Glad to see pokoloko is back again.

Tricky first round tomorrow in LNB. I'll have a look at the games and maybe come back tomorrow with some analyses and picks.

Have a profitable year everybody.

First estimate (always with HC) says; Pau, Besanson, Villerban, Gravellines and maybe Krermont. I'll be back with some explaining lines later on.

LNB First Round;

 Le Havre vs. Pau Ortez

Le Havre made a relatively good year last year. More or less i expect them to move within the same limits this year, as reccomended by the transfers they achieved. Clearly, the most important of them is the signing of Jonh Cox (cousin of Kobe Bryant!!) who had a great year in Chalon. Pau Ortez on the other side, despite blowing their year during the playoffs, they didnt change many things in their roster. I would say that top change is the coming of Canadian coach Herbert, who seems to try hard to give a different edge to Pau's game focusing on very tough defense and organised basketball on the other side of the court. Friedly fixtures have shown that he is capable of doing that and i certainly rate Pau as one of the favorites for this year LNB title. Le Havre will be slighly worse this year and tonights game is a perfect example to see whether Herbert's new philosophy will have luck in changing the future of Pau Ortez.

I cant see anything apart from a relatively easy win for Pau tonight. So i'll take Pau covering the HC (-4 at 1.90 at sportingbet) . Maybe under is an option too. Currently is given at 146,5 at the same bookie.

First of all i should say that this season 3 teams will be relegated from ProA to ProB while only 1 team will "go" from ProB to ProA so the next season (2007-08) we will have 16 teams in ProA.

Reims-Asvel
Reims has changed a lot of players this year.4 USA players left the team (Patterson,Silvers,Brown,Bradford) while only Rob Feaster (USA,1.99m,15ppg,5rpg last season/1st scorer of the team) stays to the team.Bad news for Reims is that Feaster isn't going to play tonight because as his club announced yesterday,Feaster has unprofessional behaviour :o Big loss for Reims i think.
Also first rebounder and 3rd scorer of the team last year,Frederic Adjiwanou(13ppg,6rpg) went to LeMans.Mohamed Sy and Kiaku Tomaku left the team while 3 new USA's came to the team:
Rob Lewin (2.01m)
Matt Schneiderman (2.05m)
Markuss Carr (1.86m/came to the team few days ago)

On the other head Asvel after the bad season last year has changed a lot of things this year.First of all Claude Bergeaud(coach of NT of France) left the team and new coach is Yves Baratet.
All the USA's from the last season (Gaines,Felton,Paulding) left the team and 3 new came:
Rowan Barrett (CAN,1.97m,/last year in Cantu/2004-05 Barrett was 1st scorer of LNB with Dijon 21.5ppg).
Chevy Troutman (USA,2.01m/last year in Livorno/15ppg,7rpg).
Brian Greene (USA,2.04m/last year in Pepinster/18ppg,7rpg).
New players for the team are the experienced Laurent Foirest (from Orthez) and Aymeric Jeanneau (from Strasbourg).Jeanneau isn't going to play tonight because of an injury.Sy,Sangare and Masingue have stayed to the team from the last season.

Reims saved the category the last year because Rouen and Brest (which went to ProB) were non-existent.I believe that Reims is a grand favorite to go to ProB this year.Asvel had bad results in friendly games (6 defeats in 10 games) but i believe that there isn't any comparison between these teams (especially after the absence of Feaster for Reims).

My pick:Asvel (-6) @1.9 at Sportingbet with 8/10.

Reims-Asvel 50-74 :D

Let's see some news from the other games:

Gravelines-Toulon

Gravelines is a new team this season.First of all Frederic Sarre(last year in Bourg-ex coach of NT of France/Sarre is a lover of hard defence).New players for Gravelines are Rickey Paulding(USA,last year in Asvel/he didn't made a good season),the Nigerian center Uche Nsonwu (from Hapoel Galil Elyon) and the French players Jeromme Schmitt (from Bourg/very good player),Paccelis Morlende,Steeve Essart,David Gautier and Stephen Brun.Rahshon Turner (USA,1st scorer and rebounder last year for Gravelines),Dainius Adomaitis and Thomas Dubiez are the only players from the last season.Bad news for Gravelines is that Turner (1st scorer and rebounder of the team) isn't going to play tonight due to an injury.

Toulon is a quite new team too.New USA players are:
Austin Nichols (1.98m/he played some games with Toulon last season with good stats).
Brian Brown (1.92m from Trier  Germany).
Glen Whisby (2.03m)
David Bailey (1.73m/Bailey played last season for Gravelines).
Derrick Obasohan (USA-NGR,1.99m)-Obasohan isn't going to play in tonight's game.
Nedic,Legname,Bouteille and Milling have stayed in the team from last season.

I expect that Gravelines will make a good season with Sarre as coach. For tonight's game i think that the absence of Turner is important for Gravelines while Toulon isn't the team to underestimate.I'm not going to bet on hp or ML but i think that the under bet (157.5 at Sportingbet) is a quite safe choice. As i wrote, Sarre is a lover of hard defence and after the loss of his leader (Turner) i believe that we will have a low score game.

My pick:Gravelines-Toulon under 157.5 @1.90 at Sportingbet with 8/10.

Gravelines-Toulon 88-66 (154) :D

Cholet-Nancy

Cholet has made a lot of transfers this season.Biggest loss for Cholet is Claude Marquis who went to Strasbourg. Also Steeve Essart and David Gautier left the team.New players for Cholet are:
Chris Garner (USA,1.78m from AEL Larissas  Greece).
Norman Richardson (USA,1.96m from Paris/great scorer).
J.K.Edwards (USA,2.03m from Le Havre).
Taj Gray (USA,2.06m).
Stephane Dondon (FRA,2.06m from Chalon).
Old players for Cholet are the veteran Jim Bilba (38 years old  ) and Olivier Bardet.

Nancy was the finalist of last year (lost in final from LeMans).
The USA's Green,Bailey and Boyette left the team while Linehan (from Strasbourg) and Banks (from Besancon) are the new USA additions for Nancy. Also Samnick Victor (leader of Paris last year) came to the team.Bad news for Nancy is that Victor isn't going to play tonight and the same will be happen with the back up of Julian Cyril, the USA Dan McClintock(2.12m).

Cholet is a big question for this season but i think that Nancy is weaker team than the previous season.Cholet's home is always tough and i believe that Nancy (especially with the absences of Victor and McClintock) isn't favorite here (as most bookies say) so

My pick:Cholet (+3) @1.90 at Sportingbet with 8/10.

Cholet-Nancy 60-86 http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/konfus/p020.gif http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/konfus/p020.gif http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/konfus/p020.gif
