FC Basel 1893 will face French opposition in the UEFA Cup for the eighth time in the last three seasons as AS Nancy-Lorraine visit Switzerland in Group E.
• Basel have earned one point from their opening two games, drawing 1-1 at home against Feyenoord on Matchday 1 and losing 3-0 at Blackburn Rovers FC on Matchday 2.
• Nancy did not play on Matchday 1 but earned a 2-1 win against Wis***322;a Kraków on Matchday 2 with goals from Kim and Pascal Berenguer.
• The two sides have never met in European competition.
• Basel's Australian international Mile Sterjovski knows a bit about French football having spent three and a half seasons in Ligue 1 with LOSC Lille Métropole prior to joining Basel in the summer of 2004.
• Basel's Brazilian striker Eduardo also played in France, scoring eight times in two seasons at Toulouse FC before joining Basel in the summer of 2005.
• Basel know all about French opposition having met Ligue 1 sides on seven occasions in the last three seasons, all in the UEFA Cup. Their 2004/05 UEFA Cup knockout phase meeting with Lille was their first meeting with French opposition – they drew 0-0 in the home leg and then lost 2-0 in France.
• Basel played five games against French sides in last season's UEFA Cup. They played RC Strasbourg in Group E, knocked AS Monaco FC out in a two-legged Round of 32 tie then beat Strasbourg again over a two-legged Round of 16 tie.
• Ironically, a late equaliser for Strasbourg in a 2-2 draw against FK Crvena Zvezda helped Basel to qualify at the Belgrade side's expense. However, the Swiss side showed no gratitude, knocking their French opponents out of the competition.
• In total, they have won twice, drawn three times and lost twice against French sides.
• In Switzerland, they have won twice, drawn once and lost once.
• Nancy met Swiss opponents in the form of Servette FC in their only previous European campaign in the 1978/79 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
• They lost 2-1 in the away leg of their second round tie and were then held to a 2-2 draw at home to bow out of the competition.
• Sides from Switzerland and France have met 45 times in the European Champion Clubs' Cup, UEFA Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Super Cup over the years.
• Notable meetings include Stade de Reims Champagne's 3-1 aggregate win against BSC Young Boys in the semi-final of the 1958/59 European Champion Clubs' Cup and SC Bastia's away goals win against Grasshopper-Club in the 1977/78 UEFA Cup semi-finals.
• In total, there have been 12 wins for Swiss sides, 13 draws and 20 wins for French sides.
• In Switzerland, the home sides have won ten games, with five draws and seven wins for the French sides.
• Feyenoord play Blackburn in Matchday 3's other Group E game.
Fc Basel played a good game on weekend against Sion and won that game easily. They are actually in good form but I know that opposition Nancy is a strong team with good form too. This will be a tough game. FC Basel urgently needs at least one point this week. I predict a Draw here.
Wisla Krakow was played with Nancy in UEFA, I was watched this match and this is very strong and speed offensive team, for me safe option is X2

Mistrust is thus of setting for the players of Pablo Correa and Pascal Berenguer: "I know them via their European past, because they have the practice of the great appointments. There is talent in this team". There is especially old knowledge. The international Australian one, Mile Sterjovski knows French football since it evolved/moved in League 1 during three seasons and half, under the colors of Lille. The Brazilian striker Eduardo has him also played in the hexagon and registered eight goals in two seasons in the rows of Toulouse.
Side of the ASNL, Correa records the return of Brison. Zerka will be him also voyage within a deeply altered formation, as with the accustomed one. If they know a small fall of mode since about fifteen days - "we are a little in the trough of vagueness, manpower is tended a little" confirms president Jacques Rousselot - the Lorraine ones do not have a complex to make. With the time better defense and fifteenth attack of L1, they do not cultivate obviously this paradox out of Cut of Europe. On the impetus of their exploit successful against the Germans of Schalke 04 with the first tower of Cut UEFA (reverse 1-0 in Gelsenkirchen with the outward journey, victory 3-1 in Nancy with the return), the Lorraine ones have all the arguments to continue much more than one beautiful adventure.

Lol, as I see there will be not Bracigliano on the goal for Nancy! That's a very big blow, imo he is great keeper and the one who fix the mistakes of Nancy's defense. Now without him the strong attack for Basel will almost sure score at least one.
Basel can win this match but are there any injuries or suspensions? Basel after lost game in England may took all points against Nancy! :D
Hey !
Does anyone have a link with how forward Petric defends that penalty kick in the 90th minute ????
Thanks !
