31.10.06 NBA: Chicago Bulls - Miami Heat, Pick Bulls (+7.5) 1.74 Pinnacle Sports
It’s time to start another season in the NBA. Bulls visit the Heat in what is a nice playoff rematch from last year playoffs. I could write about recent trends, preseason record, season averages etc. but i won’t do it. All in all Heat are the team with rings, more offensive power in Shaq and Wade combination, have more proven team. If that would be a title game i would take Miami with really high stakes, but it’s not, and i like my chance with Bulls. Miami will without any doubt miss Jason Williams who is sidelined with injury, while Udonis Haslem is a big doubt (but i'm almost sure he will play in that one). Bulls will have their new acquisition Big Ben ready to compete with Shaq and no major doubts. As it is a first game of the season and Heat will be still in a title mood, Walker without shape, Shaq overweight, Wade relaxed, against young, strong very athletic Bulls trying to prove themselves i just can’t see there is a big chance Heat can win this one by a large margin. The Heat been there a year ago, didn’t get younger in the off-season, missing Jay-Will, receiving the rings just before the game, they know this game is a start of the long journey and still 81 games will be left plus long playoffs - they should take it easily. A new season of NBA getting underway tonight. Hopefully it'll be a profitable one. Good luck everyone.
I'll start with one bet today.
Chicago Bulls @ Miami Heat
Under 191.5 @ 1.917 (Pinnacle) 5 units
Adding Ben Wallace in the off-season has made Bulls already solid defense among the best in the league. Bulls also made other good moves, most notably acquiring rookie Tyrus Thomas from Louisiana State. They look like top-4 material in the East for sure this year, at least on the paper. Ben Wallace is likely to make their defense better, but he will be playing big minutes and in the offensive end he adds very little aside from the rebounds as his shooting is really not good. Bulls have solid role players and shooters like Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng, Andres nocioni etc. Good bunch of guys and potential for a very good season. However, the foundation of their game will be good defense and the total point averages in Bulls games should clearly be below league average this season.
Not much to say about the Heat, Champs from last season. They've got a deep bench and Wade and Shaq makes a very dangerous duo. They will be the team to beat in the East. However, I'm not sure how good form they are yet in the beginning of the season. The preseason didn't go that well for them and it might take few games for them to get into groove. Jason Williams will be out for this game, which is not a huge loss for them, but might have an effect.
Both teams played underish games in the preseason and these teams met in the first round of the playoffs last season, Bulls losing 2-4. Bulls have improved this time around and will surely play hard and have something to prove. Ofcourse the Heat is more probable winner here, but the Bulls are likely to keep this one close and defend well enough to not be crushed and keep the total relatively low. Imo the under is clearly more probable outcome in this match and i'll try it with medium stakes.
Useful info about LAL - SUNS Match :
"Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant practiced on Saturday and intends to play against the Suns despite reports that he was “doubtful” due to his extended recovery from knee surgery. "He says he's going to play on Tuesday," LA head coach Phil Jackson said. "There's a disclaimer that he's doubtful. I'm sure that he'll make the correct decision. He came off the floor and he was sore, but he was on the court for a good hour and a half before he came off." While Bryant may play, Jackson didn’t show much confidence, as he also noted that it’s possible he won’t make the trip to Oakland on Wednesday for the team’s second game.
Numerous experts are picking the Suns to win the NBA title this year, but the condition of All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire will be the key to their season. Phoenix head coach Mike D’Antoni is taking a cautious approach with Stoudemire, who will start the season coming off the bench. It may take some time before he returns to his dominant self, but his teammates are focused more on the long-term result than immediate success. "I think we all understand he's a huge story," Suns guard Raja Bell said. "He's a huge part of what we're going to wind up being when it's all said and done."
The Suns simply wore down the Lakers in their first-round playoff series back in May and still have a much deeper team despite the departure of Tim Thomas to the Clippers in the offseason. LA added former Clipper Vladimir Radmanovic through free agency, but he alone won’t solve the team’s depth issues. Meanwhile, the Suns added point guard Marcus Banks, which will allow Steve Nash and Leandro Barbosa to play shooting guard. "

Bulls to win @Heat @3.25 in Pinnacle 7/10
New season, new hopes and big value bet for opening night already. As I wrote in my season preview (http://forum.bettingadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=55418), Heat got older. And that's important. What is more important is fact that this game is just start of the season. Shaq still has some holiday weight and is not fully fit. Who will lead team when White Chocolate Jason Williams is injured? Payton? He is 38, he can't play a lot, Hinrich will run him to death. Wade? Yes. Dwayne can. Heat know themselves, but preseason wasn't easy for them (2-5 record) and Riley mentioned that on a press conference yesterday "I never really played a rotation for more than probably three or four quarters. So I don't know where we are. I really don't."
Latest news state that F Udonis Haslem (abdominal pain) will start and G Dorell Wright (ankle) is expected to be healthy and available. G Jason Williams (knee) and C Michael Doleac (ankle) are not expected to play.
Bulls start in defensive manner with former Heat, PJ Brown, as PF in Nocioni's place. He will play alongside Gordon, Deng, Hinrich and BigBen. There are no injuries in Chicago and their long bench with likes of Duhon, Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas or Sefolosha. Bulls will kill Heat with bench and athleticism. 6-1 preseason was no accident, Skiles is best young coach out there and 'baby bulls' will lose baby nickname this season.
Both under and away win are good choices. I go for latter due to extreme value. 60-40 game for me when Bulls will be led by 'beat the champ' motto. Medium/high stakes.
Hi all here
So, NBA gets its action from today now on.. :D
And a gift from the bookies to the start, that´s nice.Thank you
I see a great value here on hicago to win this one.The Heat will face young and very hungry team right after their ring ceremony at the start of the game...This is an ideal opportunity for Bulls to show the world that they are serious about thinking of one of the high spots in East.(for me I see them with Big Ben among the best four in east imo...)
They had good defence last year and now with him it would be even better...
In preseason the results were great for chicago...
Fidu wrote about injuries etc...
I totally agree and will go for away win ML at my local for 3,41!!! 8O
CHI ML 3,41 8/10
From now on I will post here my picks and stats almost every day...
so GL to all

please someone post here as soon as you can if kobe will play or not. thanks
In this moment, Kobe is listed as probable.
I guess every analysis on Lakers - Suns depends on that. Without Bryant, LA will find it difficult to cope with Suns. Plus the hosts are already missing Mihm and Kwame Brown, while Radmanovici is also questionable. I`m thinking that, even if he plays, Kobe will look a little rusty, considering he didnt played in preseason. Lakers are playing home 15 from the first 20 games of the season, so no reason for them to panic if losing this one. Still, is the first game of the season so you never know what to expect. I`m leaning though to Phoenix -4,5 but still thinking if takin this one.
Good luck to all of you guys in the new season, I`m so glad it finnaly starts! ;)
:P
even with kobe playing, i don't believe lakers have what it takes to beat phoenix tonight.
my pick: suns -3.5
shaq and ben wallace playing? gotta love the under on miami - chicago!
my pick: under 191.5
remeber mates, this is season start !
maybe Bulls +7 or Miami 100 under...but just MAYBE.

Judging from how many times he used the word "really" to describe how good his knee felt, Kobe Bryant will be in the starting lineup and wearing his new No. 24 jersey when the Lakers open the season tonight against Phoenix.
Bryant passed his biggest test Monday at practice when he was running the middle on a fastbreak drill and decided to challenge guard Shammond Williams, who was trying to take a charge on defense.
"I felt like I could explode, so I took off," Bryant said. "I didn't know what I was doing. The ball slipped out of my hands, but I landed and I felt fine. It was like, `OK.' If it feels good (today), I'll be ready to go."
Bryant underwent right knee surgery 108 days ago, but his recovery has been slow. He did not play in any of the Lakers' eight preseason games and only recently started practicing at full speed with his teammates.
"I felt really, really good (Monday)," Bryant said. "Really, really good."
After reading this, I beleive Kobe will play tonight.

NBA:
Chicago Bulls +7, laying $220 to win $200
Phoenix Suns -4, laying $220 to win $200
Reasoning:
2) coat-tail play of a buddy which I bet 3 days ago. Miami was not a very good Home cover team at all last year and the Bulls should be hungry enough to exact some revenge for being eliminated by Miami in last years' playoffs.
3) another coat-tail play (bet 2 days ago) that I agree very strongly with though as I think the Suns can maul this team tonight. Is Kobe really ready for this game after missing the preseason? Who is going to stop Amare with Mihm and Kwame out? Right. Nobody. Suns should win by double-digits.

I like the Suns to beat Lakers, but i don't know how the Lakers played in there pre-season and if they have become a better team from last season. The Suns have Stoudamire back who is in peak form. Nash, Bell and Diaw are all back and really on paper the Suns are the better team. No one likes to lose an opener and especially if your at home. If Kobe plays the Lakers are a better team, but a one man show. If Kobes hot, which he will be, being the opener in front of the home crowd. I really don't know if the Lakers are good enough to keep up with the Suns. Really liking the Suns here.

A note from Kobe
I'm excited about this season.
I can't wait to play.
The energy of opening night is always special.
We are beginning our journey. We will face many obstacles and challenges, but we will face them TOGETHER AS ONE.
The excitement of tonight was beginning to cloud my judgment of playing, I want to play, BUT I am not there yet. I am rounding 3rd base and will be home SOON.
Big thanks to all you, I love all the support. It helps fuel my drive.
WE WILL STAY IN TOUCH, THIS IS MY HOME.
AND MI CASA ES SU CASA.
Enjoy the site.

Now I'm just confused, will he play or not. According to the link he wont.
If he is not going to play, then I'll sure make a bet on Suns -4.5
Shawn Marion (F, Phoenix – back spasms)
Marion sat out most of the Suns' Sunday practice, and his availability for the season opener is in question at this point. He was to receive treatments on Monday and said, "I don't want to sit out. If I'm decent, I'll go." The original injury to his back occurred when he took a charge from the Lakers' Andrew Bynum on October 22. Marion will likely be a game-time decision.
Kobe Bryant (SG, LA Lakers – right knee surgery)
Kobe participated in a full scrimmage on Sunday, saying his knee felt "strong" and that it was the first day he could "elevate a little bit." Coach Phil Jackson said that Bryant was "not sharp" but praised his conditioning, according to The Orange County Register. It's becoming more likely that Bryant will play in the season opener on Tuesday, but at what percent he would be playing at is still unclear.
Amare Stoudemire (FC, Phoenix – left knee surgery)
Amare felt "sharp pain" in his knees as recently as Thursday, and it simply appears that he isn't going to be 100 percent any time soon, if at all this season. Stoudemire will sit when he experiences pain, according to coach Mike D'Antoni, but not when he's just tired or sore. Stoudemire has also become comfortable with the idea of being the team's sixth man, saying "I think it's actually going to help that I'm not playing 40 minutes a night.  " Kurt Thomas now appears to be locked into the Suns starting lineup going forward.
here are some injury information
Update on Marion
'Trix' or treat
Shawn Marion's back remained tight Monday, but he practiced fully, and his availability for tonight is not in doubt.
"I'm playing regardless; you know how I am," said Marion, who needs 12 points to become the Suns' fifth 10,000-point scorer.
There was no way he would miss the opener at Staples.
"I love that stuff," he said. "I just love rowdy fans.

Lakers star Kobe Bryant is expected to play tonight despite missing the entire preseason after recovering from knee surgery.

well i made some bets today ,i took the under in miami-chicago with medium stakes but split it .
most of it on first half under 96 points ,and a little under 48 at first quater .
i prefer this bet becuase at the end of games sometimes there is overtime and sometimes lots of fouls if its a close game .
another bet is chicago +6 ,smaller stakes
also a small combo chicago+6 and suns-4
and i will wait till late before i put money on suns single play .

Old article, yes I now it's from today, but it was probably written this morning. The one I had is from Kobe's own site.

totally agree. But the main point make me confuse is:
1. all public thinks backing Chicago - and total under.
2. again all public thinks backing Phoneix against with-injured-probable Kobe
odds changing as above. what does bookies think? it's clear Kobe's situation is not clear for many days. also it's clear Phoneix kicks Lakers ass easly as public backs. But why starting spread too low? to encourage public to bet on Phoneix?
i am not sure. just want to say be carefull and look at the situation against the public side. NBA season is just started dont fall into trap. cheers.

i also hate when all the public is on the same bet ,but i cant miss this offer on chicago ,besides i backed chicago mostly at ht ,i think even if miami covers the spread it will be only in the fourth quater .
about the suns i am stilling thinking if to take that pick.

If we keep watching the spread, we can kind of understand what is going on with Kobes injury. Obvisiouly the books will find out before any of us and the lines will move in Lakers favour getting + points. But how many points they will give the Lakers is still questionable.

Chicago has a good defence and with Ben, they will be more tough. No doubt, they would like to beat the last champ.
About Miami, Shaq is overweighted and Wade became a superstar; he may have "ronaldinho syndrome". Under this conditions Bulls +6.5 sounds really good but it's not a banker.
208 Line for Suns vs Lakers sounds cool because both Lakers and Suns like run'n gun game. My bet is..
Bulls - Heat Under 192
Suns - Lakers Over 208
Bet Cost : 100 Units
Return : 364 Units
GL!

well i will wait also on this ,becuase without kobe i think its under and with him i think its over .
yes they both like the run'n gun game but without kobe i see them not passing the 90-95 points and then u need phoenix at least 115 and maybe more ,very hard
Bulls - Heat Under 192

under 192  u need to check more frequent now 186.5 and begin slight move up
about Suns over: for me totally NO BET .

Nobody knows how Lakers play as Kobe didn't play any preseason games and Lakers are Kobe. OK, Lamar is there but others are just of bunch of schmucks. However it doesn't stand that Lakers with Kobe are better team than Phoenix. That's simply doesn't true, last season Suns won Pacific Division while Lakers struggled to reach play-off and when they reached it, they were knocked out by Phoenix which went all the way to West finals. And all of that without Amare, so Kobe / no Kobe / rusty Kobe, it doesn't matter, Phoenix is simply better team.
As for today's game Amare is ready for some 20 minutes of play and on other hand Lakers are without center, not that Mihm or Kwame are some key players but they're centers and they're surely better than Bynum, Bynum is a joke. So if I have to bet I would take Suns ML @1.50 but it's no bet for me. It's opening day and Lakers are good home team and nobody knows how fit is Kobe, he may score 50 points today, but might finish with 5 points as well.

Suns @ Lakers game has a lot of uncertainty factors. Both teams are a bit banged up with many players not 100% and some missings. Kobe's fitness is a huge question mark. That said, with the current odds i just took under 209 @ 1.971 and Lakers ml 2.79 small both with 2 unit stake. These teams played 2 games in the preseason against each other, both times total going comfortably under 200 points. Suns have wider bench and are the favorites, but 2.79 for Lakers at home in season opener is enough for me to play it small.

Kobe Bryant's surgically repaired knee is going to keep him out of Thursday's game against the Suns.
Kobe, Phil Jackson, Doug Collins and many other people said he was going to play tonight, but he awoke to soreness in the knee and will sit out. "This morning it was a little sore," said Bryant. "The thing about the knee is you want to string together a few days where it feels good." We're guessing the knee is more than a "little sore" since he's actually sitting this game out, and his owners will obviously be concerned upon hearing this news. The Lakers have three more games this week, on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, so there's still a chance Kobe could put up nice fantasy numbers the rest of the week. Oct. 31 - 10:15 pm et
( As you would guess that thursday is actually tuesday)
So with Kobe definitely out I would be going for a Phoenix win and under 206.5 here.
