELTA VIGO 2-1/ 2-4
17 / JAN / 2004

11 / JAN / 2004
13:00 Fin D2 ALAVES - NUMANCIA 1-1/ 1-1

Changed my pick, cause I found sth brilliant in Biathon:

Lars Berger to beat Frode Andresen @2.00! Centrebet
Lars Berger was exzellent shooting in the last races, Frode bas as usual. I think Berger, who is a bit faster than Frode, can beat his countrymen easily today!

WON!

22.01.2004, 21:30 CET Copa del Ray, Spain
LOST FT 0:1
Barcelona - Zaragoza

My pick - DRAW at @ 3.75 Premierbet

First, it's cup game, so back favorites such as Barcelona at 1.5 in my opinion is waisting money.
Why?

Surelly, they may trash Zaragoza again like a weak before (FT 3:0).
Zaragoza eleminated Real Betis, won against Osasuna with single goal.
Barca is not such realable team to back them with @ 1.50, or even with huge handicaps.

There are some picks about easy Barca win, so I think there is no need to post stats, etc.

I expect Draw, high scoring DRAW (FT 2:2 seems good to me  )

And I play nice combo (small stakes, just for fun : Roma - Milano FT 1:1 and Barcelona - Zaragoza FT 2:2 at @ 104 8) )

Cheers and GL!

KARPAT - ASSAT

Karpat is back on the tracks ! The defeat against ASSAT at home in december was an accident.
Oulu fight for the mestis title, and for me it is the best pick for today.
Certainly OVER too.

My pick is:

Handball EURO 2004

Denmark-Portugal-4,5 1 1,90 Gamebookers

I think this is very nice pick. Denmark is much better than Portugal and there is huge difference between those two teams. Portugal isn`t good enough to beat anybody (at least not in a group with Croatia, Spain and Denmark), so they will finish without any point. I am sure in Denmark win.

my pick of the day:
Asian Handicap form spanish cup:
Alaves(0) - Celta de Vigo(0) 2, (1.85 @ Ladbrokes)

Alaves play in Segunda and fight for promotion, and although they say that promotion is their top priority this season and that they doesn't seem to care much for the cup, they have beaten out teams like Valladolid and Real Sociedad, despite the fact that they have fielded many non-regular players.

Celta Vigo play in Primera Liga, but they seem to struggle this season currently at 17th place, far away from the 4th place last season, but I still believe they will improve. In the cup they have beaten out teams like Malaga and Espanyol.

Probable starting line-ups (Marca):
Alavés: Juan Pablo; Pablo Coira, Ochoa o Sarriegi, Téllez, Galván o Angel Sánchez; Turiel, Pablo Gómez; Edu Alonso, Astudillo, Magno o De Lucas; y Rubén Navarro.
Celta: Cavallero, Méndez, Cáceres, Sergio, Sylvinho, Luccin, Giovanella, Angel, Vagner, Israel y Pinilla o Milosevic

I was thinking of taking the straight away win, but Celta Vigo plays many draws on the road, and Alaves have played some draws in the cup against Primera teams, so I decided to take away win with the asian handicap 0:0.

Ulker - Olimpija 1 @ 1.45 @ Bet365 WON 68-63

Here , i agree with The Gravedigger , about his analys of that game. I was thinking to take handy at first , but he already took it , so , i will take just simple home win. Ulker on the 7th place right now , and if they will lose this game , i think , that they will not have chances to be in 2nd round of Euroliga. Olimpija not so bad team of course , but after that Ulker have almost all their main players in squard , they are just better team at this moment. Ulker will be high motivated on this game , beacouse it's one of the main games for them now. I hope , that Ulker will twin this game today.

Germany(-1.5) - Serbia&Montenegro @1.83 Gamebookers Lost

10-20 years ago, it would be -5 on S&M team, but now we can see clear example how sport in one country can be destroyed by the politicians and incompetent national federation.
Germany is the one of favourites for championship title, also big favourite in this match, and to win by two goals or more @1.83, is for sure a good bet. Last year in WC in Portugal S&M managed to made draw with Germany, but that team was better then this one. This time they (we) are without: First goalkeper, Sterbik, the best player (in offence and defence) Skrbic, best shooter from distance Perunicic, and very important Jovanovic. This team today have only 3-4 quality+experience players, and it's not enough for strong Germans. They have Zerbe and Baur back, and I rate their comeback more important then missing of Kretzhmar. If they stop Nikolic (best S&M player in preparation period), I think the half job is done.

Good Luck!

:x :x I wrote a long text about my pick, but then Internet Explorer made some errors and I had to close it...stupid windows!

So, let's do it again...

Today I had to chose between 3 picks:
Partizan - Roma (+7.5) - 2 @ 1.85 (Gamebookers)
Panathinaikos - Maccabi - 1 @ 1.72 (WilliamHill)

and the next one, which I decided to take for this competition:

Handball - Euro2004:
Slovenia - Iceland - 2 @ 2.4 (Unibet) 34:28 - bet lost (but who cares  )

I see nice value in this pick as this is a very tough match between the best two teams (Yes, I don't rate Hungary as high as these two...) in group C. Almost all bookies offer pretty much the same odds for both teams and I don't know why Unibet is making Slovenia such a favourite in this match!?
This is the first match for both teams and we can't know what their current form looks like. So this is one more reason to see value in this odd. I am sure that if the match would be played on neutral ground, the odds for Iceland wouldn't be higher than 1.7. Is the home ground really such a big advantage for Slovenia? I hope it is but I am not so sure about it. I'll wait to see this match and then I 'll have an opinion about that. Slovenia already failed a couple of times when they should win with home fans support and I don't know if this is always an advantage for our team. It looks to me that if the presure is too big, then nothing good will happen. But I hope I am wrong this time...
Iceland is one of the best European handball teams. They are already qualified to Olympics in Athens, so they showed already that they can beat anyone. I think this will be a very close match, which will be decided in last 10 minutes. If Slovenia won't be leading at that time then everyone in the hall will become nervous and that will be the chance for Iceland to win.
Anyway, I like this pick even more, because if I lose it then we'll have some party time tonight here in Slovenia. If Slovenia doesn't lose this match then they are ready to achieve something on this tournament and that would be the best possible thing to happen to my country...
Once again - I decided to take this pick, because it has value in odd like 2.4! The odds should be 1.9-2.0 for both teams and not more.

My pick is Cibona to win Aek moneyline @2.25 BetAndwin
Cibona in top form lately, has the quality to win here. Won Barcelona and had been very difficult opponent to be beaten even in the matches that lost them. Aek is unstable and the only advantage here is playing at home. But still big chances for Cibona as has more quality.

The great start was followed by some bad picks and out of luck. Hope I'll manage better till the end and move up in the table.
Trying this one for tonight:

Pick 8
AS Roma vs AC Milan
Coppa Italia

Despite this is a 1/4-final, for both teams this cup is not priority. They have Calcio and European tournaments.
Roma and Milan will rest some of the key players tonight.
Roma will rest Dacourt, Emerson, Totti. Montella is injured, Cassano is suspended. The big problem for Roma - Zotti and Pellizzoli are out - so youngster will be goalkeeper.
Milan will rest Pirlo, Kaka, Maldini. Inzaghi is injured. Shevchenko will be there if something goes wrong and Milan need to score.
Last time on Olimpico Milan brought me some money and also was my POD. Milan has positive balance here and I can't see any good reason not to keep the tradition tonight.
Milan is really great team. With this problems Roma can't beat them, be sure.
This season the teams met 2 times and 2 wins for Milan with score 2-1. This can happen for the 3rd time, but Milan doesn't need it. Thew will play tonight for what they really need - a draw. Milan knows how to play for what they need.
So this is my choice - the draw. But I will go for bigger price and take ht/ft x/x. Hope my greed will not kill me. If i have to choose a score, I see 1:1.

Pick: AS Roma vs AC Milan, ht/ft x/x @ 4.25 (Gamebookers)
Result: 1:2, ht/ft x/2
Lost
Wow, the same happened again - Milan won 2-1.

Deportivo Alavés vs Celta 0-1 goals in the game - Ladbrokes (11/5 or 3.2)

This is my pick of the day and first in the whole competition.
Alaves fight for promotion and Celta Vigo's at 17th place in Primera Liga and the fact there is second leg are my reasons to pick this one.i do not think both teams will sacrifice their weekend matches and do their best to win this one.the lack of important players will lead to lower quality and to score goals every team needs quality while destroying the game is much easy.i see a 0:0 draw, but at the other hand everyone of us has seen a lot of goals from impossible situations.so ...
good luck to all.especially to me

Pick #9, Women's Tennis

Mandula - Kapros 2 @1.95 @Gamebookers 6-3 3-6 10-12 WON

About 2 dozen break of service in this game

Not much to say about this one, in form Kapros who took out Petrova now faces her floater compatriot. Mandula's form is quite patchy and unimpressive, and she shouldn't pose much of the hindrance for Kapros. Most bookie have Kapros as a fav, except Gamebookers. Hurry.

PIT Penguins v OTW Senators over 5.5 1.80 @gamebookers

Awful 1.13 on Ottawa tonight, but odds on over are pretty nice, though...
All day I was feeling 5-2 in this game, and just saw that danielcs predicted the same result in the forum discusion...Incredible...
Anyway, after two draws against Penguins, Ottawa should really crash them and show them their place, anything less then two goal margin would be huge surprise for me, Ottawa is getting more and more reliable past weeks.

after a huge bad luck last night:( 2-2 with 12 seconds to go when Minesotta scored and ruined my pick) i will go again for NHL
PHI Flyers v NY Rangers Over 5.0 Goals 2.05 Gamebookers.
2 teams who loves to score a lot of goals; further more the host are having a lot of problems with their defensman and that could allow to the visitors to score goals; Philadelphia have a lot of fire weapon in thier offensive players; on the other hand the Rangers have 3 of their starting defesman out for this game
I will expect a open game with a lot of shots and maybe at least 6 goals
Good luck

NCAAB UCLA+14 over Stanford 1.962 @ Pinnacle

Maples Pavillion at Stanford is a tough place to play, since Stanford has become consistently good program over the last few years, their student body really injects themselves into the action and get on the referees when there's a perceived bad call. Despite this, Stanford hasn't been totally dominant and sometimes have troubles at home against athletic teams, of which UCLA has an advantage. I think that it is partially due to the floor of the gym, which is bouncy and like an old dancefloor, which'll give players who jump more of a "lift." UCLA has played well there recently, and has won three of the past four, with the only loss being a 1 point loss last year. Stanford is marginally better this year, as they have back their solid point guard Hernandez. But UCLA is playing much better defense this year under new coach Howland.

UCLA is coming off a bad home loss to a motivated Arizona team, and their first conference loss, which probably woke them up to the fact that if they're going to do well in conference play, they're going to have to heed their new coach's philosophy. Stanford is one of two teams in the nation that are undefeated, and the media is repeating this over and over, and the fact that they were suprisingly passed over for the #1 poll position. Maybe the linemakers are setting up those of us who are looking for a good pointspread value, but I think UCLA will be able to keep up with Stanford.
