Anfield showdown for top spot
First place in Group C is up for grabs when Liverpool FC welcome PSV Eindhoven to Anfield on Matchday 5. With both teams already qualified for the first knockout round, the target now is to finish top of the section – and victory for either on Merseyside would guarantee this.
• Both teams have ten points each with Liverpool ahead on goal difference. Group C's bottom two, Galatasaray SK and FC Girondins de Bordeaux, meet in the other game with a UEFA Cup place at stake.
• Liverpool secured their place in the last 16 by beating Bordeaux on 31 October. Luis García gave the Reds a 23rd-minute lead and after Steven Gerrard had doubled the advantage on 72 minutes, García struck a third four minutes later.
• PSV were 2-0 winners at home to Galatasaray on the same night. Timmy Simons headed the Dutch champions in front after 59 minutes and Arouna Koné added a second six minutes from time.
State of play
• The two teams played out a goalless draw when they met in Eindhoven on Matchday 1, meaning that three points for either at Anfield would secure them first place in the section on the head-to-head rule. In the event of a scoring draw, PSV would move above Liverpool. Another goalless draw between the pair would keep Liverpool top thanks to their superior goal difference.
• Rafael Benítez's team have won their three subsequent matches since drawing at PSV. After overcoming Galatasaray 3-2 at Anfield, they won 1-0 at Bordeaux before beating the French side a second time.
• PSV also made it three wins in a row with their Matchday 4 success against Galatasaray. They had previously taken maximum points from away trips to both Bordeaux (1-0) and Galatasaray (2-1).
Reds' record
• Liverpool suffered a heavy defeat on their first ever meeting with Dutch opposition, going down 5-1 at AFC Ajax in the 1966/67 European Champion Clubs' Cup second round. That remains their only defeat against a Dutch team, however, with their subsequent six matches producing three wins and three draws.
• The most recent Dutch visitors to Anfield were SBV Vitesse in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup third round in December 2002. Michael Owen scored the only goal as Liverpool advanced 2-0 on aggregate.
• PSV have won none of their last seven meetings with English teams. Their last victory came in February 2002 against Leeds United AFC in the UEFA Cup fourth round. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink netted the only goal after 89 minutes.
• That was one of three PSV successes on English soil. On eleven visits, they have also recorded one draw and seven losses.
Koeman returns
• PSV coach Ronald Koeman tasted victory at Anfield last season when his former club, SL Benfica, won 2-0 to secure a 3-0 aggregate triumph in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round.
• Jan Kromkamp spent the first half of last season at Anfield before moving on to Eindhoven via a loan spell at Villarreal CF. Liverpool's Boudewijn Zenden was part of the PSV team that won the Dutch title in 1996/97, while PSV defender Michael Ball is a native Liverpudlian who began his career at Everton FC.

Liverpool FC - PSV Eindohoven
Pick: Liverpool
Odds: 1.85 @ Betfair
A pretty good price is offered for LFC on betfair at the moment, you can get them for 1.85 and I suggested you to take it before it drops. Most bookies are giving around 1.65, and none of them opened above 1.70 as I can see. However, now 1.75 is available at both Nordicbet and Gamebookers. That is a realistic target for the Betfair market come matchday as well.
A lot of people have been talking about how awfully LFC play at the moment, however, you must not forget their amazing run at home on Anfield, they are undefeated there for over a year in the league. Also LFC have been doing really well in Europe, won CL 04/05, won thier group in CL 05/06 (ahead of among others Chelsea) and are undefeated so far in this seasons CL. They will also be fully motivated to grab 3 points here since that would ensure them of winning the group while any other result would most likely give PSV the group win, and thus probably and easier opponent in the first round of the knock-out rounds.
I suggest to grab Liverpool while the price is still so high, good luck! :)

LFC poor form? This has been blown way out of proportion, especially at home they are on fire. Added to this they have lost away to Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea (not like many teams avoid losses like these...) Anyway this fixture is being played at home on Anfield where they are on fire! ;)
1. Manchester Utd 13 11 1 1 34 29 - 6
2. Chelsea 13 10 1 2 31 23 - 7
4. Arsenal 12 6 4 2 22 20 - 7
10. Liverpool 13 5 3 5 18 14 - 15
If that is not bad form I be damned.

If LFC were playing in the Dutch league I am sure they would be kicking butts all over the place, and lets not forget they haven't lost at Anfield for one year in the league. Why take the away form in account when they play at home? :o
Liverpool play very poor away from home, but they are still good at home. I don`t expect here taht PSV can win, but IMO, this is 50%-40%-10%. PSV will win Eredevisie again, Liverpool won`t win EPL again...

I give up, if you think being 16 points behind leader after 13 rounds is good form, let it be. Anyway, point is that odds opened in range 1.50 - 1.60 which makes no sense against top 20 European club like PSV is, +0.75 on PSV would have value even if this game was played for something, now that it is practically meaningless and anything can happen that's ridicolous. That was overestimating of good Liverpool home form and market recognised it well.

Liverpool is one of the highly unpredictable teams I have ever seen in my life. While PSV always remained to be very Solid in terms of defense and offense. Considering this, I can't pick a winner here...Better to leave this match or try something like UNDER 3.5......

Hmm this is a bit biased mate, sorry to oppose your thoughts but Liverpool were so poor against Galatasaray after 3-0 and they were close to ending the game in a draw after 3-2. Something is certainly wrong with the team, they can not alter things even after 3-0 in a Champions League game against a weak Turkish team. Moreover, they lost against Benfica in Anfield Road in CL last year yet it is true that they are not losing at home since october 2nd 2005 when Chelsea won 4-1 there. Keep in mind that Liverpool even lost against CSKA Sofia in Anfield Road last year after things were settled in the group and they hardly eliminated Maccabi Haifa this year. ;)
Somehow I personally dont like Liverpool anymore and I treat every win as matter of luck  , sorry to Liverpool fans. I've been in Anfield two years ago when they played against Everton and after that I liked this club (althou they did not impress me with their play). But then I realised that they are just very lucky comparing to clubs who are really doing hard job to get 3 pts.
Anyway now Im searching for some facts to bet comfortably against Liverpool, this could be :
The Reds have never managed to win all three home games in a Champions League Group
PSV is a class higher team than Galatasaray or Bordeux and they score more goals than Liverpool in average.
IMO odds 5.00+ for PSV is megavalue, but on the safe side I like PSV+0.5 or 0.75 which are must bets for me.
All in all I just wanted to say that Liverpool is being overestimated.
Sorry for such subjective opinion, but I just wanted to shoot it out
;)
both team have good defense and both team not need point anymore, just group champ , so for me it's 65% draw match and under.
i will take under for medium stake and psv +3/4 ;)

Yes, I think put some money on draw. Two uninterested teams, which will be smart enough to keep strength. That's worth 3/10. ;)
